When Dennis arrived, Thelma and her family of three personally went to greet him at the door. Dennis got out of a military jeep, wearing a down jacket with a high-neck sweater underneath. Although his skin was dark, he had a baby face that still gave a cheerful impression even when he wasn’t smiling.
As soon as he got out of the car, he stood at attention and saluted Sam Noah. Although he was in casual clothes, the salute gave off a sense of military authority.
After saluting, Dennis cheerfully greeted Thelma, “Sister-in-law, hello.”
This shouldn’t be her first time meeting Sam Noah’s comrade, so he probably recognized her. Of course, Thelma had lost her memory and had no recollection.
“Hello, it’s cold outside; come in quickly.” Thelma welcomed him.
Tyler was very fond of his Uncle Dennis and was happier than anyone else knowing Uncle Dennis was coming. Uncle Dennis also liked his nephew very much. He walked over, picked up Tyler, and ruffled his hair, saying, “You’ve grown taller in a year.”
Big brother Tyler smiled and rubbed Dennis’s face, saying, “Uncle Dennis, don’t get any darker; if you get any darker, you won’t be able to find a girlfriend.”
Dennis felt like he had been shot in the knee. He pretended to be displeased and said, “What do you know, little kid? This is called a healthy tan; many girls like it.”
As they chatted, the few of them entered the house.
The meal was already prepared. Dennis helped to place the candles on the cake and then handed out the gifts for the little one. Thelma’s gift was a large tree model she had made by hand, while Dennis gave a toy racing car, and Mr. Sam gifted a book, which made Thelma wonder if the little one could even understand it. She couldn’t help but complain in her heart that Mr. Sam really didn’t know how to give gifts; why give such a book to such a small child?
“Tyler, make a wish and blow out the candles,” Dennis urged.
The little one clasped his hands in front of his chest, looking earnest as he silently made a wish, then blew out the candles. Dennis didn’t forget to tease him, “What did you wish for? Can you tell Uncle?”
The little one hesitated for a moment but ultimately shook his head, saying, “If I say it, it won’t come true.”
Dennis said, “How can that be? Wishes should be said out loud to come true.”
The little one was a bit conflicted and turned to look at Thelma. Seeing that he wanted to say it, Thelma said, “If Tyler wants to say it, then go ahead.”
Tyler was very happy, quickly nodding, and then loudly declared, “I want a little sister!”
Thelma: “…”
Thelma was almost petrified by his wish. She felt her face turn beet red and instinctively looked at Sam Noah, but he remained extremely calm, merely ruffling the little one’s hair. It seemed he sensed her gaze; he glanced over at her and smiled, a smile that was… very meaningful.
What the heck!
“That’s a good wish. Don’t worry; your parents heard it. I believe they’ll give you a little sister soon.”
Dennis didn’t forget to add fuel to the fire, making Thelma feel even hotter.
“Don’t rush for a little sister; you should take care of yourself first. You’re already thirty and still don’t have a partner. I heard that your old man was so angry about this that he had a stroke recently.”
Dennis, who had been enjoying the moment, suddenly became displeased upon hearing this. Truly, why bring up such a sore topic? Both father and son were skilled at hitting where it hurt.
Dennis took a fierce bite of the cake, his big eyes rolling around as he suddenly thought of something and said to Thelma, “Sister-in-law, what kind of person do you think Noah is?”
Thelma, lost in thought, was momentarily stunned by the mention of Sam Noah.
As soon as Sam Noah’s name came up, she felt her face start to flush again. However, fearing that her shyness would make her a subject of ridicule, she feigned calmness and said, “Mr. Sam is a very nice and gentle person.”
She wasn’t wrong; the Sam Noah she knew was indeed that kind of person.
Dennis’s mouth dropped open in shock, clearly taken aback. “I can’t believe my ears! Sister-in-law, you actually think Noah is a gentle person? You have no idea how twisted he is.”
“Ah?” The word “twisted” seemed completely unrelated to Sam Noah. However, Thelma became curious. “What do you mean twisted?”
