Fear surged through my veins at the sight of the Alpha King and his men. His ominous laughter shattered my spirit. The expression in his eyes was lethal, instilling fear in me, not for my own safety, but for my companion.
“What on earth, Mother?! How could you participate in Father’s unscrupulous activities?” I spoke to Mother in a subdued tone. Despite his ability to comprehend all I spoke.
Mother’s gaze flickered towards me in perplexity. “I am uncertain regarding the subject of your discourse–“
“Father informed him of my presence here, which prompted his arrival. Why would you collaborate with Father in his deceit? You are aware of the extent of my suffering at his hands,”
“I am uncertain about the situation, dear. I did not assist your father in this matter. It was entirely his doing,” she responded.
I slightly relaxed, redirecting my fury towards the Alpha King. Jimmy continued to observe us in utter bewilderment, and once more, I wished he were not present. I will sacrifice anything to prevent him from witnessing this dreadful encounter. I am certain that this will not conclude favourably. My experiences with the Alpha King have never concluded favourably, but I am apprehensive that Jimmy’s presence may exacerbate the situation.
“Greetings, young companion. It has been quite some time since our last encounter,” he remarked with a smirk that provoked a disquieting sensation in my stomach. “I never anticipated you would return directly to my embrace, dear.”
“I would prefer death to returning to your embrace,” I declared with disdain.
His face contorted, and I observed the tension in his jaw. He attempted to maintain composure, although it was ineffective. The fury was already consuming him from within.
I am fearful. He is likely to harm Jim. What will become of me if he injures Jimmy? The pounding of my heart against my chest is audible from afar. I am extremely anxious at this moment. I do not wish to lose my mate. As a rejected werewolf, the loss of my second chance mate could lead to my demise.
“Are you well?”Jimmy reduced the gap between us. I intended to retreat from him. The Alpha King had not yet seen him, and I wished to prevent that occurrence.
“I am well, Jim.” “Do not concern yourself with my well-being,” I remarked to him with a slight smile, attempting to distance him from me. However, he remains steadfastly beside me. He seizes my hand and holds it with an air of possession. Despite his efforts to soothe me, I am anything but calm; his actions only exacerbate my agitation.
What is occurring here?The King bellowed. I recoiled at his voice, withdrawing my hand from Jimmy’s grasp. Oh, dear Goddess, my deepest fear is about to materialise.
“Disengage from my companion immediately!””The King commands as though I were his own. ‘You have no right to touch my partner!’
Jimmy, annoyed by his tone, advances and states, “You have no authority to refer to her in that manner.”
“What did you just utter?!” The King advances as well, and I apprehend that they may soon engage in a confrontation. Jimmy is resolute, regardless of my persistent tugging on his arm. I am willing to confront the merciless King. However, I do not wish to place my closest friend in a challenging position.
“You understood me. Jessica is not your companion, and you possess no authority to designate her as such,” Jimmy replied audaciously.
“Who are you? And why are you gripping my mate’s hand with such fervour and possessiveness?!” the King bellowed, positioning himself to reveal his teeth and claws.
Cease this behaviour, both of you!I intervened before the situation escalated further. Jimmy, my companion, possesses strength, although it is unwise to confront a merciless King and his warriors alone. The odds are unfavourable for him.
“Who is he, Jessica?”The monarch interrogates me.
I refrained from speaking to avoid provoking the Alpha king against Jimmy, but my father emerged from his office, indicating that the situation had escalated significantly.
“My king, disregard that fool.” “That is the repugnant, slimy creature my daughter returned with as a second mate,” he stated. “I have already advised her to dismiss him, but she chose to disregard my counsel as her father.”
