The Love She Never Saw Coming – Chapter 239

Hot

If he still remembered her, he wouldn’t have failed to recognize her, and he wouldn’t have spoken to her in this tone. She thought of the time she went to find him, his bewildered gaze.

He had forgotten her.

They didn’t leave, and neither did he. He seemed determined to force them to leave with his gaze.

Forget it, forget it. Since he had forgotten, there was no need to cling to it. Mira, you have your dignity, don’t you?

But she was still unwilling.

She actually dared to walk over, and Caro couldn’t stop her.

The night wind blew, lifting her long hair. Her clothes were thin, her light gauze skirt fluttering in the wind.  Amidst the fluttering white gauze, she was like a fairy descending from the wind.

He stood there dumbfounded, watching her approach, his body seeming stiff.

However, his brows furrowed even tighter, and his tone became even more severe, “Didn’t you hear me? Go back to your barracks!”

She finally reached him. She looked up at the stern man in front of her and suddenly laughed, a mocking laugh. “Tony Brown, don’t you remember me?”

His cold and dark eyes seemed to flicker slightly, but his appearance remained stern and imposing. “Get out of here!”

“Why are you doing this? If you don’t want me to find you, just say so. I also have self-respect. If you really don’t like me finding you, I won’t. Why pretend you don’t know me? You’re hurting me, you know?”

He suddenly fell silent. The stern expression on his face seemed to be suddenly shrouded in a thin mist, making it less clear. He didn’t say anything and turned to leave.

However, this unusual behavior told her everything. She guessed right; he was pretending not to know her.

“Tony Brown, you’re a liar!”

His footsteps paused. She couldn’t see his expression, so she didn’t know that he gritted his teeth, but he ultimately didn’t turn back and quickly left.

When Caro caught up, she saw Mira standing there dumbfounded, seemingly unaware of the strong wind.

Caro cautiously asked, “Mira, do you know that officer?”

Mira suddenly felt very tired. She shook her head and didn’t say a word.

Perhaps because of the cold wind on the training ground, Mira developed a high fever in the second half of the night. The high fever persisted until daytime.  At first, the military doctor came to see her, prescribed some medicine, and instructed Mira’s assistant to help her with physical cooling, but the fever didn’t subside by day, so the military doctor had no choice but to give her an IV drip to reduce the fever.

They were supposed to leave the next day after the performance, but Mira’s condition clearly meant she couldn’t leave. Others had their own things to do and left first, so Mira had to stay in the army temporarily until her fever subsided.

Before breakfast in the army, there was a training exercise. The soldiers were starving after the exercise and rushed to the cafeteria without even washing their faces.

Tony Brown was carrying a food tray and passed a table when he heard some new recruits talking.

“It seems her fever is quite serious, it started yesterday.”

“Sister Mira is so dedicated, she actually came here for a  performance.”

“She’s even more beautiful than on TV. I just hope she’s okay and gets better soon.”

Tony Brown paused. The new recruits quickly realized he was listening to them. They had already witnessed the captain’s power and heard of this “lion’s” reputation, so when they saw him stop, they immediately shut their mouths.

Tony Brown didn’t say anything and went to sit down to eat.

Caro went to the medical room to get medicine for Mira. As soon as she went out, she saw someone standing at the door. This person stood tall and straight not far away. Caro recognized him as the officer from last night by his characteristic eye patch.

Caro was immediately startled. She guessed he might know Mira, so she cautiously asked, “Are you here to see Mira?”

“Is she better?” he asked.

“A little better, but she’s asleep now.”

He nodded imperceptibly.

Caro tentatively asked, “Do you want to go in and see her?”

“No, don’t tell her I came.”

There was an irresistible authority in his calm voice. Caro subconsciously nodded; in front of this person, probably no one would dare to say no?

Tony Brown turned to leave. The medical room was in the opposite direction from where he was going. Caro went to the medical room to get medicine after he left, but Tony Brown stopped a few steps away.

She was asleep, so it wouldn’t be a problem for him to take a look at her, right?

Tony Brown entered her barrack. She was lying quietly on the bed.  Perhaps because of the high fever, her cheeks were flushed, looking weak and helpless. He remembered the little girl who had lost her parents and was weak, lonely, and dependent on him many years ago.

There was a washbasin under the bed; it seemed her assistant had just been helping her with physical cooling.

He sat down by the bed and took the cloth off her forehead. His hand accidentally touched her forehead, and he frowned. Why was it so hot?
