The Alpha’s Secret Mate – Chapter 81

Shook

Molly hesitated. Colton remarked casually, “But what?”

“However, I was dispatched on this expedition alongside Prince Jayce.” “If I do not return, she shall never be permitted to attain freedom.”

A combination of comprehension and newfound perplexity emerged on his visage. “Why would it be contingent upon your return?”

“They sought to ensure that I would not have absconded elsewhere…” precisely as I am contemplating undertaking at this moment. They are aware of our proximity and recognise that I would never abandon her to such a destiny.

Colton sighed and crossed one leg over the other. “Caring for others is not simple.” Our minds compel us to prioritise others over ourselves, necessitating selflessness.

“Precisely,” Molly stated. “For the past five years, my sole aspiration has been to attain freedom.” I retired to bed each night, imagining I was in a distant place where I would not face repercussions for dropping a plate or being reprimanded for cleaning someone else’s laundry. I would have the freedom to live as I desired. A significant portion of my time has been appropriated, yet I cannot permit Kylie to age there due to my actions. She is entitled to freedom as well.

Colton acquiesced with a hum. He pondered while scratching his jaw. “I could abduct her and transport her here.” “Then she could live freely with you.” He flashed her a grin, and Molly chuckled softly.

I doubt the palace would approve of you taking two of their servants. I would not desire a conflict to arise from this.

If you return home and are granted freedom, would you opt to reside in a place similar to this?Colton enquired softly.

Molly contemplated briefly, surveying the snow-laden surroundings and absorbing the sounds of laughter. “I am uncertain.” I do not believe I would desire to remain in one location at this time. I would prioritise travelling to explore the world before determining a permanent residence. It is possible that this may become my preferred location, prompting my return.

She was also apprehensive about the more sinister aspects of the rogues. While many appeared amiable, she had encountered the malevolence within this group and wished to avoid further interactions. She did not desire to reside in an environment where she felt compelled to constantly watch her back. The men at the tavern instilled a sense of dread within her. Were they as nefarious as those who had assaulted her?

“I commend your courage in desiring to return to the palace for your friend.” Numerous individuals would seize the initial opportunity to flee and never reflect on the consequences, regardless of whom it may harm. Your heart is too virtuous for such matters. “Your friend is fortunate to have you.” Colton gently nudged her shoulder. Molly responded with a faint, melancholic smile.

“You have enlightened me, Colton.” I have long harboured apprehension towards the north, but now I have experienced it firsthand. Others similar to me might discover their belonging here once they attain freedom as well.

“We would welcome anyone like you, Molly. Count on that.” Colton stood and held out his hand to help her up. Molly stood and smoothed out her sweater.

“We’ve lost sighting on where your prince is, but I’m sure he will show up sooner or later. He wasn’t very happy with my pack the last time he saw them.” Colton said as they walked.

“If he hasn’t forgotten about me, that is.”

“Oh, I don’t think he’s forgotten about you. As you recall, he was pretty desperate in his search for your wellbeing.”

Molly snorted and then blushed at her own sound. That wasn’t very proper for her to do, but Colton only laughed. Jayce must have felt guilty she was captured since he was the one that made her come on this journey. At times, she felt they had somewhat of a bond but other times she wasn’t sure.

Colton broke off from her to walk with Leah down another path. Molly tried to remember the one that led back to her room and got a bit turned around when she found herself lost in thought.

“Ay, you!” A deep, gruff voice called from behind her. Molly hesitated before she turned to see a tall man at the end of the road. “Get over here, I’m talking to you.”

Molly stood her ground and didn’t move an inch towards him. She glanced at her surroundings, but didn’t see another person near enough to see them. How had she strayed so far from the path? Would anyone even help her if they were near?

“Can’t you hear? I said to get over here!” He shouted, the sound made her flinch when it echoed around them.

Molly clenched her fists at her sides, fatigued by the incessant shouting and directives from others. “No.” Molly stated, “I am retiring to my room for the evening, good day,” before proceeding down the path. She immediately regretted turning her back on him upon hearing his footsteps crunching in the snow. He seized her arm, compelling her to turn and face him.

His breath reeked of alcohol and decay; she suppressed the recollections of the night she was assaulted and forcefully pushed him away. The action dislodged his hat from his bald head, which he angrily retrieved and repositioned, as if embarrassed by his hairlessness.

He seized her arm once more as she began to retreat and clutched her more firmly against his body. “What is your issue?” “I heard you enjoy obeying commands at the palace,” he hissed, as Molly pushed against his chest to distance herself from him.

“Release me, you brute!” You are causing me pain!Molly struck his hand that held her, and he laughed as though her actions were for his amusement. This infuriated her.

“Listen,” he seized her shoulders and shook her violently like a rag doll. “I do not trust you in this camp.” I recognise your capabilities exceed your assertions, and I will prevent them from providing you with information that could jeopardise our lives.

"Alpha Prince, stop this madness! Can’t you see all I want is to leave this place, to be free of these suffocating walls and your overbearing presence? Do you think that just because fate bound us as mates, it gives you the right to claim dominion over me and this palace? You’re mistaken—horribly mistaken. You may call yourself a Prince, but your crown means nothing here. This is my domain, and the only place you’ll ever remain is beneath me, forever shackled by your arrogance and blinded by your pride."
