The Alpha’s Possession – Chapter 3

Emptiness

She had not responded; he would likely be aware that she would not, having not uttered a single word to him since the day he last commanded her as Alpha. What makes today distinct?

Observed his pack card fall onto the bed adjacent to her face; her gaze shifted to it momentarily before reverting to the window, where she beheld birds soaring freely, appearing quite content.

“Rise and procure a dress for the announcement,” he instructed her. “Mother is persistently urging me about it.”

It was incomprehensible to her why he believed she would utilise his card and expend his funds. She possessed a personal pack of cards, bestowed upon her by him the week following her relocation here. She had never utilised it. Had never worn the garments his mother had acquired for her. They all remained in the walk-in, tags still attached. She rejected his financial assistance. Had never desired this or his wealth.

She contemplated her freedom as she observed the birds in flight, then rose from the bed and stepped onto the balcony to watch them.

What are you currently engaged in?Caelan retorted at her; the reverberation of his voice indicated he was in the toilet. He disapproved of her being outside unclothed for public view.

Daisy was indifferent; she was determined to attain freedom, akin to those birds. She placed a hand on the railing, ascended, and leaped without contemplation, hearing him scream her name in a tone that suggested horror, she mused absently as she soared towards freedom. Shut her eyes. “Liberated,” she murmured. She could sense her wolf’s panic within her mind, compelling her to shift in order to absorb the impact of their fall to the ground. She exhibited greater toughness and strength, increasing her likelihood of surviving a four-story fall to the unforgiving ground below. I heard Amelia, the wolf, howl in agony, followed by a state of blessed oblivion.

Daisy awoke in the pack hospital, seemingly broken and devoid of her wolf. Caelan was positioned adjacent to her bed. She did not glance at him, nor did she require to, as she could perceive his presence through scent, confirming his identity. What was his purpose for being there? She was unaware! Gazed at the ceiling.

She resided in that hospital bed for a month, tranquil, managing to sleep independently each night. Caelan visited daily, in the morning, afternoon, and evening. She neither glanced at him nor uttered a word to him. He refrained from making physical contact, merely seated himself and, as far as she could discern, gazed at her. She maintained her eyes shut during his visits or merely gazed vacantly at the ceiling. She appreciated the white ceiling, which enveloped her mind like a pristine blanket.

Mason also visited daily. He grasped her hand and conversed with her, assuring her repeatedly that everything would be markedly different from this point forward. That circumstances would improve. At times, he implored her to engage in conversation with him. She did not relent, even when he implored with palpable sorrow, emphasising each word. She refrained from conversing with anyone.

Returned to Caelan’s room for ongoing bed rest upon discharge from the hospital, expressing a strong reluctance to remain there. However, it appeared she had no alternative. Remained his companion.

The balcony doors appeared to be nailed shut, as did all the windows; it seemed there would be no recurrence of her four-story descent to the ground—she was now confined.

She discovered herself not only in bed with him, but with his body pressed against hers and his arms encircling her each night. It could only have been Hudson. Caelan would never engage with her in that manner. His wolf had cherished Amelia, and he likely longed for his Mate. Caelan ought to have simply declined her and concluded the matter. At the very least, he had not attempted to engage in s****l relations with her.

Awoke mid-morning the day prior to her formal announcement as the future Luna to discover what, under typical circumstances, would have been the most exquisite black mermaid-style dress suspended on the walk-in door, adorned with crystals on the bodice, which she regarded absently, reminiscent of diamonds. Numerous ruffles and feathers, with multiple layers extending from the knee downward. The garment was a strapless dress.

However, upon reflection, all she could contemplate was that this would serve as her funeral shroud for the remainder of her existence, a garment she did not desire. One that she recognised Caelan also did not desire. The dress, black in hue, symbolised the pervasive darkness enveloping them both.

She believed she had discovered an escape, yet ultimately endured the situation.

Negative! She refused to don that dress, rose from the bed where she had reclined for the past two months, and retrieved the acceptance letter indicating her forthcoming residence on campus.

Caelan had personally delivered it to her, informing her that she had been accepted into her preferred university, despite her not having opened it; he had done so himself. For the first time ever, he expressed a kind sentiment to her during their Mate Bond.

That was the sole occasion he had expressed anything vaguely kind to her. He expressed his pride in her, acknowledging her diligent efforts and their resultant success. He sat on the bed beside her, while her gaze remained directed at the opposite side of the room. Daisy had refrained from acknowledging him for the past three months, experiencing an absence of emotion—neither anger nor sadness, merely emptiness.
