The Alpha’s Secret Mate – Chapter 144

Despite

I informed them that we previously resided near the palace, and they were thrilled to divulge information regarding the prince. I am uncertain of their knowledge, but I suspect they will disclose additional information if I encourage them.

“Perhaps we should all visit the bar to ascertain what insights we might gain,” Beckham proposed. “Evidently, it is a weekly occurrence where individuals relax despite their work commitments on most days.”

Jayce directed his gaze towards Molly. “A pub?” Are you angry?

“Oh, please.” James is not particularly suited for a pub at this moment, is he?Beckham smirked. They vowed to utilise their names even indoors, yet it appeared to unsettle Jayce regardless. “It will be enjoyable.” You can assert to all the admirers that Isabelle is your partner and that they should not even glance at her. I am aware of your affection for that.

Molly selected a dessert resembling chocolate from the assortment of food and consumed it while they debated.

“Among all the destinations available, you wish for us to visit a pub frequented by perilous miscreants?”Jayce had to modulate his tone as his patience waned. He exhaled deeply and reclined. “Your proposals consistently fail.”

“Shall we consult Izzy?” She recognises a sound idea upon hearing it!Beckham directed his attention to Molly, who merely stuffed more food into her mouth to avoid responding. He patiently awaited her to finish swallowing before enquiring, “Well?” Do you not believe we ought to visit bars to encounter more individuals?

Molly glanced between the two men. It was evident that Jayce was repulsed by the notion of visiting a dilapidated pub, likely due to his unfamiliarity with such establishments; however, it was prudent to gauge the situation.

I believe we should proceed with it. One can never predict what revelations will emerge when individuals are inebriated.

Jayce exhaled in exasperation and folded his arms. “Leave,” he instructed Beckham. For an instant, she believed he was addressing her as well.

Beckham derisively laughed and retrieved one of the plates. “Prepare yourselves promptly; I desire untroubled expressions upon my return.”

Molly rose and removed her apron once the door shut. Jayce scrutinised her, eliciting a reaction she wished to ignore. Memories of their previous night flooded her mind, yet she needed to concentrate on more pressing matters.

“If it alleviates your concerns, I also disapprove of the concept of a bar.” I am aware that individuals behave… exhibit altered behaviour when intoxicated. They utter insincere statements and engage in actions contrary to their intentions.

Jayce tightened his jaw, and she contemplated whether he was recalling the night he assaulted her, as she was. She swiftly averted her gaze and rummaged through the bags to locate a jumper and trousers to don, seeking anything that would enable her to assimilate with the crowd.

“I believe he merely desires to drink,” Jayce confessed. He rose and approached Molly, causing her breath to hitch as he extended his hand to tuck her loose hair behind her ear. “I am concerned that your appearance may provoke altercations.” I must secure victory in all of them.

Molly momentarily lost her ability to speak when he lightly pressed his lips against hers before entering the bathroom to change. The occurrence was so swift that she nearly believed it was a figment of her imagination.

An hour later, Beckham was knocking forcefully on their door. Jayce opened it abruptly and pulled him inside. “What aspect of remaining silent did you fail to comprehend?”Jayce emitted a hiss.

Beckham raised his hands in defence and gazed at Molly. She donned a plain black jumper and trousers, her hair cascading in waves down her back. He whistled as she rolled her eyes. ‘Whew, I might attempt to claim your girl for myself, James’.

Jayce propelled him towards the door. “Guide us promptly, or I shall hurl you off the nearest precipice.”

Molly grasped Jayce’s arm as they trailed Beckham down an elongated corridor and emerged into the open air. Outside the doors lay a diminutive village, which she had overlooked upon arrival; it featured a tavern and several small shops catering to the employees of Life Pharmacy. Molly cautiously descended the lengthy cobblestone steps before they entered.

Upon the door’s opening, she was enveloped by music, warmth, and laughter. The tavern was teeming with patrons, leaving scant room to manoeuvre. Jayce grasped her hand, navigating through the throng until they reached a secluded area at the rear, distanced from the most cacophonous sections. Beckham departed to procure drinks. Jayce settled beside her, his arm securely around her, as though challenging anyone to approach. She remained oblivious to the gazes directed at her until she traced the trajectory of Jayce’s glances.

If she acted that way, she would be scowling at every woman throughout the night for gazing at Jayce. Despite his dishevelled appearance, he was still significantly more attractive than any other man present, igniting a spark of jealousy within her as she observed their longing glances, as if they aspired to be the one in his bed.

No, she was incapable of this. Jealousy would consume her more than anything else. She would never find rest again if she allowed jealousy to dominate her.

"Alpha Prince, stop this madness! Can’t you see all I want is to leave this place, to be free of these suffocating walls and your overbearing presence? Do you think that just because fate bound us as mates, it gives you the right to claim dominion over me and this palace? You’re mistaken—horribly mistaken. You may call yourself a Prince, but your crown means nothing here. This is my domain, and the only place you’ll ever remain is beneath me, forever shackled by your arrogance and blinded by your pride."
