The Love She Never Saw Coming – Chapter 37

Africa Style

Since she had already said she would treat him, it was just a matter of time, so Thelma said, “Alright, I’ll go change my clothes first.”

Thelma chose a white sleeveless dress, made of animal wool for winter, which draped nicely. For an outer coat, she picked a black wool coat; after all, black and white always matched well.

She casually pinned her long hair up with a hairpin, put on light makeup, and although it wasn’t heavy, it was more than enough for a meal out.

Looking at herself in the mirror, Thelma felt as if she was going on a date.

A date? Thelma quickly shook her head, thinking she was overthinking it, but she felt her lipstick wasn’t red enough and applied another layer.

When Thelma came downstairs, Noah was still sitting on the sofa looking at documents. He had crossed his legs elegantly, and his movements while flipping through the documents exuded a kind of laziness. Hearing her footsteps, he looked up, and when he saw her, his elegant demeanor seemed to freeze suddenly, his eyes revealing a hint of astonishment at her beauty. But this was fleeting; the next second, he smiled at her naturally, “Ready?”

Thelma nodded.

Thelma chose an African restaurant, which was quite famous in the city, known for its good food and frequented by many celebrities.

“Have you eaten here before?” Noah asked after they got out of the car.

“No, I’ve just heard about it.” After entering university, she rarely asked for money, and she couldn’t afford such high-end places.

“…”

Thelma suddenly remembered that necklace. According to the child, she had ordered one just because she saw  her favorite celebrity wearing it and liked Noah, but she ended up breaking it.

Thelma sighed, but speaking of Presley made her happy. She continued, “Presley is my favorite singer. She sings beautifully and is talented. She’s also a kind-hearted idol, always speaking up for the underprivileged, especially helping many women in vulnerable situations and fighting for women’s social status. I think that’s how an idol should be.”

She had once thought that after graduation, she would definitely join the company where her idol worked and work alongside her. For a long time, Presley had been the guiding direction in her life, but… life is unpredictable, and she ultimately had no connection to singing.

Thelma came back to her senses and found Noah smiling at her, his gaze softening with a hint of indulgence because of her smile.

Thelma was taken aback and immediately asked, “Did I talk too much?”

“Not at all; I enjoy listening to you talk about anything.”

“…”

He was still that powerful man, exuding an innate sense of authority and danger, but for some reason, at this moment, he seemed to be wrapped in a very soft layer, no longer the commanding figure but just her husband.

Husband… Thelma lowered her head, her face a bit hot.

“Mr. Sam.”

The sudden voice pulled Thelma back to reality. She looked ahead and saw two girls walking towards them. It seemed this place indeed often had celebrities visiting, and she had run into them right away.

Unfortunately, one of them she recognized.

At this moment, Thelma and Noah had already walked into a corridor, a traditional African -style corridor with carved windows depicting ancient African  women on both sides, and the floor was covered with soft tatami mats.

The corridor was narrow, and the four of them meeting there made it feel even more cramped.

The girl walking with Ava looked somewhat familiar; she should also be from the entertainment industry, but Thelma couldn’t recall her name. Just now, she had greeted Noah.

The girl smiled warmly, her tone carrying a hint of flattery. She glanced at Thelma, momentarily stunned, but she was perceptive enough not to inquire about Thelma’s identity.

A few months ago, Ava had encouraged her to compete by buying her a doll. At that time, she was still her best friend, and they would have definitely shared a big hug after being apart for a few months.

But now, there was no hug, no joy at seeing a friend; they just looked at each other, each with their own thoughts.

Ava seemed surprised to see her, then her gaze swept over to Noah. Thelma couldn’t tell what she was thinking, but she noticed her expression gradually becoming complex, as if in disbelief, and perhaps a bit uncomfortable.

However, this strange feeling quickly faded, and she immediately greeted Noah warmly, “Hello, Mr. Sam.”

Noah politely nodded, “Hello to you both.” The two stepped aside a bit, and Noah walked past them first.

Thelma snapped back to reality, acting as if she didn’t recognize Ava, following Noah as they brushed past the two. Beyond that, she couldn’t think of a more suitable way to handle the situation.

Once they reached the reserved private room and sat down, Thelma’s mindset shifted a bit, likely due to seeing Ava. Noah was a perceptive person, and after sitting down, he asked, “What’s wrong?”

Thinking of Ava, Thelma couldn’t help but smile self-deprecatingly, “The girl on the left just now is my stepsister.”
