The Alpha’s Second Chance – Chapter 27

This Pack

“Brianna Dieng, can you provide any information regarding that she-wolf, Grace?””

Frequently appeared unwell. Initially, she did not appear this way, but by the conclusion of her tenure, she appeared emaciated and fragile, perpetually fatigued, with dark circles beneath her eyes and a pallid complexion. I enquired about her well-being on numerous occasions. She informed me that she frequently experiences poor sleep quality at night.

“Did you find that credible?”“He inquired.”

“Not especially.” However, I was unable to ascertain any information, as I previously mentioned. She was a taciturn girl, who consistently occupied my back room, labouring day after day, seldom engaging in conversation.

Ryder exhaled, “Her family?””

“I presume it would be documented.” “I did not associate with the same social circle,” she remarked with a shrug. “I never encountered them personally.”

“Thank you, Grace. You may leave now.”

The woman enquired, “Alpha, may I pose a question?””

He acquiesced.

If you did not consent to Brianna’s departure from the pack, how is it that she left?”

“That is the inquiry.” Grace may have deviated from protocol.

She nodded contemplatively, then turned and proceeded towards the door.

“What is it, Grace?”Nolan posed the inquiry.

“Her condition appeared deteriorating, progressively worsening over the years.” Upon reflection. May suggest a declined Mate. One who did not handle the rejection effectively.

Everyone in the room was now gazing at her.

“I have heard that rejection can be detrimental to one’s well-being.” Furthermore, if she was unable to manage, it could explain her abrupt departure without notice. Perhaps she has reached her limit upon witnessing her mate, who spurned her, with another, which could potentially transform her into a rogue she-wolf.

Ryder was currently frowning at her; she was correct in that regard. Observed the woman exit his office. Luca and Nolan both regarded him with questioning expressions.

I did not decline the girl. He murmured, “I was completely unaware, if that is indeed the situation.” Both were aware that he did not value their glances whatsoever.

He redirected his focus from them, slightly irritated with both, to his computer and entered the name Dieng into the pack’s database. The computer associated it with three individuals: Andrew Taylor, a ranked warrior, and his partner Anna Dieng, who was identified as originating from a different pack. She held a high warrior rank. Both individuals were deceased. They had a child, Brianna Dieng, which is unusual as the girl retained her mother’s surname, and it is also peculiar that Anna never adopted her partner Andrew’s surname.

He examined both files; there was nothing atypical regarding Andrew, although he had been ascending in rank annually and appeared to be on track for Elite status. An adept combatant accompanied by a sizable grey and black wolf named Harvey.

Anna Dieng, who is also highly ranked and exceptionally trained prior to joining his pack, originated from the Hot Moon Pack located north of the Canadian border. Arrived here at 20 minutes past after a mating ball. Her wolf was a diminutive silver specimen, and the photograph indicated that it possessed white eyes, akin to Brianna’s wolf.

Brianna Dieng had limited information available following the death of her parents, both of whom perished in a significant rogue attack. She was ten at the time, although her file did not indicate this; he merely remembered the dates of death from both her parents’ records.

No documentation exists regarding her guardianship following their demise. That was peculiar in itself. He would likely need to consult his father regarding that matter, as it was during his reign. He would have been just shy of 18 at the time of that occurrence.

An entry detailed the emergence of her wolf. Layla read that the wolf’s name was. The standard documentation was completed, albeit not by the girl’s guardians; her name was affixed to the report, accompanied by a handwritten description of her wolf. However, there was no photograph included, which was atypical, as a photo would typically have been captured and uploaded for reference.

Brianna and Layla, her company now known as Brianna Layla Designs, represents a fusion of her name and that of her wolf, an intriguing concept.

Ryder was unable to ascertain any information regarding her guardians or her place of residence, as there were no records associated with her name. However, upon reviewing the pack’s school records for Brianna Dieng, she discovered that Brianna had completed her education, and the records indicated her original home address, where she resided with her parents prior to their demise. That caused him to frown.

It is improbable that she could have resided independently there for an extended period; undoubtedly, his father and stepmother, the Luna by that time, would have arranged for the girl to be placed with another family. It was the procedure for all orphaned children. His stepmother was an admirable woman. He could not have witnessed her forsaking a child to the pack.

Brianna was present when he assumed control; she would have been 17 then and would have pledged her allegiance to him. Anyone possessing a wolf would have been compelled to do so. He observed in her file the documentation submitted for Brianna Dieng’s employment at Grace’s store in the town centre, which Grace had personally submitted; Brianna was 17 and a half at the time and commenced full-time work immediately.

Her age troubled him significantly. If Brianna Layla was indeed Brianna Dieng, and it now seemed she was the same individual, was she also his Mate? She would have been 21 when she departed from this pack.

Ryder was decidedly displeased with the information he was perusing; the timeline and her condition as reported by Grace could not possibly be accurate. Three years subsequent to her turning eighteen. Could you identify your Mate once you reached the age of 18, if that were the case? How could he remain unaware of her identity for three entire years? If she had been aware for three years, why did she not approach him? Surely the girl was not imprudent enough to conceal her scent from him for three years… if she had done so all this time?…

His eyes expanded as he comprehended the intricacy of the situation, of everything. Whenever he was with someone else, she would have felt it acutely, notwithstanding his lack of knowledge. As far as she was aware, she had detected him. Any actions he undertook with another she-wolf, whether within or outside this pack, would have been acutely felt by her, experiencing the anguish of betrayal repeatedly.
