Amelia gazed past him at Kaiden, directing a fierce glare at him and his wolf, which eventually withdrew, leaving only Kaiden observing her.
He appeared excessively inquisitive; Amelia snorted in anger and subsequently retreated to the recesses of Daisy’s mind. Daisy glanced from Caelan to Kaiden. She would not apologise for Amelia’s behaviour, as they were unaware of the complete truth.
She turned to Luna.
“Alpha Ronan should be present in this room.”
“I am well, dear.”
“Amelia would feel more at ease if he were present now.”
“Very well,” she acknowledged.
Daisy observed as Luna’s eyes momentarily glazed over before reverting to their normal state. “He is en route.”
Caelan delicately caressed her arm. “Return to your seat,” he gestured towards the couch.
Alpha Ronan entered the office shortly thereafter, smiled directly at her, and took a seat beside her. “What troubles you, my child?””
She scowled at him, indicating that he remained unaware. “Amelia simply desires your presence.” Has confidence in you.
He nodded to her and then settled himself comfortably on the couch beside her.
She did not glance at either Caelan or Kaiden while the rules were articulated; at one point, she surveyed the room and noticed that Mason was entirely absent, which caused her to frown.
He was perpetually present, consistently accompanying Caelan.
She perceived the two of them provoking one another regarding her, was indifferent to it, rose and exited the room, and surveyed the hallway in both directions in search of him. It was peculiar that he was absent.
“What troubles you, Luna?”Alex enquired of her.
“Mason is absent,” she informed him.
“I believe he is still asleep,” he replied to her.
She inferred that he had endured a lengthy night, likely not retiring until after she had succumbed to slumber. She was displeased by his absence and distanced herself from the Luna’s office.
“Daisy, my dear, where are you headed?”It was Luna Elizabeth.
“What?”She turned to face her and discovered four pairs of eyes upon her. She had been so preoccupied with Mason’s absence that she momentarily forgot she was meant to be in that room. “My presence is unnecessary in that context.” She dismissed their debate on the rules, expressing her indifference, and then departed for her room, leaving them in astonished silence.
Heard Alex chuckle as he followed her.
Heard Beta Ben snap “its not funny.”
Daisy turned and looked at the two of them, sighed. “I don’t want either of you following me. Go away.”
“That is not going to happen.” Beta Ben stated flatly.
“I can order you to go away if you like.” She shot at him and his tone, and she actually could. She was a Luna ranked wolf, was technically still one apparently, and both her prospective Mate’s were Alpha’s, so still going to be one. Though the way the two of them were arguing, didn’t sit well with her, she hated the atmosphere like a quiet, peaceful lifestyle, which was what she’d had up until a month ago.
“Where is Oliver and his team?”
“Oliver was outside your room last night, so sleeping now.” Alex informed her.
“I’m used to them. Don’t take offence, but I’d rather have them.” not only did his team not interact with her, they didn’t stand on top of her.
Stood back and gave her space, unlike Ben and Alex who were only two steps behind her.
“No offence taken, Luna; when I am absent, one of them will be present.”
Daisy acquiesced and proceeded to her room, where she collapsed onto her couch. Caelan and Kaiden, she recognised, were not her foremost priority. On a profound level, she understood that she ought to feel affectionate and enamoured with one or both of them; however, despite recognising their scent and identifying them as her Mates, her attraction was overshadowed by her dilemma with Mason, which eclipsed all other emotions.
If they disapproved, they could either tolerate it or dismiss her.
Caelan’s Perspective
His mother’s voice roused him, and it was just before 8 a.m. He reluctantly emerged from his bed and positioned himself beneath the shower, allowing the hot water to attempt to soothe him. Yesterday’s occurrences had nearly resulted in his demise, and now he must confront Daisy’s acquisition of a second mate. He exhaled deeply; could his existence become any more arduous?
He failed to comprehend the information he had received regarding Rose’s actions towards them; she had witnessed it firsthand, responded as he would have, and killed the woman. He felt relief at her demise. However, he had not desired Daisy to act in that manner. She possessed a gentle disposition; he would never wish for her to engage in such actions. She anticipated being able to manage the subsequent emotions.
He was accustomed to exterminating rival wolves; it was his duty to safeguard this pack. He had been defending it against rogues and other packs since he transformed at sixteen, fighting alongside his father.
In the manner characteristic of an Alpha. Daisy was never required to undertake such tasks. He contemplated her ability to cope and wished for her well-being. He wished to discuss all that Rose had articulated, yet he was reluctant to initiate the conversation simultaneously. Both were now aware of her experiences, and he wished to prevent her from attempting to revisit them; he did not wish to relive them himself.
He sighed, turned off the water, exited, and decided to leave it for the time being. If she wished to discuss it and initiated the conversation, he would permit her to do so. Clean-shaven and attired in light grey trousers and a white short-sleeved dress shirt. Adjusted his hair, observed it, and contemplated whether she appreciated his new haircut or would favour a return to the conventional short back and sides. He would need to enquire of her at some juncture.
He was putting on his shoes when his mother contacted him again, advising him not to hurry for breakfast. Daisy, feeling somewhat distressed, instructed him to leave immediately and terminated the connection. He resented his inability to descend and embrace her as he had the previous night, yet he recognised his mother’s presence and her unwillingness to depart.
