“…What?”
“Isn’t that right? Even if Aaron is impotent. Why would she meet you? No matter how horny she is, she’d meet a man who’s better looking and cleaner than you. Why would she meet you, who’s ugly, stupid, cowardly, and a kid?”
Ariella knew that her brother’s bluff and excessive obsession with the name of Bedford came from low self-esteem.
That he was compensating for his own lack of intelligence, appearance, and status, unable to properly break away from his father, by being even more proud.
When she pointed out such a weakness sharply, David looked dazed, as if he had been hit hard on the back of the head.
Soon, his face flushed red.
“You…!”
“Oh my, did I hit the nail on the head too much? Think about it, David. Could it be that Lizzy is making excuses to postpone sleeping with you?”
It was another expression of being hit right on the mark. His inability to hide his emotions had been consistent since he was a child.
How was he going to lead the family if he was so obvious? Ariella clicked her tongue, predicting that the demise of Bedford was near, even if she didn’t interfere any further.
“Oh dear, is that so? You don’t actually think those excuses are real, do you? Lizzy doesn’t have even a grain of rice’s worth of intention to meet you. She’s just using you.”
“Don’t try to use cheap tricks! Do you think I don’t know you’re trying to drive a wedge between Lizzy and me?”
“Well, do you really think so? Even you, who’s so igLizzynt, know the truth. That Lizzy’s words are all excuses. So give up now. You were never meant to reach that tree in the first place. Do you understand, you idiot?”
The moment she finished speaking, Ariella noticed that David’s eyes had changed.
Eyes that had lost focus and were filled with nothing but anger. Those were the eyes of someone who had lost their reason.
‘Oops, did I provoke him too much?’
It seemed she’d crossed the line for a moment, having gotten too caught up in digging up his sore spots.
“Aaaaaaaagh!”
Sure enough, David soon let out a shriek and swung his fist wildly at her.
Ariella didn’t even blink, staring at the hand rapidly approaching her. Like father, like son when it comes to that violence, she thought.
Thwack!
And just before the tightly clenched fist reached her face, someone grabbed his arm.
Ariella’s steadfast guard knight stood before her as always, without the slightest hesitation. The sight of his hair fluttering in the wind was like looking at a golden wheat field under a clear sky.
“Step back.”
Adam commanded firmly.
Considering that he was a knight employed by Bedford, and David was the heir to that Bedford, it was a preposterous statement.
However, Adam did not hesitate to grab the wrist of the Bedford heir, whom he should have been serving, roughly.
His attitude was so confident that David stared blankly at his face for a few seconds, dumbfounded.
“How dare a mere knight…! Let go of me!”
He soon regained his senses and went berserk. David’s guard knight, Dante, also rushed over, trying to pull Adam away.
But despite their efforts, Adam remained steadfast.
“I will not let go.”
The large, rough palm strongly pressed against David’s skin. Feeling a stinging pain, David frowned and glared at him.
The green eyes that met his were intense and fierce. He had only thought of him as having a girlish face, and he never knew it could become so frightening. David was momentarily intimidated and flinched.
“No matter what, not this time.”
However, Adam only grabbed David’s arm tightly to restrain him, but could not properly attack. Apart from the firm restraint, he could not attack the Bedford heir, as he was a knight.
“This crazy bastard…!”
Realizing this, David was once again consumed by his empty pride and clenched his fist. Then, he began to lash out at Adam indiscriminately.
Thwack! Thump!
“Let go! I said let go!”
Despite the continuous punches, Adam did not budge. Even as David burst his lip and crushed his nose, he simply stood like a rock, blocking Ariella’s path.
“Sir Adam!”
When blood flowed from Adam’s face, Ariella pulled him back with all her might, trying to get him out of David’s range.
However, the problem was that Adam had not anticipated her actions, so he easily gave way, and as a result, the fist that had been flying towards Adam was now aimed at Ariella.
“Milady!”
Adam rushed forward, but there was not enough time to block it. While he widened his eyes in despair, Ariella, who had the fist right in front of her, was calm.
She was not afraid of David’s fist. When she lived in the orphanage, she had been beaten by people who were much bigger and more muscular than him. And without going that far back, she was getting quite used to the whippings that tore at her thighs these days.
