Another commotion erupted at the Duke of Bedford’s residence. Even the household members, who had become numb to various scandals and were rarely surprised, were thrown into chaos by this significant disturbance.
The incident began when Ariella returned, covered in dust, unlike when she had left.
The startled servants soon witnessed the scene of Bedford’s knights being dragged in, bound.
The servants began to speculate various theories about what they had witnessed. After about thirty minutes had passed, someone knocked on the front door, and when it was opened, officers suddenly stormed into the mansion.
“What is the meaning of this? To come to the duke’s residence without any notice!”
The young butlers hurriedly blocked the officers’ path. However, what they needed to block was not their feet, but their mouths.
“We are here to find the young master of this house. We need to conduct an investigation regarding the charge of incitement to murder, so please step aside.”
The mouths of the butlers and the other servants dropped open. Incitement to murder? That was a term that had nothing to do with the noble Bedford.
However, separate from that, the thought of ‘If it’s Young Master David…’ naturally arose in the servants’ minds. They had seen enough of his behavior until now.
The loyal butlers quickly regained their composure and blocked the officers again. No matter what the charges were, they could not allow the young master to meet them like this.
Thanks to their efforts, the officers eventually said they would return after properly seeking permission and left. This news quickly spread and soon reached the ears of the Duke of Bedford.
“David Bedford—!!”
As expected, the duke was furious.
“Bring that boy to me! Right now!”
The attendants hurriedly scattered to find David before the sparks could fly. However, he was nowhere to be seen, having slipped away at some point.
“Master! Young Master David! Where are you?”
“David! The master is urgently looking for you!”
While the servants anxiously called out David’s name, he was actually hiding in a place no one could have predicted.
The room where the daughters of the Bedford family had traditionally stayed. Once Ariella’s, but now Lizzy’s.
“Damn it, damn it! What should I do? What should I do!”
David was pacing around Lizzy’s bed, biting his thumbnail.
‘This is driving me crazy.’
Lizzy, trying hard to suppress her rising irritation, placed her hand on his arm.
“Calm down, David.”
“How can I calm down? The officers are here!”
Seeing David shout in frustration, Lizzy felt an indescribable sense of pity.
Indeed, she had told him to prepare thoroughly for failure, yet he treated her words as mere nonsense from a girl, and now he was acting like a fool.
However, as long as David still had some value to her, she could not show her feelings. If he spoke carelessly, she could also be in trouble, so it was time to soothe and comfort him.
“Calm down and listen to me. The charge of incitement to murder is just a claim; there’s really no substantial evidence, right? You didn’t actually order anyone to be killed, and even if those thugs make false statements, you don’t need to worry. You are the great heir of Bedford. Who would dare to take you away?”
“Is that… true?”
“Of course. Your father will be angry, but he will never let you be put on trial. Unlike me, who hasn’t earned any trust… you are a beloved young master.”
Thinking it over, he realized she was right. It wasn’t murder, just attempted murder. Without proper evidence or a victim, they couldn’t drag him to trial.
Simple-minded David felt relieved after hearing just a few words. Seeing his expression soften, Lizzy subtly leaned against his arm and continued speaking.
“So, about that… David. If your father questions you, please don’t mention my name. You will do that for me, right?”
“Uh, uh?”
As Lizzy’s soft skin touched him, David forgot the situation and stammered like a fool. His desire-filled gaze traced the valley that dipped in the center of her chest.
“As you know, my father doesn’t like me very much. He still sees Arrie as his real daughter… If my name comes up, he will be furious. He might even try to make Arrie a real princess again…”
With drooping eyebrows, Lizzy looked up at him with her large eyes, and she was incredibly beautiful. Her cute, youthful face contrasted with her voluptuous figure, perfectly matching David’s taste.
“An arrogant woman who thinks too highly of herself… I can’t let someone like that become a princess of Bedford.”
As she always did, Lizzy tried to use David’s insecurities to achieve her desired outcome. The visual stimulation was merely a supplementary role.
