“The neighbour across the street notified the police, alleging that we were thieves.” Ryder scowled and shook his head. “By what means would she ascertain?”“
“I am uncertain; the police require the documentation for the relocation.”
“Therefore, provide it to them.” I resolved that issue. Affix my signature to it.
“However, her signature is absent from that documentation.”
“Damn humans,” he muttered. In his realm, it was unnecessary; he was the Alpha, and his decree was absolute. He rubbed his hand across his face, utterly fatigued, lacking the energy to confront this situation. He positioned himself upright and rested against the headboard. “One of the police officers is nearby.” Whom can I converse with?”
“Certainly, however…”
“However?”“He enquired wearily.”
“I suspect we are all being apprehended.”
Ryder negated with a shake of his head. “Connect me with one of them, locate the individual in charge, Luke.”
In under a minute, a voice enquired, “Senior Constable Mike, with whom am I speaking?””
“Good morning.” It was just past 7 a.m. there. “Senior Constable Mike,” he used the man’s complete title, aware that they despised inaccuracies. “I am Ryder Wood of Wood Industries; these are my movers, and I believe this is merely a misunderstanding.”
Is it now? “Not from the call we received.”
“Who, if I may enquire, initiated that call?” Was it my dear Brianna herself, which I doubt, or one of her meddlesome neighbours?He maintained a composed demeanour and addressed Brianna, the homeowner, by name, indicating that both the officer and Ryder were aware of her identity.
“It is irrelevant who initiated the call, Mr. Wood.” Until I receive communication from Miss Dieng regarding this issue, it constitutes trespassing at a minimum.
Ryder negated with a shake of his head. “In fact, it is not.” Brianna Dieng is relocating to Florida and will be employed by Wood Industries. What is the name of my company? My movers are present, packing her belongings and assisting with her relocation.
I would prefer to hear that directly from Miss Dieng. Is she present with you to verify this information?”
The man appeared to possess competence in his profession. “Not at this moment, no. I believe he is in Canada, preparing to inaugurate her new store.” It was necessary to maintain the illusion that he and Brianna were acquaintances, and that his awareness of her schedule would facilitate this. “My personnel possess valid travel documents.”
I have observed it. No document contains Miss Dieng’s signature. That does not constitute evidence of her consent to this.
Ryder exhaled, “I assure you, I am not appropriating her possessions, merely relocating them to her new domicile in Florida.”
“I require her confirmation; until then, your personnel are being apprehended and detained.”
“That is unnecessary, I assure you.”
“It is.” The call from her intrusive neighbour indicated that Miss Dieng herself instructed her to contact the police, claiming that your men were thieves. I will apprehend all of them. Detain them for as long as possible, until Miss Dieng contacts us to resolve this issue or indicates her intention to press charges. Have a good day, Mr. Wood, correct?Then the call disconnected.
Sleep is unattainable due to the disruptive human neighbours. He contemplated the extent of information Brianna possessed regarding his movers, assuming that was indeed the case. Did her neighbour report the moving company, or would Brianna suspect Nathan? The man had threatened her and intended to take her to his pack.
