“Arlo, are you alright?” my father asked.
“Yes, sir. Have a seat,” I said.
“Is something wrong, son? If you want to talk about anything, remember I’m always here for you and ready to listen,” he said.
I took a deep breath before answering.
“Dad, it feels like something is missing in me like there’s a past I can’t remember. Who is Lily in my life?” I asked, surprising my father.
“Arlo! Why are you asking about her?”
“Do you know her, dad?” I asked again.
“She was your ex-fiance—” My father was interrupted when my mother suddenly entered the room.
“What are you two talking about? Philip, why didn’t you tell me you had already returned? If your secretary hadn’t told me you were back, I wouldn’t have known you were here in the country!” my mother said angrily.
“Dad, what were you saying about Lily? And you too, Mom, I know you know something about her. Tell me who she is in my life and what she means when she says we have children together. Tell me the truth!” I shouted.
“Arlo, she’s nothing. She’s just causing a scandal because some people want to ruin your reputation and stop your wedding to Valerie,” my mother replied.
“Ella,” my father said as I turned my gaze toward him.
“Philip, I’m a mother. Enough of the years our son has suffered. Arlo, son, focus on your upcoming wedding to Valerie. If things are bothering you, don’t dwell on them because they’ll only make your headaches worse. Some things are better left forgotten if they’ll do us harm,” my mother said to me.
I left without saying a word to the two of them because my headache worsened, and I was even more confused. I knew they were hiding something from me, but I wouldn’t stop until I found out the truth.
My mother followed me, but I ignored her. Once inside my car, she knocked on the window, but I started the engine and drove away.
I reached for my phone to call Gilbert, but I had left it in my office. I thought about going back for it, but I didn’t have time, and I didn’t want to catch my parents arguing. Since I woke up from my coma, they had been cold toward each other.
I suddenly stopped driving when I saw Lily get into her Jaguar C-X75. This meant she wasn’t just any ordinary woman chasing a man for his money.
I decided to follow her car as if something was compelling me to do so.
She stopped her car at an apartment building. I parked mine on the side and waited for her to come out.
After a while, she came out and got back into her car. I continued following her. She stopped again, this time at a coffee shop. She went inside, but I didn’t get out of my car when I saw some media personnel around.
She stayed inside for about 30 minutes before coming out again. I followed her once more.
She drove to a large building with a sign that read “ DAVIS Company.”“
The name “Davis” felt familiar, but I couldn’t remember why. My heart felt heavy, and a warm sensation filled me as I saw a woman get out of a luxurious car, accompanied by two children and two nannies.
I couldn’t clearly see the children’s faces because the two women blocked my view. The woman turned in my direction, and I saw her face—it looked exactly like Lily’s. Her face seemed familiar, but I couldn’t fully remember.
I rolled down my car window and heard the voices of the two children.
“Grandma, are we spending Christmas at Davis Mansion?” one child asked.
“ Grayson, yes, Mommy said we’ll spend Christmas at the Mansion,” the other replied.
Their voices felt light and comforting to me.
Third Person POV
“Ma’am Lily, you have visitors in your office. They’ve been waiting for quite a while,” her secretary informed her.
“Visitors?” Lily asked in surprise, as she wasn’t expecting anyone today.
Lily entered her office to see who the visitors were. Upon stepping inside, her eyes landed on two men seated in the chairs near her desk.
“ Leo, Gilbert,” Lily uttered, recognizing Arlo’s two friends.
“Lily ,” Gilbert said, standing alongside Leo.
“What are you doing here?” Lily asked, clearly confused. It had been a long time since she’d last seen Arlo’s friends.
