The young soldier spoke with pride. He probably didn’t know that he was also her idol, her hero, but… she thought of the little girl he was holding and the gentle woman. She looked away; he was no longer hers.
Although they were on the plateau, thankfully no one suffered from altitude sickness. In the evening, the performance officially began. Mira changed her clothes and went on stage with the old artist.
The audience was full of soldiers. Military life is hard, especially in border provinces, where they bear even more pressure than other soldiers. Such entertainment activities are rare, and when there is performance, the soldiers are very excited.
Mira looked at the cheering crowd below. She was used to such occasions, so she wasn’t nervous. She looked around; there were too many people, she couldn’t see everyone’s face clearly, but she knew he must be among them.
Singing for everyone, also singing for him.
Because it was the theme song of a patriotic television drama, the song was powerful and uplifting. The powerful parts were sung by the old artist in bel canto, while the uplifting parts were sung by her, with rock-style high notes. Her collaboration with the old artist was excellent, and her stage presence was strong, so after the song ended, there was prolonged applause.
After she left the stage, she returned to the barracks to rest. It was a six-person barrack, but there were only three women in their group, plus their assistants, so six people were just right.
Perhaps because they were in a new place, no one felt sleepy. The two older sisters were chatting. Mira couldn’t sleep, so she decided to go for a walk. Caro was worried and followed her.
The night in the military camp was quiet, with soldiers on guard everywhere. Looking up, one could see soldiers with guns standing on the watchtowers; looking down, one could see a soldier with a gun at regular intervals.
Even at night, the military camp gave a depressing and solemn feeling.
Mira passed a sentry post, and a soldier inside reminded her, “Miss Mira, don’t wander around at night.”
Caro quickly said, “We just couldn’t sleep, so we came out for a walk. Don’t worry, we’ll just walk around nearby.”
The soldier said, “Should I have someone follow you?”
Caro smiled, “No, no need.”
“You can only walk around nearby, don’t go far.”
Caro and Mira quickly nodded in agreement.
After walking for a while, Caro felt that the solemn atmosphere of the army was so depressing that she could hardly breathe, so she discussed with Mira, “Mira, shall we go back?”
“I can’t sleep. If you want to go back, go ahead.”
Caro had also been frightened by the reporters recently, and her boss had instructed her to stay close to Mira, so she didn’t say anything more and quietly followed behind her.
Unknowingly, they walked to the training ground they had passed earlier. Unexpectedly, there were still people training so late at night.
The lights on the training ground were off, but Mira immediately saw that familiar figure inside the camp.
They weren’t far from the training ground, and she could hear his strong voice, “The three of you, attack together.”
Three soldiers in camouflage uniforms stood around him. Hearing his words, the three of them roared and attacked him together. Seeing this, Mira’s heart also involuntarily lifted, but these three were clearly no match for him. His grappling skills were superb. Even with only one eye, his movements were still agile, and soon all three were knocked to the ground.
“Do you surrender?!”
His shirt was off, and he was sweating. Under the light, his sweat-soaked back shimmered.
His voice was strong and authoritative.
The three soldiers got up and said in unison, “We surrender.”
“Do you surrender? Louder!”
“Surrender!”
“Surrender!”
“Surrender!”
His expression remained stern throughout, and even though he had subdued the soldiers, there was no trace of pride on his face.
“Dismissed!”
The three soldiers saluted and left the field.
Soon, only he was left on the training ground. He seemed to sense something and suddenly turned his head to look over. Although they weren’t far apart, the light was too dim, and she couldn’t see his expression clearly. She only felt that he seemed to frown.
“This is a military camp, not a place for you to stroll around! Go back to your barracks!”
His tone was still authoritative, and the killing intent emanating from him was enough to intimidate enemies on the battlefield. Therefore, Mira and Caro, two ordinary people, were completely intimidated.
Caro was practically scared to death and subconsciously tugged at Mira’s clothes. Mira was also startled.
But at the same time, she was surprised. She knew he was imposing on the battlefield, but he was always gentle towards her. Even if she didn’t eat, he would patiently coax her.
