I stared blankly at the paper in my hand. I wasn’t myself while listening to their conversation.
“child,” my father called out to me.
“I’m sorry,” I apologized.
“Son, if you’re not feeling well, I’ll handle the meeting,” my father offered.
When I saw a faint light shining through an unfamiliar door, I quickly stood up.
“Wait for me. I’ll come with you. I’m getting up now. Please don’t leave me. I want to see my child, please,” I begged her.
“No, Arlo. I will never let you see my child. We don’t need you. You’ve been gone for so long!” she shouted at me.
I ran after her, and when I caught up to her, I hugged her tightly, begging her not to leave me.
“Let go of me. I don’t need you, and I don’t love you, Arlo. I don’t love you,” she kept repeating to me.
“Please, stay! Don’t leave me,” I pleaded, struggling to say her name. Suddenly, she disappeared from my arms as if she had vanished into thin air. I felt like I was in another world.
I searched for the little girl who was crying, but I couldn’t find the woman anymore. The sound of the little girl’s crying grew louder.
I woke up drenched in sweat, gasping for air. When I opened my eyes, I realized I was on the floor, kneeling.
My entire body felt heavy. The pain in my head was unbearable, and I struggled to stand up as dizziness overwhelmed me. I screamed in pain.
I quickly searched for my calming medication. After taking it, I was able to breathe easier. My heart was pounding hard. Thankfully, I had taken my medication in time, or else I felt like my head might have split open from the pain.
Ever since I saw that woman named Lily, I’ve been dreaming about the woman whose face I couldn’t see.
I always ask myself, who is the woman I keep dreaming about whose face I can’t recognize? Every time I embrace her, she suddenly disappears from my arms.
“Ahhhh…” I screamed loudly.
I was confused by these recurring dreams that haunted me. Who are these people from my past? Why does it feel like I know them? I feel like the woman I keep dreaming about is the same person.
What role do they play in my life?
I spent hours thinking and couldn’t fall back asleep because my mind was flooded with unanswered questions.
When I remembered that I had an important meeting at my MEGA WINERY, I hurried into the bathroom and took a shower. Leo told me that I also couldn’t miss tonight’s big business dinner.
A few minutes later, I arrived at Bonde’s Company and went straight to the conference room.
I was surprised to see my father there. I thought he wasn’t returning until next week.
“Good morning, everyone,” I greeted.
“Good morning, too, Mr. Bonde. Welcome back,” they greeted me.
“Thank you, and let’s start,” I said to them with a smile.
“It’s okay with us, Mr. Bonde. We’re happy about your return. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.” I nodded weakly, lacking any energy.
As I left the conference room, my secretary saw me and noticed that I didn’t say a word. I went straight to my office and slammed the door shut. I sat down in my swivel chair, still unable to get the woman from my dream out of my mind. Who is Lily, and what role does she play in my life?
After a moment, I decided to call Joseph’s number, but he didn’t answer. I then dialed Gilbert’s number, and after only three rings, he picked up.
“Who is Lily in my life?” I asked. Gilbert let out a deep sigh on the other end of the line.
“Why are you asking about her?”
“I don’t know. It feels like she’s something to me, but I can’t understand or explain it,” I replied.
“Arlo, how do I say this… ummm… we wanted to tell you, but your mom asked us not to—” Gilbert’s words were cut short because my phone battery died, and I couldn’t fully understand what he was trying to tell me.
I grabbed my charger from the drawer and quickly charged my phone.
“Come in,” I said when someone knocked on my office door.
I stood up and saw my father enter.
