After Sam Noah spoke, Tyler added, “Grandma, I’m feeling much better. I wanted to eat the rabbit leg; it has nothing to do with Mom.”
Seeing that both father and son were defending Thelma, Ruth became even angrier but ultimately didn’t say anything more.
Before long, the doctor was brought in. He carefully examined Tyler’s symptoms and looked at the vomit a few times, then asked, “I just heard you say Tyler ate a rabbit leg outside. Actually, children’s bodies are not as fragile as we think. Occasionally eating outside food isn’t too serious. His condition is clearly food poisoning. I noticed he also ate oranges, right?”
Ruth was even more shocked to hear that Tyler had food poisoning. She quickly said, “The orchard sent over this year’s fruits, including oranges. Tyler likes oranges, so I peeled one for him when he got back.”
The doctor replied, “That’s right. Oranges and rabbit meat are incompatible and can cause gastrointestinal dysfunction. Fortunately, he didn’t eat much, so it’s not very serious. Here’s what we’ll do: I’ll prescribe some medicine. If Tyler doesn’t improve by tomorrow, take him to the hospital. If he gets better, then there’s no problem.”
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this. After the doctor prescribed the medicine and left, Thelma hurriedly took care of Tyler, and she didn’t know if it was the effect of the medicine, but Tyler indeed felt much better.
Once the doctor left, Sam Noah said, “Since you know Tyler’s problem wasn’t caused by Thelma, shouldn’t you apologize to her for wronging her just now?”
This was directed at Ruth. Although Thelma had only been there for a day, she could tell that the relationship between Sam Noah and Ruth was not very good. They were clearly mother and son, yet their interactions were quite distant.
Ruth was momentarily at a loss for words, clearly displeased. After all, asking an elder to apologize to a younger person was quite embarrassing.
Seeing this, Thelma initially thought to let it go, but unexpectedly, Ruth still apologized to Thelma in the end.
“I’m sorry, I misunderstood you just now.”
Thelma: “…”
Thelma was clearly taken aback. It seemed Sam Noah was indeed quite capable, even managing to make his strong-willed mother yield.
Thelma hurriedly said, “It’s okay, we’re all doing this for Tyler’s sake.”
Thelma lay in bed with Tyler, planning to sleep with him tonight. If he felt unwell later, she could take care of him.
“Mom, I’m fine now. My stomach doesn’t hurt anymore,” Tyler said, looking up at her.
Thelma stroked his head. His complexion was still a bit pale, but he was afraid she would worry, so he said these comforting words. Sometimes, this child was so understanding that it made her heart ache.
Before long, Sam Noah also came in. He had taken off his coat and was now only wearing a shirt and trousers. The shirt was tucked into his pants, the fabric fitting closely, accentuating his broad shoulders and slim waist, with a full curve on his chest.
Thelma hurriedly averted her gaze. She felt she was truly bewitched; the more she looked, the more she thought Sam Noah was infuriatingly charming.
“Still not asleep?” Sam Noah asked.
Thelma didn’t dare to look at him. She pressed her forehead against the child’s forehead, letting him block half of her face. “Not yet.”
Unexpectedly, the little guy suddenly sat up and said, “I just remembered that Grandma didn’t finish the story she told me yesterday. I want to go sleep with Grandma; I want to hear her tell stories.”
“Don’t!” Thelma hurriedly grabbed him, but then she realized her actions were too frantic, so she pretended to be calm and said, “Listen to Grandma tomorrow. You sleep here tonight; Mommy wants to sleep with you.”
The little guy frowned and glanced at his dad, then nodded, “Okay.”
In reality, Thelma wanted the little boy beside her, but she was afraid that if she and Sam Noah were alone in a room, she would start to think wildly. She was even afraid she might do something outrageous, especially since the impulse she felt towards Sam Noah in the ancient city was too strong.
However, her frantic action of grabbing Tyler seemed to Sam Noah like she was deliberately guarding against him.
Could it be that she knew about him kissing her last night? Impossible; she had been sleeping soundly.
But thinking about her resistance to him, even if she had amnesia, it was still understandable that she would want to keep her distance from him. She didn’t want to be alone with him.
