The Love She Never Saw Coming – Chapter 85

Trap

Thelma felt anxious as well. Just as she was about to ask Sam Noah what to do, she turned around and found that Sam Noah was nowhere to be seen. She looked around and saw him swimming towards the child.

Her heart immediately tightened. Amidst the rising and falling waves, Sam Noah’s figure appeared and disappeared. She saw him reach the child and then hold him as he swam back, but it was too far. Their figures were sometimes submerged by the waves, and every time he disappeared, Thelma felt as if her heart was being gripped tightly. Each time he reappeared, she would breathe a sigh of relief. Fortunately, he eventually brought the child safely to shore, but the child was unconscious.

Sam Noah asked the people around, “Who knows first aid?”

There weren’t many people around, and they exchanged glances. The child’s mother had already been crying uncontrollably, pleading with everyone, “Please, please save my child!”

At that moment, someone pushed through the crowd and said to the child’s mother, “Let me help; I’m a doctor.”

The man knelt on the ground, skillfully starting first aid, then performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Before long, the child coughed up some water and weakly called out, “Mommy.”

The boy’s mother sighed in relief, running over to embrace him while not forgetting to thank Sam Noah and the doctor who saved her child.

Fearing there might be aftereffects, the child’s mother took him to a nearby hospital. The others dispersed, leaving only Sam Noah, Thelma, and the doctor who had just saved the child.

The doctor wore glasses, and his tightly furrowed brows made him appear even more serious. He glanced at Sam Noah and Thelma, seemingly wanting to say something but ultimately said nothing.

Thelma hadn’t expected to run into Eric here, nor did she know if Sam Noah was aware of her past with Eric. Forget it; it was better to pretend not to know each other; it was for everyone’s good. Just as Thelma was about to leave with Sam Noah, she saw an old man with white hair being supported by someone, and before they got close, he smiled and said, “Noah, you’re here?”

Thelma looked over and immediately recognized the person supporting the old man; it was Norah. She instinctively frowned; it was indeed Norah.

What a coincidence; she could run into Norah even in Ashbourne Island.

Sam Noah smiled at the old man and greeted, “It’s been a long time, Uncle Austin. How have you been?”

The old man replied, “Just an old bone; there’s no such thing as good or bad.”

Sam Noah then introduced Thelma, “This is Uncle Austin, Norah’s uncle; we also call him uncle.”

“Hello, Uncle.”

Uncle Austin was quite amiable, quickly saying, “Good, good, good. I haven’t seen Thelma in a long time.” He pulled Eric to his side and introduced them, “This is my private doctor, Eric. Don’t be fooled by his young age; he’s quite well-known in the medical field.”

Upon hearing this, Thelma couldn’t help but feel puzzled. Wasn’t Eric working at a hospital in Brackenfield? How did he end up here as a private doctor?

However, she didn’t dwell on it and politely nodded at Eric as a greeting.

“What a rare encounter here. Noah, why don’t you bring Thelma to my room for dinner later?”

“If we have time, we’ll come by.”

After a brief chat with Uncle Austin, Sam Noah took Thelma away. Back in the room, Thelma asked him, “Are we really going to dinner?”

“Don’t you want to go?”

“I don’t mind.”

“Then let’s go.” He was looking for clean clothes as he spoke. “Sometimes, even if social obligations are annoying, we still have to deal with them.”

Thelma: “…”

Sam Noah took a shower and changed clothes, while Thelma was almost ready; fortunately, she had prepared a little dress.

Before long, someone knocked on the door, saying they were invited to dinner by Mr.Austin as per his instructions.

Unlike their room, which had a fresh design, Mr. Austin’s suite was luxurious and ostentatious, showcasing grandeur everywhere. Besides Uncle Austin, Norah and Eric were also present.

As Thelma sat down with Sam Noah, Uncle Austin said to Norah, “Hurry and pour wine for Noah and Thelma.”

To Thelma’s surprise, Norah stood up without a word and obediently poured red wine for both Sam Noah and Thelma. When pouring for Thelma, she even politely said, “Since it’s your first time here, please don’t mind if I don’t entertain you well.”

Thelma was taken aback by Norah’s behavior. Based on their past interactions, she would never have treated her kindly. She wondered if she was being overly suspicious; she felt this dinner might turn out to be a trap.
