Without waiting for Samantha to respond, Thelma said, “I’ll go chase him away.”
She followed the waiter to the dining area, where the waiter led her into a private room. Inside sat a man, but it wasn’t Eric.
He was drinking tea, his long fingers holding the teacup. When he saw her enter, he nodded at her with a gentle smile, “Hello, Thelma.”
“Why are you here?”
At this moment, Samantha also followed in. She looked at the man in the private room a few times and realized she didn’t recognize him. Then she asked Thelma, “Who is this gentleman?”
Sam Noah stood up and adjusted his clothes. He walked over to Samantha and bowed politely, saying, “Hello, Miss Samantha. My name is Sam Noah, and I am also the father of the child in Miss Thelma’s belly.”
Samantha: “…”
Samantha was stunned. She looked Sam Noah up and down and then turned to Thelma, leaning in to whisper, “What’s going on? Didn’t you say he was some old man?”
Thelma said bluntly, “What are you doing here? Didn’t I tell you not to show up again? Also… how did you know…?” At this point, she became inexplicably irritated. “How did you know I was pregnant?”
“I know what I want to know.” He smiled lightly. “I didn’t intend to disturb Miss Thelma’s life, but since I know Miss Thelma is pregnant with my child, I must step up and take responsibility.”
Responsibility? Thelma frowned. “Who asked you to take responsibility?”
“I willingly take responsibility.” He answered as if it were a matter of course.
Thelma was momentarily at a loss for words.
At this moment, Samantha had come back to her senses. Before this, both she and Thelma had felt disgusted by this man, especially since her sister had been in such a situation with him. As an older sister, she naturally felt more heartache for her sister.
But considering he was also a victim, she felt there was no need to hold him accountable. However, she didn’t expect this man to be as decent as he appeared, and he was so polite. His attire and demeanor suggested he was someone of status. As the saying goes, one shouldn’t strike a smiling face; he had been courteous throughout, and Samantha couldn’t bring herself to be angry with him.
Thus, she smiled and asked, “Mr. Sam, so what brings you here this time…”
Sam Noah quickly said, “I came to discuss the matter of marrying Miss Thelma.”
Upon hearing this, Thelma exploded with anger, shouting, “What nonsense are you talking about? Who said anything about marrying you?”
Samantha, however, nudged her, “Calm down; let Mr. Sam finish speaking.”
Thelma was displeased. Why was her sister treating this person so nicely?
Sam Noah continued, “I also apologize for what happened that night. I had planned not to appear again to cause Miss Thelma any trouble, but I happened to hear that Miss Thelma was pregnant, and the child was most likely mine. Therefore, as the child’s father, I must take responsibility. I want to marry Miss Thelma so that after the child is born, we can resolve the issue of the child’s household registration. Otherwise, it would be inconvenient for a single woman to raise a child. Of course, if after giving birth, Miss Thelma doesn’t want to be with me, I will give her a large sum of money to ensure she has no worries for the rest of her life. If Miss Thelma is willing to continue being with me, that would be even better. I will be a good husband and take care of her for a lifetime.”
His attitude was sincere, and he covered all bases. Based on Samantha’s years of experience running a restaurant and dealing with different people, she could tell that this young man was not just smooth-talking.
She thought this young man was quite decent; Thelma wouldn’t be at a loss if she followed him. Moreover, the issue of the child’s household registration was indeed a problem, especially since both she and Thelma were unmarried, making it difficult to register the child. However, everything still depended on Thelma’s wishes.
In fact, Thelma was also moved by what was said. It wasn’t that she particularly cherished this man; mainly, she didn’t want this child, and she didn’t want this child to become a burden for her sister. Since he wanted it, she might as well give birth to it for him. When the time came, they could get a divorce, and she wouldn’t need him to guarantee her a life of comfort or anything; as long as they could live their lives without interacting, that would be fine.
