Lily
I woke up at eight because I couldn’t sleep last night. My mind kept racing. I needed to find a job soon. I couldn’t stay here forever. On Monday, I’d start looking for a new job. I was beginning to feel embarrassed about staying with Violet’s aunt. My savings were almost gone.
I got up, fixed my bed, and took a shower. After getting ready, I opened the window of my small room. When I did, I thought I was seeing things.
Last night, I only saw one car, but now there were three luxury cars. I rubbed my eyes.
What is he doing here? My heart pounded in my chest, and I felt like I was out of breath. I couldn’t understand what was happening to me. He was leaning against his black Ferrari, one hand in the pocket of his white jeans.
His eyes were gazing up at the sky. I thought I’d never see him again.
“Small world, Lily,” I thought to myself.
He had earpods in his ears and was nodding his head as if he were listening to music. If only I could, I would have approached him right where he was standing. Maybe he remembered me, but what could he possibly be doing here?
“Lily!” Katerine called out loudly.
“Oh sh*t!” I cursed under my breath as Arlo turned to where I was. I quickly hid, clutching my chest in surprise. I wanted to peek at him again, but Katerine called me once more. It would’ve been embarrassing if she caught me staring at him earlier.
I felt like my whole body was sweating. Katerine’s eyes were fixed on me, her brows furrowed as if suspicious.
“Lily, what are you doing there?” Katerine asked.
“Ahh, I’m just looking for my small bracelet, Katerine,” I lied.
“Is that so? I thought you were peeking at something outside,” she said, her eyes widening as she looked at me.
“Well, if you’re done looking for your bracelet, just follow me to the kitchen,” Katerine said.
“Yes, Katerine,” I replied, and she left.
I took a deep breath. I peeked out the window again. This time, Arlo and the two cars were gone. I stuck my head further out the window, my eyes searching for the cars. I smirked when I realized Arlo was no longer outside.
“Good morning, Lily. Are you looking for something?” Amara’s loud voice called out.
“Good morning too! No, I’m not looking for anything. I just wanted to breathe some fresh air,” I replied.
She didn’t say anything more and continued sweeping her yard. I wanted to ask her who her visitor was, but I was worried she might think I was being nosy so early in the morning.
After a few moments, I left my small room and went to the kitchen to find Katerine cooking. That was why I got up early—I wanted to be the one to cook breakfast for the two of us.
“Lily, so you’re here. Did you find what you were looking for?” she asked.
“Yes, Katerine.”
“That’s good. Oh, by the way, we’re going somewhere later. Do you want to go for a stroll? The other day, I wasn’t able to take you to Plaza,” Katerine said cheerfully.
“You seem to be in a good mood today, Katerine,” I said as I approached her to see what she was cooking.
“Stop asking so many questions, or it might rain, and we won’t be able to go. Just set the table—put the plates and glasses, and take the fresh juice I made last night out of the fridge.”
“Yes, Katerine.”
I moved quickly, doing everything Katerine had asked me to do. Once I had set everything on the table, I poured fresh juice into her glass and mine. Usually, I preferred coffee, but Katerine forbade me from drinking coffee in the morning. She insisted I rest for an hour after breakfast before having coffee.
Sometimes, I felt like Katerine’s world was the opposite of mine. But I didn’t complain because I was staying in her house for free.
