The Alpha’s Second Chance – Chapter 7

Relaxation

He observed her halt and fixate on him, remaining stationary while scrutinising her. She exhibited no intimidation, which astonished him. He was astonished that he could not intimidate her and observed him inhale once more. He was once more attempting to ascertain her identity. Why had she not fulfilled his request? He would perceive no scent, as he had on every previous occasion when he passed her or encountered her, which had occurred multiple times. He would detect only a human scent, if he perceived any at all.

He stood in her office doorway, gazing directly at her as she reciprocated the gaze, her brown eyes fixed upon him. A subtle smirk graced his lips, indicating that she posed a challenge to him and his wolf.

He observed the wolf’s eyes emerge as it advanced, presumably intended to intimidate her; however, she merely raised an eyebrow and declared, “You do not intimidate me, leave my store.” She maintained her gaze on the wolf’s eyes.

He exhibited visible astonishment at her indifference to his outward display of aggression, then he simply turned and departed. “Indeed, depart and do not return,” she murmured to herself, aware that his acute hearing would detect it, yet indifferent, desiring him to understand her wish for his absence.

Checked the time and sighed; upon hearing the bell, he exited the store, poured a glass of water, and consumed it. Today was unfavourable. Today was an unforeseen event for which she had not been prepared.

As she descended the stairs, she noticed Stella’s inquisitive gaze. “I am going to retrieve Logan,” she stated.

“Affirmative, Brianna,” she merely nodded.

She exited her store and observed Luca across the street with the girl; upon closer inspection, she recognised that both packs Gamma and Delta were also present. The Gamma gazed directly at her while the girl embraced him, deriving solace from her Gamma—how endearing. She reflected with bitterness. Pivoted and proceeded down the street. She waited three blocks from the bus stop; she had endured far worse. All that girl received was a rejection, merely a pampered prima donna.

Observed Logan disembark from the bus and smiled at him, grateful that he inherited her caramel-colored hair with several natural sun-kissed blonde highlights. His complexion was fair, akin to hers; however, he possessed his father’s blue eyes, adorned with green flecks. He was her singular source of happiness in life. She smiled directly at him while he conversed with his friends, refraining from interrupting the boy, who was already surrounded by admirers at just seven years old, a manifestation of his Alpha genes, she presumed.

Ultimately, he directed his smile towards her, saying, “Hello, Mum.”

“Hello dear, I was considering that we could go and acquire waffles.”

She observed him smile and replied, “Certainly.” She was aware that it was his preferred indulgence: waffles topped with strawberries, drizzled in hot melted chocolate, accompanied by a generous scoop of chocolate ice cream.

He grasped her hand and walked to the café where they occasionally dined after school. Observed him eating with delight, “I believed we could escape for a brief vacation; the extended weekend is approaching.”

He gazed directly at her, enquiring, “No work?””

Brianna laughed and heard Layla chuckle in her mind, “No work… why don’t we go snowboarding?”

“Sweet,” he grinned, now filled with enthusiasm. The boy relished outdoor activities and had mastered snowboarding at the age of five. He exhibited remarkable natural agility, excelling in track and field as well as swimming. All his actions exhibited an innate talent at ‘Mum, it’s fall’, he abruptly declared.

“It is snowing in some part of the world,” she remarked. “Retrieve your phone and identify a location; we will depart Friday after school and return Monday.” You choose the location.

Brianna’s Perspective

All suitcases were packed and positioned downstairs by the store’s counter, prepared for their extended weekend in Whistler. She had reserved a two-bedroom Panorama Suite at the All Seasons Hotel, the flight from Colorado was confirmed, and a car would collect them from the store to transfer them to the airport. A person would be awaiting their arrival at the airport upon landing.

It was genuinely pleasant to escape and dedicate time to relaxation, snowboarding with Logan throughout the weekend. He had been exceedingly enthusiastic about the trip for the past two days, having already outlined his desired activities during their leisure time and the snowboarding runs he wished to undertake.

Brianna was in her studio on Friday midday, having not encountered any wolves in the past three days since her encounter with Luca, which had understandably distressed her, prompting her to seek an alternative location for Luna’s gown. This arrangement benefitted both Brianna and Layla. They would not create a gown for their former Alphas, Mate. Absolutely not.

She was affixing crystals to the bodice of a strapless gown she designed for a wealthy heiress, seated with a container of crystal beads beside her, while the ivory-colored gown rested across her lap.

He raised his head at the sound of her store’s front door slamming open and then closed. Scowled at the cacophony of her bell shattering chaotically. I heard her name mentioned by a man with a very angry tone. Exhaled audibly.

It was probably the father of the Whitmore girl; she had postponed his daughter’s dress fitting from this weekend to the next, prompting the girl to throw a tantrum akin to that of a two-year-old, exclaiming that it was unacceptable and threatening to inform her father. The situation was entirely acceptable; the girl’s wedding was scheduled for another four months, and this was the final fitting. She could collect the dress the subsequent weekend if alterations were necessary, which Brianna was confident they would be, as had been the case with every previous fitting.

Upon rising, he discerned by the sound of the irate footsteps ascending the stairs, accompanied by the lighter steps of his daughter, that the man and his temperamental daughter were approaching, presumably to reprimand her severely. Rehung the dress she was constructing on the mannequin and smoothed it to achieve a straightened appearance.

This was the sole aspect of her profession that she found unenjoyable: interacting with affluent aristocrats who perceived themselves as the centre of the universe, akin to Alpha wolves, exerting their dominance over others and attempting to manipulate individuals to fulfil their desires. Undoubtedly irritating.
