He relinquished the falsehood.
“Very well,” he acknowledged. “Who was the wolf?”“Let us proceed according to her preferences; perhaps he could ascertain whether she believed he believed her.”
“Why does it matter?” “It was an accident,” she retorted.
What was the issue with this woman? He massaged his temples; was it truly so difficult to relinquish a name? He was merely attempting to ascertain the events and uncover the truth, administering consequences to those deserving.
That was his responsibility as the Alpha. She would realise that if she relinquished her own father, Caelan would exact punishment on him, and she was unwilling for her father to suffer at the hands of her Alpha.
Caelan approached and seated himself directly on the bed before her. “I will refrain from punishing them, if it was indeed, as you assert, an accident.” He attempted to reassure her, yet he intended to severely assault the man and incarcerate him for several days for injuring his own child. He immediately discerned that she did not believe him, likely evident in his expression. She would probably possess the ability to interpret him. She had endured two years of his unpredictable moods, not that he had ever physically harmed her, but he had expressed his anger verbally.
Caelan exhaled audibly and subtly inclined his head. If she was unwilling to disclose the information, he would need to proceed formally and initiate an investigation. “I will not extract information from you, Daisy,” he stated, genuinely. “However, I require an account of the events from both your perspective and theirs.”
“I informed you.” “I startled them, and they inadvertently bit me,” she reiterated her account.
“I do not believe you,” Caelan stated candidly, and he was convinced it was not an accident. “I will conduct an investigation; it should not require much time, considering the hour.” The blood trail would readily guide him and Mason to the location of the incident and the implicated wolf. “Few individuals were present, primarily border patrol,” he remarked, anticipating that she would comprehend his intention to investigate and identify the individual in question.
He anticipated that she would inform him, considering he would inevitably discover the truth. She did not, however, comply. He rose, approached the door, halted, and declared, “No shifting until this matter has been resolved,” before exiting the room.
Caelan’s Perspective
He departed from Mason to escort Daisy to her chamber. After they escorted her from the pack hospital to the pack house, she remained silent as she walked between them. Mason maintained a hand on the small of her back throughout the journey; for once, Caelan was unperturbed by his Beta’s touch on the woman. He was merely attempting to provide her with modest solace.
Caelan proceeded directly to his office, while Mason accommodated her in her room, aware that Mason would attempt to engage her in conversation once more. Encourage her to acknowledge that it was her own father. It was peculiar that she refused to converse with Mason, which Caelan found displeasing. Mason also disapproved.
“Nothing.” Mason slammed the door as he entered Caelan’s office. Caelan found it peculiar that Mason appeared to be angry with Daisy, as he could not remember a single instance in his life when Mason had ever been even mildly upset with her. This was novel.
Daisy provoked a primal reaction from his Beta, just as she did from Caelan himself. “Let us proceed to converse with the man,” Caelan asserted bluntly.
Mason affirmed, “I delivered the initial blow, Caelan.”
“I informed her that I would not impose any punishment on the individual.”
Mason arched an eyebrow at him in inquiry. “I never asserted that you would not.” Caelan smiled at the man, a subtle evasion.
“Excellent, that scoundrel is my possession.”
They departed the office and proceeded directly to the North Eastern border, discovered Daisy’s blood trail, observed the site of the assault, and noted that Amelia appeared to have been caught off guard. Her wolf’s tracks were stationary and then abruptly dashed away. Caelan was exceedingly irritated.
They encountered Wesson, John’s wolf, patrolling as anticipated, seemingly unfazed by recent events. The wolf raised its head to observe them, lowered it in deference, and did not flee. He may have believed that Caelan would remain unaware or indifferent.
He was completely incorrect.
Regardless of Caelan’s indifference, Mason, as the Beta, would have addressed the situation, and with Daisy as the target, his Beta would have been unyielding. This man and his wolf would not escape justice.
“Shift,” Caelan commanded, his Alpha Aura emanating from him. The man would not have the option in the matter.
He was compelled to relocate by the directive of his Alpha.
John faced the two of them and exhaled audibly. He undoubtedly understood the reason for their presence; how could he not?
What transpired?Mason outpaced Caelan in the interrogation.
John’s gaze shifted from Caelan to the pack’s Beta. He was acutely aware of the proximity between the two and was engaging in a perilous game by inflicting pain on Daisy, fully cognisant of the implications.
