The Love She Never Saw Coming – Chapter 26

Relationship

With nothing to do, Thelma remembered she had a workspace upstairs, so she decided to go take a look. The workspace was spacious, with a piano in the center, and in the corner, there was a drum set. On the wall hung instruments like a vertical flute.

There were many scattered drafts on the floor. She picked one up to look at; they were all messy music scores, probably ones she had written before. Thelma tried playing a bit; the main melody was quite nice, but the chords were a bit terrible, giving off a feeling of restlessness and resentment.

Since she had nothing to do, she decided to calm down and revise the chords.

The door to the workspace was left open; there were only her and the maid in the house, and the maid usually stayed downstairs, so she didn’t close the door. Naturally, she didn’t see Sam Noah, who had appeared at the door at some point.

Sam Noah couldn’t stay in the company; once he sat down, he wanted to go home. In the end, he simply didn’t go against himself, arranged his work simply, and returned home. After he came back, he passed by her workspace and saw her busy inside. However, this time she wasn’t making a loud noise with the instruments like a madwoman; instead, she was quietly sitting at the piano, writing and drawing on the scores.

Her brows were slightly furrowed, as if she was deep in thought. Her eyebrows were very fine, and when she furrowed them, they formed a beautiful shape. Her skin was very fair, glowing white. She looked completely focused, eyes closed, her fingertips gliding over the piano keys, beautiful music flowing from her fingertips. Her entire face was filled with a vibrant vitality, as if the blue sky outside had become brighter, and the air was filled with a sweet scent of spring.

Thelma became so engrossed that she lost track of time, and when she finally noticed her neck was a bit sore and turned to relax it, she saw the man standing at the door, staring blankly.

Thelma was startled to see him suddenly.

“You… why are you back?”

Sam Noah was silent for a moment before saying, “There wasn’t anything urgent at the company, so I came back. You keep busy; I won’t disturb you.”

After Sam Noah left, Thelma didn’t continue for long. When she went downstairs, she saw Sam Noah standing by the window in the living room, on the phone. On the coffee table in the living room was a box of meat floss pastries; she really liked these little snacks, especially the ones with cream filling.

They weren’t there before; did he buy them?

After finishing his call, he turned around and saw her staring at the meat floss pastries, and Sam Noah said to her, “I bought this for you.”

He really did buy it for her.

Since it was specifically bought for her, wouldn’t it be too rude not to eat it? Of course, she was also quite eager to have some.

She walked over, opened the packaging, took a piece, and gently bit into it. It was very sweet and soft, with rich and creamy filling. The sweet taste flowed into her stomach, truly satisfying.

Seeing her actually start eating, Sam Noah was momentarily taken aback.

He watched her sitting there, her fingers holding the little cake, nibbling away like a little squirrel, and soon her cheeks were puffed up.

He stood there watching her for quite a while without leaving. Thelma caught a glimpse of him, and her eating movements gradually became stiff.

Why wasn’t he leaving? Why was he staring at her like that? It was so awkward; it was hard to continue eating or to stop.

Finally, Thelma couldn’t stand his gaze any longer. She carefully offered him a piece of the meat floss pastry and tentatively asked, “Do you want to eat?”

Sam Noah: “…”

Sam Noah sat down across from her and smiled, “I’m not eating.”

If he wasn’t going to eat, why was he looking at her like that? It was strange.

“This is the first time you’re eating something I bought for you.”

She looked at him; he still had a smile on his face, but for some reason, she felt a sense of sadness and pity in his tone.

This is the first time you’re eating something I bought for you.

As if it were such a significant event that she was eating something he bought.

Thelma was completely taken aback.

Not just because of his tone.

Had their relationship deteriorated to this point? She wouldn’t even eat something he bought?

What kind of grievances did they have? Why was their relationship so bad?

At first, Thelma resolved to be the best mother she could be, determined to care for her child. But over time, something else changed. Her husband, with his striking good looks, wealth, and unwavering affection, proved impossible to resist. Before long, Thelma found herself drawn to him, wanting nothing more than to snuggle into his arms and stay there forever. Sam Noah had always believed love was beyond his reach.
