Dr. Sophia – Chapter 86

Desperation

“Dr. Baker, I apologize on Sophia’s behalf to Miss Olivia…”

Before he could finish, Professor Michael’s phone suddenly rang. He answered it and stepped out of the room, saying, “Sophia, go ahead and take Miss Olivia’s pulse, see how her pulse feels.”

Sophia scoffed softly, a faint smile on her lips as she sat by the bedside, lightly placing her fingers on Olivia’s pulse.

“Hey! You’re just an intern! How can you examine patients?” Dr. Baker frowned, displeased. “Didn’t you hear me? My patient is someone with status. If anything goes wrong, you’ll bear the consequences!”

Unexpectedly, Olivia smiled sweetly. “Dr. Baker, it’s fine. We should give interns some opportunities.”

Dr. Baker responded with a pleased smile. “Miss Olivia, you are truly gracious!” Then, turning to Sophia, she added, “Look at Miss Olivia, so forgiving and understanding. That’s what it means to be truly gracious!”

Even Olivia’s assistant felt a twinge of guilt hearing this.

Sophia let out a small laugh, fixing Olivia with a cool stare.

Was Olivia giving her a chance? It was amusing that Olivia would go through such lengths, creating this entire setup just to come to the hospital for an examination.

Who knew what scheme she was planning this time?

Sophia maintained a composed expression as she took Olivia’s pulse.

Olivia’s pulse was indeed slippery, confirming her pregnancy. It was ironic, as last time Olivia had falsely claimed to be pregnant, Sophia had also taken her pulse and diagnosed her with difficulty conceiving. She hadn’t been wrong, but somehow, Olivia had become pregnant in such a short time, indicating that Scott Henry’s health was certainly robust.

“Miss Smith? Is the child in my belly okay?” Olivia asked sweetly, holding her stomach. “You must take good care of me. The baby I’m carrying is a Scott, my husband’s first child.”

“By the way you’re talking, I thought it was a royal heir.”

Olivia chuckled, touching her stomach.

“Well, it’s better than some who can’t conceive. Don’t you think it’s tragic when a woman can’t bear children, no matter what?”

Sophia remained expressionless and noted as Professor Michael entered the room.

“There’s no major issue; the pulse is just unstable during early pregnancy. Some herbal medicine to strengthen the body should do.”

Professor Michael was about to examine Olivia himself, but Olivia stopped him.

“Professor Michael, I think the intern did a fine job. Just follow her recommendation and have her write me a prescription.”

Professor Michael frowned, as did the others, finding her words odd.

Sophia stared at Olivia for a long time, and under Olivia’s taunting gaze, she calmly wrote down the prescription.

“Sophia, why did you say those things to Olivia?”

As they left the room, her friends questioned her.

Sophia smiled lightly, “Maybe I was just expressing how I felt?”

She hadn’t revealed the truth because she didn’t want others’ sympathy or for them to pry into her personal life. However, her friends seemed to interpret it differently.

“Expressing how you feel? Does that mean Sophia’s husband cheated, and that’s why she resents mistresses?”

“That Olivia is so brazen! Just look at her, always flaunting that ring! I heard the guy’s not even divorced yet—how can she be so shameless?”

Sophia didn’t take Olivia’s taunts seriously.

But she knew Olivia had set a trap for her. Although Sophia wasn’t sure how Olivia would spring it, it was clear that someone like Olivia could easily have an intern dismissed.

Sophia needed to start preparing.

That evening at home, she spent hours researching online, then went through Miss Maggie’s Facebook posts, scrutinizing each one to see who she interacted with and examining the traceable connections in her life.

Miss Maggie’s Facebook was filled with posts—luxury bags, swimsuit photos, designer outfits…

Sophia searched for any small clues.

Suddenly, she found a comment on one of Miss Maggie’s swimsuit photos. Someone had replied beneath it:

“Those legs could keep someone entertained all day.”

Miss Maggie had responded with a smiling face emoji.

Sophia clicked on the account, which seemed to be a dummy profile with only five or six followers.

She noted the username, looked up additional information, and finally shut down her computer to sleep.

The next morning, Sophia got up early for work. Just as she stepped outside, she saw Scott Livinus’s car pulling out of the Scott estate.

The car window rolled down, and Felix peeked out with a smile. “Miss Smith, hop in!”

Sophia glanced at the backseat and nodded.

Scott Livinus was reading through some documents, his head never lifting.

Felix looked back with a grin, “Miss Smith, how’s the internship going?”

“It’s alright.” Sophia smiled. “Assistant Felix, I see dark circles under your eyes. Make sure you get more rest.”

Felix paused, glancing at the thermos Sophia held. He chuckled, having noticed before that Sophia always carried a thermos with her, careful about her diet and avoiding spicy foods. She also kept a strict schedule, going to bed and waking early—Felix had even seen her jogging in the back garden earlier. It was amusing; most women her age stayed up watching dramas, yet she lived like an old soul. Maybe that’s what made these traditional medicine doctors so disciplined?

“Yes, work keeps me busy. I’ll be sure to rest more.” He chuckled again and added, “Miss Smith, is the divorce proceeding smoothly?”

Sophia couldn’t help but smile.

Though Felix was aligned with Scott, he seemed almost eager to see Scott outmaneuvered.

“It’s going fine. Now I just have to wait for the right moment.”

Felix nodded, smiling faintly. “What are your plans after that, Miss Smith?”

Sophia shrugged, “No big plans. Maybe I’ll open a small clinic, grow some vegetables, farm a little, weave some fabric, grow flowers… just live life.”

Felix didn’t expect her to answer that way, and after a pause, he laughed, “That’s quite interesting!”

As the car was about to make a left turn, the driver suddenly braked hard. Caught off guard, Sophia fell to the right, landing squarely in Livinus’s lap.

With another sudden jolt, the car stopped completely. The driver turned back, “Miss Smith, Mr. Scott, are you both alright?”

“Mr. Scott, you…”

Felix turned around and, seeing the situation, looked stunned, caught between shock and amusement.

His face twisted, trying to hold back laughter, but he dared not let it show.

Sophia had, by pure coincidence, fallen right between Livinus’s legs, her entire face buried in his lap.

The scene was, to say the least, quite inappropriate.

It looked suspiciously like she was engaged in a certain… intimate act.
