At the dinner table, Sam Noah and Ruth didn’t say much; their expressions were not good, reflecting the normal worry for a family member in a coma, but nothing more.
It seemed they really didn’t suspect them. The siblings finally felt a sense of relief.
That night, Sam Noah couldn’t sleep. He took a bottle of red wine upstairs to drink. After a while, he heard footsteps behind him. He knew it was Norah, so he didn’t turn around.
Norah walked up and stood beside him, crossing her arms and sizing him up. He was wearing a black shirt and black trousers, the deep black blending into the night yet standing out independently from it. He had such a strong presence that nothing could overshadow his brilliance.
A gust of wind blew, bringing the chill of winter. He stood there in thin clothing, seemingly oblivious to the cold.
Norah shifted her gaze and smiled, “Your little wife is lying unconscious in the hospital, and you still have the mind to drink here. It seems you don’t care much about her…”
Sam Noah didn’t even glance at her, his gaze fixed ahead. The night blurred his expression, and combined with his strong aura, his demeanor appeared profound.
“It has nothing to do with you,” he said
He lifted the wine glass and took a small sip. His long fingers held the glass in a pleasing manner. After finishing the wine, he set the glass aside.
Although this man was cold and ruthless towards her, she had to admit he was truly charming, to the point that sometimes his aloofness became a form of allure.
Moreover, Norah was well aware that his indifference towards her was merely because of her father. He treated her this way to take revenge on her father, or perhaps his cruelty towards her was just a way to soothe his own heart.
She felt he didn’t genuinely want to treat her this way.
So sometimes, when he deliberately treated her coldly, even though it made her uncomfortable, she had to go against the current. The more he wanted to be cold to her, the more she wanted to oppose him.
At this moment, looking at his expression that seemed to say “keep your distance,” she was unfazed and said, “Well, after all, she’s just a woman kept like a pet by your side, merely soothing your loneliness. Even if she really died, you wouldn’t be too heartbroken.” She leaned in closer, smiling brightly, “I know you best, Sam Noah. The only person you truly love is yourself.”
Sam Noah had originally placed the wine glass on the railing to his right. Norah happened to be standing right beside him. At that moment, she suddenly leaned in closer, and he frowned, shifting the glass slightly to the left.
Seeing this, Norah sneered and, taking advantage of his unpreparedness, grabbed the wine glass. Sam Noah frowned, his expression turning cold. “If you want to drink, go pour your own. Don’t dirty my glass.”
The word “dirty” clearly pricked Norah. She tilted her chin at him and downed the wine in one go, holding the glass upside down, leisurely saying, “What’s wrong with me drinking yours? Why be so stingy? It’s just a glass of wine.”
Sam Noah’s expression darkened further. “It seems you don’t want to go home tonight. You know I’m not in a good mood right now.”
Looking at Sam Noah’s expression, Norah felt a bit uneasy. Over the years, she had both feared and loved him. As long as she didn’t touch his bottom line, she could freely test the waters outside of it.
She also knew that if she truly provoked him, she would only suffer the consequences.
Seeing that things were getting out of hand, Norah took a step back and shrugged at him, saying, “This is really boring. I tease you a bit, and you take it so seriously. I’ll leave if that’s the case.”
Sam Noah didn’t respond but suddenly glanced at his watch. Then he smiled, a light smile that carried a hint of eeriness, sending chills down one’s spine.
“It’s about time. Let’s go see your brother together.”
Norah was completely confused, not understanding why he suddenly brought this up.
After saying that, Sam Noah left, and Norah hurriedly followed, passing through the archway in the wall. He was heading to the place where the siblings lived, and Norah suddenly had a bad premonition.
The siblings lived in a two-story villa. As soon as they entered through the archway, they saw the villa’s front door wide open, with many people standing outside. Norah recognized these people; they were Sam Noah’s trusted aides, who accompanied him for protection when he traveled.
However, these people usually wouldn’t appear.
The bad premonition grew stronger as Norah followed Sam Noah inside. She saw her brother tied to a chair.
