The Alpha’s Second Chance – Chapter 24

Companion

Strived to maintain a light-hearted and enjoyable atmosphere for him throughout the day, consistently challenging and racing him at every opportunity, encouraging him to surpass her, only conceding victory at the conclusion. She even permitted herself to fall onto her backside, feigning a loss of balance to allow him to surge past her, hearing his exuberant whoop of joy, while pretending to grumble in annoyance, all the while relishing the experience with him.

Allow him to jest with her and assign her amusing epithets, observe his smile and sense of pride in being the superior snowboarder of the pair.

In the afternoon, they proceeded to the half pipe, where she smiled and recorded him. He was thoroughly enjoying their holiday, and she was equally content. All her concerns from the preceding week appeared to have dissipated now. Her son, the singular necessity in her existence. She could forgo all else provided she had him and he was content.

An Alpha forcefully pulled her away from filming, gripping her arm and glaring at her with intense fury. The girl’s father was present, and she was aware that he was there for her sake. In defence of his child, no Alpha could err; she attempted to extricate herself from his grasp, but it was too strong, and he was unwilling to release her.

“How dare you insult my daughter,” he uttered, his light blue eyes fixed intently on hers.

Layla immediately felt a surge of indignation, while Brianna retorted, “I attempted to be courteous, but she was impolite and showed no regard for interrupting my family.” She tugged at his grip once more, but to no effect. “Remove your hands from me.”

“You will apologise to her, or I will compel you to do so.” He sensed his aura abruptly intensify towards her. He attempted to intimidate her, as any individual might be affected by his presence.

Layla suppressed all aggression within her mind; even as a rogue, an Alpha could influence them, though not to compel submission, primarily instilling fear and prompting retreat. It is the method by which the majority safeguarded their packs. However, she and Layla were not inclined to do that.

“She ought to apologise to me first.” “To my son, whom she offended,” she retorted. “Are you equally arrogant and selfish?””

Heard his wolf snarl at her in a low and menacing manner in response to her words. They were displeased by the manner of communication, unaccustomed to individuals contesting their authority, and observed Layla respond with equal menace. He appeared more than astonished by this, was unaware of whom or what he was confronting, and, like the others, presumed she was human.

“Remove yourself from my mother,” she heard Logan exclaim. She turned to face him, nearly horrified by the sight; he was sprinting towards her, mere meters away, wielding his snowboard as if prepared to strike the Alpha with it.

“Logan, cease.” She forcibly withdrew her arm, or the Alpha relinquished his grip upon observing her son approaching. She positioned herself before him, knelt, and placed her hands on his arms. “Compose yourself.”

He gasped as he extricated himself from her grasp and propelled the snowboard directly at the Alpha, then turned to observe the outcome. The man effortlessly swatted it aside, yet the boy now commanded his full attention. “I apologize,” she exclaimed hastily, “he is unaware.” She attempted to elucidate to the Alpha.

“Remove yourself from her vicinity,” Logan abruptly shouted at him. To her dismay, his voice had a gravelly quality, and upon turning to face him, she noticed his eyes were white, resembling Layla’s. His Alpha Wolf had manifested and was advancing, attempting to assert dominance over a fully developed, mature Alpha.

Seized his face and drew it close to hers, saying, “Shh, Logan, focus on me.” “Concentrate on me,” she attempted to soothe him.

His wolf remained stationary, growling at her and the circumstances, displeased with her attempts to retreat. The Alpha behind her snorted, appearing amused by the situation. However, she did not find it amusing in the slightest. If he were to relocate here and now in the presence of all the humans, chaos would ensue. They were unaware of wolves.

“Calm down,” she reiterated, uncertain of the name of his wolf to ameliorate the situation.

Layla leaned forward to gaze directly at her son, successfully capturing his attention. His gaze shifted to hers, akin to a wolf’s stare. She caressed his face and implored him to compose himself. To withdraw and permit Logan’s return.

Logan’s Alpha Wolf gazed at her for a full minute, then snorted in irritation before relinquishing his control, permitting Logan to advance once more.

Logan gazed at her. Brianna regained control, observed his confusion regarding the recent events, and then glanced past her towards the Alpha. She was aware of his continued presence, as his scent lingered in the air.

Embraced him and assured him that everything would be fine, then lifted him and turned to confront the Alpha. She recognised that he would not respond favourably to this, yet she could do no more than offer her apologies. Her gaze intersected with his.

The man shook his head and sighed, “He is quite young.”

Brianna recognised that he was alluding to the manifestation of his Alpha Wolf and likely inferred from her response that he was aware this was the inaugural occurrence of such an event.

“Who is the father of the boy?”“He inquired.”

“What significance does it hold for you?”“She enquired softly.”

“I believe it will be significant.” Based on my knowledge of you, Brianna Layla. A designer of wedding dresses for humans.” He then spoke in a quieter tone. “You are not particularly human,” he remarked, shaking his head.

She merely gazed at him; there was nothing to articulate. “His eyes, uncommon, are rarely seen.” He bent down and retrieved the snowboard that Logan had thrown at him. “Perhaps you and I should converse.”

“I believe I would rather abstain.”

“I am confident that you would not.” However, should you decline, I may respond in accordance with the challenge your companion has presented.

Brianna experienced trepidation at his statement, “He is merely a child,” she exclaimed. “You cannot be serious.”
