Having been Chris’s wife for many years, Susan had enjoyed a bit of status due to his wealth. She was often pampered, but now she found herself humiliated, her dignity trampled underfoot. Yet she could only endure this grievance, knowing the other party was formidable; even Chris dared not oppose him.
Susan was not foolish; she had her own insights.
After Sam Noah finished speaking, his gaze turned to Ava. Although Ava was shaken to the core by the news, and her heart was filled with resentment, the fact remained that Thelma was indeed Sam Noah’s wife, and he was protecting her. No matter how unwilling she was, she had to acknowledge this reality.
She was very perceptive and, without waiting for Sam Noah to speak, said, “I apologize, Mr. Sam. I made a mistake. I had good intentions and wanted to invite Mrs. Sam to give you a surprise.”
After saying this, she even bowed to Sam Noah, her face sincere as she added, “I’m really sorry for causing you trouble, Mr. Sam.”
Thelma couldn’t help but admire her in her heart. Ava was quite ruthless with herself, taking the initiative. This way, Sam Noah would find it difficult to make things hard for her.
“The person you should apologize to is my wife.”
Ava looked up at Thelma but hesitated for a moment, her expression complex.
“What? Don’t you feel very sorry?” Sam Noah’s tone sharpened a few degrees.
Ava gritted her teeth, forcing a smile on her face. “I’m sorry, Mrs. Sam. I was blind and hope you can overlook my faults and not hold it against me.”
“Is this how you apologize?” Sam Noah was clearly dissatisfied.
Ava’s smile was about to freeze on her face. She wasn’t stupid; she knew Sam Noah was deliberately making things difficult for her. However, she didn’t dare say a word, taking a deep breath and bowing to Thelma, “I’m sorry, Mrs. Sam. I was wrong.”
She was as respectful as could be, showing utmost sincerity.
It seemed Sam Noah’s intimidation was indeed quite effective; Ava, who had just been so confident, suddenly became so subservient.
At that moment, Jonathan Foxcroft and Presley suddenly appeared. Jonathan Foxcroft stepped forward to shake hands with Sam Noah, saying, “Mr. Sam, I apologize. It’s unfortunate that such a thing happened during your visit.”
Sam Noah also gave him a bit of face, “Since Mr. Jonathan is here, you can handle the matter regarding your artist as you see fit.”
The couple naturally knew the background of the situation, but since it was a family matter, they had refrained from getting involved. It was only when they realized that one of their own artists had made a mistake that they had to step in to resolve it.
Sam Noah’s words were meant to prompt them to provide a satisfactory answer.
Jonathan Foxcroft exchanged glances with Presley, who understood that a mere dry apology would not satisfy Sam Noah. Presley felt exasperated; Ava had recently received a contract for the PrimeVest perfume endorsement and had been a bit too full of herself, offending the wrong person—especially since Sam Noah had just invested a sum into MK.
Presley could only suppress her inner irritation and smiled at Sam Noah and Thelma, “Mr. Sam, Mrs. Sam, I’m very sorry for the trouble caused to both of you. Ava hasn’t had much going on lately; she mostly just sleeps. Perhaps she has been sleeping too much and has gotten a bit muddled in the head, which is why she made such a foolish mistake. I’ll take her to the hospital later to see a doctor and get some medication. Mr. Sam, Mrs. Sam, please consider her a patient and don’t hold it against her.”
Presley’s words were quite harsh, not only subtly mocking Ava for not being popular but also implying that she had become foolish from too much sleep. This was even more excessive than Ava’s earlier insinuation that Thelma was overly sentimental.
Many people around stifled their laughter, and Thelma couldn’t help but chuckle, “Since Miss Presley has said so, there’s really no need for us to argue with someone who has a problem with their head.”
Presley breathed a sigh of relief and quickly said, “Mrs. Sam is indeed magnanimous. There’s a saying that goes, ‘What kind of pattern determines what kind of insight,’ and it truly holds.”
With one sentence, she not only praised Thelma but also jabbed at Chris, Susan, and Ava, implying that they lacked both pattern and insight.
Thelma couldn’t help but marvel; no wonder she was the representative of the victimized women protesting against the judge from afar—she was indeed formidable.
