She caught a glimpse of it out of the corner of her eye but didn’t move her hand away.
The crisp sound of him biting into the apple filled the room, and perhaps her heartbeat was quickening as well.
His fingers inched closer and closer, and she hurriedly closed her eyes.
However, just before his hand could touch her fingers, the door to the hospital room was suddenly pushed open.
She was almost startled into sitting up straight, her face instantly turning bright red. Leon, however, remained calm, lying on the bed and tossing the apple core into the trash can, which was a bit far away, but he managed to throw it in perfectly.
She remembered how he loved playing basketball, wearing a jersey, standing under the hoop, jumping nimbly, and throwing the ball with one hand, the basketball arcing beautifully and landing perfectly in the hoop.
And then many girls cheered and screamed for him.
In came a couple, Leon’s parents. As soon as Leon’s mother saw Samantha, her eyes lit up, “You must be Samantha, right?”
“Hello, Uncle and Aunt.”
She had a good friend who liked Leon, and during a parent-teacher meeting, she had pointed out Leon’s parents to her, so she recognized them. However, her relationship with Leon wasn’t good, and she had never greeted his parents. She didn’t know why Leon’s mother recognized her at a glance.
“Good, good, good.” Leon’s mother approached her, shook her hand warmly, and asked, “Have you eaten yet?”
Faced with her enthusiasm, Samantha felt a bit uncomfortable, “I’ve eaten, but how did Aunt recognize me?”
Wu’s mother said, “How could I not recognize you? Leon has quite a few of your photos tucked in his notebook.”
Samantha: “……”
Leon coldly said, “What’s so worth mentioning about snooping into someone else’s privacy?”
Leon’s mother ignored him. She seemed to really like Samantha, looking her up and down, smiling, “If you haven’t eaten, why don’t you come to my house to eat with Leon later?”
Samantha awkwardly said, “No… no need.”
While Samantha was chatting with Leon’s mother, Leon’s father walked over to the bed, humming a little tune, and casually tapped Leon’s thigh. Leon winced in pain, but Leon’s father grinned and said, “Oh, still not better?”
Samantha was dumbfounded. She never expected that Leon, a cold and gloomy man, would have such a silly father.
Seeing this, Leon’s mother scolded with a stern face, “You old fool, our son just got injured.”
“I was just checking to see if he’s healed,” Leon’s father said nonchalantly, humming his tune as he sat down beside them.
“I have something to do, so I’m leaving first.”
With Leon’s parents there, she felt no need to stay any longer, but it was quite awkward.
Leon’s mother, seeing her about to leave, hurriedly said, “Aren’t you going to eat at my house? Should I have Leon see you off?”
“No need, Leon is injured; let him rest well.”
“That’s true!” Leon’s mother said, then shot Leon a glare, “What are you getting injured for?”
Samantha: “……”
Samantha found it strange. Why was Leon, who had such a cold demeanor, surrounded by such goofy parents? However, even though the parents and son had completely different personalities, it was clear that they had a good relationship. She felt a bit envious of Leon, having grown up in such a harmonious and loving environment.

When Thelma returned home with Tyler, she saw Susan waiting at the door.
Susan looked much haggard. Her skin was already sensitive at her age, and if she didn’t take care of it properly, she would immediately show signs of aging.
Thelma drove back herself, and as soon as Susan saw her car, she rushed over.
Thelma rolled down the window, and Susan hurriedly approached, her face pale and sorrowful, “Thelma, I know I shouldn’t disturb you, but I have no way out and can only shamelessly ask you for help. Ava really knows she was wrong. Thelma, can you let her off this time for the sake of your good relationship when you were young?”
As she finished speaking, her eyes turned red, her face showing a kind of anxious helplessness and pain, looking both pitiful and desperate.
However, Thelma felt no sympathy for her. She merely looked at her expressionlessly and said, “You should be grateful that there are children with me today; otherwise, I wouldn’t be so polite to you.”
“……”
“Before I call security, you better get lost. If you dare to appear in front of me again, do you believe I will let Ava rot in jail?”
“Thelma…”
“If you say one more word, I’ll make her sit in jail for an extra ten years.”
Susan was so frightened that she immediately closed her mouth obediently. Thelma rolled up the window and stepped on the gas, driving into the compound.
Ava had not yet been formally sent to prison, so she was still in the detention center, where the visiting room was small.
Ava was brought out, and after a few detention center police officers stood aside, she asked, “How is it? Did you ask Thelma? Is she willing to help?”
