At that moment, Eric even doubted whether he had come to the wrong place.
“Yesterday, the director told me there’s a position in Africa he wants to arrange for me. I heard that before the director looked for me, Mr. Sam had visited him. I want to know if this is Mr. Sam’s intention?”
Sam Noah replied, “Director Carl is an old acquaintance of mine. I happened to visit the hospital yesterday for some matters and stopped by to see him. As for the job transfer, I, as an outsider, cannot interfere. Moreover, I have no grievances with Mr. Eric. Why would I persuade Director Carl to transfer you to Africa? I think Mr. Eric may have misunderstood.”
He spoke calmly, with a slight frown that hinted at being offended.
Eric couldn’t help but ponder, could it be that he really misunderstood?
After a moment of silence, Eric tentatively said, “I wonder if Mr. Sam is still harboring feelings about my past relationship with Thelma.”
“Harboring feelings?” Sam Noah laughed, “Mr. Eric probably doesn’t know that I’m usually very busy. I wouldn’t waste time dwelling on meaningless past events. Moreover…” His gaze fell on Eric’s face, pausing for a moment before continuing, “I’m not that insecure.”
His calmness and nonchalance made Eric feel a bit self-conscious. Could it be that he was overthinking things?
“If Mr. Eric has nothing else, I’ll take my leave. I have a meeting to attend.”
His politeness and upbringing were evident, making even Eric feel a bit unreasonable.
“Sorry, Mr. Sam, for bothering you.”
Sam Noah nodded with a smile, indicating it was no trouble, and walked past him to the elevator.
Thelma had an early shift today. After work, she went directly to Sam Group. Having been there several times, she made her way to Sam Noah’s office with ease. The office was empty, and the secretary informed her that the president was still in a meeting. Thelma decided to wait for him in the office.
Feeling a bit bored, Thelma thought about finding a book to read. Sam Noah had many books on his shelf, but they were all deep and difficult to understand, not suitable for leisure reading. She searched his desk but found no magazines for entertainment, wondering how Mr. Sam passed the time when he was bored. But he was usually so busy that he probably didn’t have time to be bored.
As she thought about this, her gaze inadvertently swept over a few photos piled in the corner of the desk. Thelma caught sight of the people in the photos, frowned, and picked one up. The people in the photo were indeed her and Eric.
This must have been taken when they were in the village. Who took this photo? Moreover, it was deliberately taken at an angle that made her and Eric look quite ambiguous.
Just then, someone pushed the door open. She looked up to see Sam Noah. She waved the photo in her hand at him and asked, “What’s going on with this photo?”
Sam Noah glanced at it, his expression unchanged. He walked over, standing a bit close to her, and said, ” Ava gave it to me.”
” Ava?” Thelma frowned, “What did she give you these photos for?”
Sam Noah remained silent, looking at her with a half-smile. Thelma felt uncomfortable under his gaze and said unhappily, “Why are you looking at me like that? Ava must have told you a bunch of nonsense when she gave you these photos, right? Do you really believe her nonsense?”
“I believe you,” he said.
“Then why are you looking at me like that?”
But he didn’t trust others.
Thelma felt the need to explain, “It’s nothing much. We just ran into each other suddenly, and he asked me how I was doing. Then I was in a hurry to leave, and he pulled me back.”
He didn’t say anything, still staring at her.
Thelma: “?????”
That look… did he want her to comfort him? Fine, fine, she would comfort him.
Thelma stepped forward, wrapping her arms around his neck, and said, “Alright, alright, it’s not a big deal. If you keep looking like this, I might misunderstand that you’re jealous.”
“You’re not misunderstanding; I am jealous.”
“……”
She didn’t expect him to respond so straightforwardly, and so naturally. But hearing such a statement from someone as mature and composed as Sam Noah inevitably left her feeling incredulous.
“It’s all in the past.”
“In the past, but I still want to be jealous.”
“……”
Thelma actually felt he was being a bit willful. This kind of willfulness was so inconsistent with his character that she found it quite fascinating.
However, his jealousy proved that he cared about her. Thelma coaxed him again, “Back then, I was just not discerning and ended up with someone like him, which is why I got cheated on. How could he compare to you? The person I love the most is you.” She took his hand and held it, “I really love you, Noah. No one can compare to you. Please don’t be jealous, okay?”
