As she stood there gazing at the dark black dress, she loathed it. She refused to wear it. Approached her walk-in closet and donned attire other than pyjamas for the first time since departing the hospital. She packed her single suitcase, the identical one she arrived with. She would depart with only what she had arrived with, having desired nothing from him, save perhaps his heart. Perhaps. However, she had never achieved that; she could not even elicit his affection. He would never do that.
She stood transfixed by the dress for an indeterminate duration before abruptly removing it from the hanger, approaching the fireplace, and igniting it, observing as it incinerated. She placed her suitcase in the car and departed from the pack-house.
The pack gates were shut. She approached and gazed at the guard. He regarded her with a degree of astonishment. She had not been seen for months. “Open the gate,” she instructed him. He was unable to decline, as she was Mated to the future Alpha and, starting tomorrow, was expected to become the future Luna of this pack.
Daisy observed the gate opening and noted the guard’s frown as he glanced into the backseat, where her solitary suitcase was situated. She remained silent. Depressed the accelerator immediately upon the opening of the gates and drove out. She advanced only 20 feet when two guards abruptly appeared in front of her vehicle.
She anticipated this outcome; she had not exited the bedroom for two months and had not communicated with anyone during that period. She was currently operating her vehicle with a suitcase in the trunk. They had established a mental connection with Caelan to inform him that she was departing from pack territory, and he instructed them to prevent her.
She was sufficiently mature to be the prospective Luna and could finally act according to her desires, including rejecting him.
“Halt the vehicle,” one of them shouted at her. Both individuals were positioned with their hands resting on the hood. Having ceased her actions, she wished to avoid causing them harm. Engaged the parking gear, activated the handbrake, exited the vehicle, while leaving the engine running. Rested against her vehicle and awaited. His car approached swiftly, followed by the sound of the door slamming as he exited.
Furious. What else is novel? This is his consistent behaviour towards her.
He could not recall a single instance in which he had smiled at her. He was likely handsome; she would not be aware. He had never regarded her with anything besides irritation or anger.
“To what destination are you proceeding?”He insisted on knowing.
Daisy glanced at him. This would be the first occasion she had gazed upon him in three months, not since she had descended from his balcony. She gazed at him, experiencing an absence of emotion as she peered into his dark green eyes—no regret, no affection, no sorrow, not even ire, merely emptiness. “I am departing, Caelan,” she stated calmly; these were the first words she had uttered to him in six months, since the last occasion he had exerted his Alpha authority over her so severely that Mason had to intervene to prevent her demise.
“You are departing six hours prior to your official designation as the future Luna.”
“Yes,” she affirmed, “I’m finished, Caelan.” She was remarkably composed, she reflected inwardly. Her words were devoid of animosity; she did not intend to harm him. She was liberating both him and herself. “You do not love me.” Regardless of my efforts to satisfy you, you were unable to even appreciate me. You will never do so.
“Daisy,” he sighed, appeared less irate with her, which was unprecedented.
“No, Caelan,” she replied, shaking her head slowly. “It is time, and you are aware of it.” You informed me during the entirety of our Mate Bond. It is entirely my responsibility. I accept responsibility. She calmly reminded him of the numerous occasions on which he had expressed this. She was not seeking confrontation; she merely wanted to demonstrate that she had acknowledged him.
“Daisy, please, it’s…” nearly resembled a plea from him.
Unlikely, she dismissed it with a dismissive gesture. Not an action she had previously undertaken. “Do not trouble Caelan; it is merely a falsehood.”
Your gathering is fully prepared. You will be formally designated as the Future Luna of this Pack. Tomorrow… and you have opted to depart now!He had reverted to a state of anger. Enraged, she audaciously interrupted him.
“Affirmative,” she acknowledged.
“I shall not permit you.”
She inclined her head marginally to the right; he will not permit her. She momentarily pursed her lips, then a melancholic smile graced her face; she was unable to comprehend him. He did not desire her, had never desired her, not even for an instant. For two consecutive years, she had been a liability to him, the individual who had devastated his existence.
Daisy Clinton exhaled deeply and gazed directly at him. “I, Daisy Clinton, hereby formally reject you, Caelan Caldwell, as my Mate,” she declared with composure. It caused no pain, she reflected; I am truly finished. It was intended to induce pain. However, she experienced no emotions.
Observed his green eyes brim with fury, and she sensed it emanating from him in waves. “I shall not accept it,” he growled at her.
