The Luna and Her Child – Chapter 6

Soundproof

I am becoming anxious at the prospect of Alyssa crying continuously, prompting me to hasten to the childcare room in the packhouse. I open the door and, to my astonishment, observe Alyssa seated on the floor, manipulating a rattle toy while laughing and wiggling it. I exhale a breath of relief. Thank you, lunar deity! I approach her, and upon seeing me, she smiles more broadly and extends her arms.

My heart softens, and I lift her up. I embrace her tightly as Giselle updates me on Alyssa’s performance. She reportedly cried for two minutes shortly after my departure, but Giselle successfully diverted her attention with the small ball pit available. I am pleased with her performance. Alyssa is my entire universe, and I cannot endure the notion of her experiencing distress.

She restored my heart after it was utterly shattered by the loss of my parents.

I profoundly miss my parents; however, Alyssa has provided me with a renewed purpose, for which I am immensely grateful, along with the love we share. She was the most advantageous decision I have ever made. Being a single mother has presented challenges, yet it is ultimately rewarding. Whenever I gaze into those large blue eyes, I am assured that we are precisely where we ought to be.

Six months Later

Tomorrow marks Alyssa’s inaugural birthday celebration. I am uncertain of her precise birth date; however, I have chosen to use the date when I discovered her. I am extremely enthusiastic. I invited several of Alyssa’s young acquaintances, along with my friends and family.

I spent months apprehensive about her humanity, but at nine months old, we discerned her wolf essence. I exerted considerable pressure on myself to train and gain strength, ultimately to no avail. I have come to the realisation that I not only enjoy fighting and training, but I am also quite proficient at it.

Alyssa, now one year old, is a cheerful toddler. She articulates approximately twelve words, one of which is Mama, and it warms my heart each time I hear her utter it.

This evening, Norah visited, and we remained awake late discussing and preparing baked potato casserole, coleslaw, diced fruit, and I baked strawberry cupcakes. We conclude the evening shortly after midnight, and I am exceedingly satisfied with my observations. The balloon arch at the main entrance is remarkable. It is pink, purple, white, and gold.

Unicorn balloons and delineations are ubiquitous. I understand that Alyssa will not recall her first birthday; however, I wish to commemorate the delightful individual she is. Upon completion, Gavin visited to collect Norah. Gavin bears a striking resemblance to his father, Alpha Eric. He exceeds 6 feet in height, possesses a muscular physique, and is an attractive individual. He resembles his father significantly; he is quite imposing yet possesses a profound kindness and a deep affection for his partner.

Like all Alphas, he exhibits strong possessiveness and protectiveness towards his mate. He prohibits her from traversing the three-minute distance to the packhouse alone at night, despite the pack lands being secured. They are both infatuated with one another, and they constitute an excellent couple.

The packhouse contains sleeping accommodations for numerous solitary wolves or young couples. Several hundred residences are located on the pack lands as well. I reside in a three-bedroom house where I was raised with my parents and brother.

The Lunar Howl Moon resembles an endearing suburban area. All the charming houses are present, and adjacent to them is the packhouse, resembling a mansion.

It is substantial. It comprises three stories. The primary level features an expansive cafeteria, a spacious common room, six restrooms, a childcare facility, and Alpha’s office. The basement comprises exclusively bedrooms and bathrooms, the second level contains additional bedrooms and bathrooms, while the third level is designated as the Alpha’s floor. A spacious residence for the Alpha and his family. Norah and Gavin reside in the Alpha suite with Gavin’s family; however, Norah assured me that the rooms are highly soundproof. She is eager for the day Gavin ascends to Alpha and his family relocates.

“I appreciate all of your assistance,” I express to Norah.

She is a proud aunt. Although she is not my biological sister, she is akin to family; therefore, I regard her and Gavin as Alyssa’s aunt and uncle. Alyssa has undoubtedly influenced all who have come to know her. She is charming and exudes happiness, captivating everyone’s affection.

“My father requested that I inform you to meet him in his office at 8 am tomorrow morning,” Gavin states.

What is his motivation for wanting to meet with me? “Indeed?” Should I feel apprehensive?“I inquire.” He observes the apprehension on my visage and promptly offers reassurance.

“He merely has a request to make of you; do not panic.”
