Samantha carefully studied his expression, and he really didn’t seem angry. She breathed a sigh of relief and couldn’t help but smile, saying, “I’m actually quite surprised.”
“Surprised about what? Surprised that I like you?”
Samantha shook her head. “Surprised that Leon would do something so childish.”
Leon: “…”
Leon turned away to hide the hint of shyness on his face. “I’m hungry; let’s eat.”
Only then did Samantha realize she hadn’t cooked yet. “I’ll go make dinner right now.”
“No need; let’s go out to eat.”
Samantha didn’t expect Leon to take her to a small restaurant near the school. This little restaurant had been open for many years; they had been there when they were in high school, and it was still running well during the summer vacation.
The restaurant was old and had a somewhat worn-out feel, but students loved to eat there. Every day, so many students came and went, and this little restaurant must have borne countless youthful memories.
After finishing their meal, the two planned to stroll around the school but unexpectedly ran into their former homeroom teacher in the teaching building.
“Teacher Joshua.” Samantha greeted him, “Do you still remember me, Teacher Joshua?”
Teacher Joshua, wearing reading glasses, pushed them down a bit and stared at Samantha for a long time before finally recognizing her. “Samantha?”
“Yes, it’s me. Teacher Joshua, your memory is really good; you still remember me.”
Teacher Joshua smiled and then glanced at the person beside her. He only took a casual look but frowned slightly. “Leon?”
Leon was probably the student who gave teachers the most headaches during school, and now Teacher Joshua instinctively frowned upon seeing him.
“That’s me, Teacher Joshua.”
Teacher Joshua looked them over. “You two…”
Leon held Samantha’s hand. “We got married.”
Teacher Joshua: “…”
Teacher Joshua was clearly taken aback, probably not expecting the most mischievous and the most obedient students in his class to end up together. But he quickly cleared his throat and said, “Well… congratulations to you both.”
After saying goodbye to Teacher Joshua, the two went up the stairs. Samantha said, “It seems Teacher Joshua was shocked. He probably didn’t expect us to be together.”
“What about you?”
“What about me?” Samantha couldn’t help but laugh. “I was actually quite surprised at first that we ended up together, but now I’ve gotten used to it.” Samantha thought of something and asked, “I’m curious, why did you choose to become a police officer?”
“To be impressive.”
“…”
Samantha originally thought that this rebellious boy was filled with a sense of justice, but it turned out he became a police officer just to be impressive?
Leon glanced at her and, seeing her incredulous expression, added, “You really believed that?”
Samantha: “…”
“I remember a girl once told me that if I didn’t turn my life around, I’d end up in prison, so I wanted her to know I wouldn’t go to prison; I would become the one who puts bad people in prison.”
Samantha: “…”
So he became a police officer because of her? She recalled the things she had said to him back then, and even after so many years, she still felt guilty.
At that moment, they had already reached the door of Class 302. Leon pushed the door open, and inside, the desks and chairs were neatly arranged. The classroom was very quiet, with no one inside.
As soon as Samantha stepped into the classroom, she thought back to her school days. The pressure in senior year was immense, but everyone sought joy amidst the stress. As long as the teacher wasn’t there, the classroom was always lively.
Samantha walked to her old seat and sat down. She turned to look for Leon, only to find him sitting diagonally across from her, resting his face on his arms, his gaze directed right at her.
He had changed out of his police uniform and was now wearing a t-shirt and shorts, with a pair of white sneakers on his feet. Aside from his noticeably more muscular physique, he looked just like a high school student in this outfit.
As evening approached, the sunset was right above him, and the orange sunlight streamed through the window, casting a glow in front of him. His gaze pierced through the halo and looked at her, filtered as if softened; the once aloof boy now looked so gentle.
For a moment, she was mesmerized.
Leon seemed to be sitting in his old spot, but she had never realized that as long as he leaned down, his gaze would fall right on her, and he had always been watching her from the most convenient position.
Samantha withdrew her gaze and said to him, “Let’s go.”
As they came down from the teaching building, they passed by the playground and saw a few boys playing basketball. Leon seemed to think of something and said to her, “Did you ever watch me play basketball?”
Samantha replied, “I never specifically watched, but sometimes I would see it by chance.”
“Then you should watch me once and cheer for me.”
