The Alpha’s Second Chance – Chapter 162

Surveyed

“Hungry,” she remarked with a smile. “Shall we expedite this process?””

“Let us refrain,” Brianna sighed. “Perhaps you and I should simply part ways.” Do you wish to initiate a conflict now?”

“With whom?”The woman pivoted and surveyed her surroundings. “I perceive no one accompanying you, nor do I detect any presence with you.”

Brianna retorted, “That does not imply I am solitary.” She was entirely unaffiliated, yet she was not solitary; however, she was aware that no assistance was forthcoming and was unable to summon aid. She did not bring her phone, knowing that Ryder would incessantly call to persuade her to answer. She had left it at the hotel because she had not desired it, and now recognised the folly of her decision.

She had not anticipated encountering any other beings in this area, but now she was enlightened.

The woman’s gaze returned to her neck, noting the absence of any mark, as she contemplated the veracity of Brianna’s statement.

“I believe you are solitary,” she remarked, tilting her head. “And a hybrid, no less.” She smiled. “Let us propose a little game: you flee.” I will provide you with a complete minute advantage. You may indeed escape. “You can never be certain,” she said, her voice brimming with amusement, suggesting she relished the pursuit, Brianna inferred.

“I decline, thank you.” I would prefer not to. The Alpha Wolf present here will not either collect me.

I heard the woman laugh, “You jest.” No Alpha would desire a hybrid such as you.

Layla attacked the woman with extended claws before Brianna comprehended the situation, evidently displeased by the affront. Observed the gruesome claw marks on the woman’s face and realised it was futile to flee. They were positioned on a well-illuminated street when chaos ensued.

Brianna had been forcefully relegated to the recesses of her consciousness, while Layla confidently took charge to confront the vampire, maintaining complete control. The confrontation between her wolf and the vampire commenced in under 10 seconds: Vampire versus Wolf. The woman was exceptionally swift and powerful, seized them, and employed her full strength and speed to pull them down the street into an alleyway, subsequently discarding them away from her. Layla was the one who fell to the ground and tumbled several times before managing to rise.

Upon rising, all her claws extended, and a formidable snarl erupted from her as her fight instincts activated. She, however, remained stationary, confining Brianna within the recesses of her own consciousness.

Desired the vampire’s presence.

In an attempt to assess speed and capability, they were unaware of the creature’s age; however, her behaviour of attempting to prey on them in the open suggested she was likely young and still impulsive. Based on their knowledge of vampires, most would refrain from feeding in public, as it poses a risk of revealing their kind, which is punishable by their own laws.

Witnessed her advance towards Layla, who narrowly evaded at the final moment, yet extended her claws towards the woman, inflicting a laceration on her side, eliciting a hiss of pain, before turning to confront her, agony radiating through them both. The woman had anticipated the dodge and retaliated simultaneously, not being the sole individual to extend her hand.

The claws had inflicted severe wounds, and she was already returning for Layla. Her eyes radiated the faintest shade of blue she had ever encountered, her being manifesting on the surface. They were uncertain of their chances of victory, yet they resolved to make an attempt.

They had Logan to consider. Utilised all acquired knowledge from warrior training.

Compelled Layla to grant her a degree of control to aid in the confrontation, leveraging the confined space of the alley to their benefit, utilising their agility training, while recognising that the creature’s rapid movements in such a limited area could work to their disadvantage. Several parked vehicles and a pair of substantial dumpsters were present in this location.

Intense pain pierced them as the vampire struck; she was too swift, making it difficult to track her movements. Although it seemed she lacked full self-control, struck the alley wall and cried out in pain, she appeared unable to halt in time, suggesting she was a young and untrained vampire.

A boon, was poised to exploit that to their benefit.

They excelled in agility, utilising her wolf’s maximum speed to traverse the alley, executing a pivot turn at the last moment to dash back, thereby assessing the vampires’ reflexes and training, only to hear the vampire collide with the wall.

Exploited this knowledge, she sank her claws into the creature and propelled herself to the opposite side of the alley. It functioned only three times before the vampire halted and growled at her, having already discerned her actions and disapproving of them.

The creature abruptly bellowed in exasperation and fury. Both she and Layla were bleeding in multiple areas. They exchanged blows, but their only option was to outmanoeuvre the creature, hoping to inflict sufficient damage to compel it to retreat and recuperate. However, it was evident that the creature was famished, and she required sustenance to recuperate.

That constituted the distinction between them.  Layla possessed the ability to heal at her discretion, although progress was gradual amidst the conflict. The vampire was unable to. For each drop of blood lost, it would require sustenance to replenish it.
