Dr. Sophia – Chapter 38

Proposal

“Miss Maggie, I’m curious—how did you and Scott Livinus meet?”

Maggie looked a bit flustered, lowering her head shyly. “To be honest, Scott and I have… had a special connection. We’ve been… involved, so it’s only a matter of time before we’re together for good.”

Sophia gave a faint smile. “So he’s aware of all this?”

“Of course, he knows! At first, I didn’t dare tell him, but he came to me himself. We’re just meant to be! I’ve heard that Scott’s always been very reserved, never dating anyone publicly. People say he’s very disciplined, and I think he’s the type who’s serious about relationships. I truly believe I’ll be the one to melt his cold heart and redeem him.”

Sophia almost felt like clapping.

Redeem him? Melt his icy heart?* Maggie seemed to be swept away by her own story.

But the truth was, did he even care? Livinus hadn’t asked for her “redemption.” Maggie was likely only succeeding in convincing herself.

Just then, Felix came down the stairs carrying some paperwork. Seeing Sophia, he greeted her with a smile.

“Dr. Smith, Mr. Scott’s nerve pain has flared up again. He’s hoping you could come by for a checkup.”

Sophia frowned.

Felix continued, “Mr. Scott also mentioned he’ll pay your consultation fee and requests that you please make the time.”

The original message had actually been more blunt: “If she doesn’t come, she’ll deal with the consequences.”

Felix secretly watched Sophia’s reaction. Even though a divorce was in the works, she seemed to be holding up remarkably well. Felix could only hope she’d manage against the Scott family’s formidable legal team. And now, on top of everything, she also had to deal with the tyrant, Scott Livinus. Knowing Scott, Felix couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something different about the way he treated her—there was something unusual about the dynamic between the two of them from the very start.

Sophia considered refusing but knew from experience that Scott wouldn’t take no for an answer. She reluctantly agreed.

Maggie beamed with excitement, taking Sophia’s arm. “Perfect timing! I’ll go with Sophia! I still need to deliver lunch to him.”

Felix hesitated for a moment but decided against saying anything.

Scott Corporation was situated in the heart of the city’s Florida, surrounded by other real estate and tech companies. To own an entire skyscraper in such a prime, high-rent area spoke volumes about Scott Corporation’s financial power.

The building’s design was nothing out of the ordinary, though it was opulently decorated and spotlessly clean. The elevator ride up was exceptionally fast, causing Sophia’s ears to pop slightly as they reached the top floor.

“Felix?” A glamorous woman greeted them.

“Joanna.” Felix returned her nod.

Sophia greeted her with a smile, and Joanna returned it, attempting to be as welcoming as possible.

“Sorry,” Joanna said suddenly, blocking Maggie’s path with her arm. “Miss Maggie, Mr. Scott requested only Miss Smith. Please wait here.”

Maggie froze, frowning. “Joanna, must you always be so annoying?”

“Thank you for the compliment. Unlike the boss, I’m not someone everyone loves and rushes to get close to.”

“You…”

Ignoring her, Sophia walked inside with her medical kit in hand. Scott Livinus was seated behind his grand desk, head down as he scribbled on a document.

“Take a seat,” he said, as indifferent as ever.

Without speaking, Sophia moved to his side, placing her fingers on his wrist. His pulse was steady, and the kidney deficiency was clearly improving. He looked healthy, even radiant. Clearly, all those herbal tonics had done wonders.

He didn’t look remotely like someone suffering from nerve pain.

“You’re not in pain.”

Livinus didn’t seem surprised. “As expected from Dr. Smith.”

Sophia’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Why did you call me here, then? Surely not just to banter. If you’re looking for company, Miss Maggie is waiting outside with a lunchbox. She’d be thrilled to keep you entertained.”

Mr Scott suddenly put down his pen and looked at her with a slight smirk.

“Sophia, am I sensing a bit of jealousy in your voice?”

“Don’t be ridiculous,” she retorted, frowning. “So, why did you call me?”

Scott’s expression shifted as he reached for a file folder and tossed it onto the desk in front of her.

Curious, Sophia opened it.

Her eyes widened in shock.

The file contained information on a well-known divorce attorney. His record was impressive, with details on his cases, prominent clients, and notable settlements he’d secured. Pages and pages were filled with his accomplishments. In the section listing his areas of expertise, one line was highlighted—*specializes in divorce cases*.

Sophia would never admit how much she’d been struggling to find a decent lawyer. She glared at Scott, suspicious. No one does something for nothing. What’s the catch?*

She narrowed her eyes. “I assume you want something in return?”

Scott leaned back, loosening his tie with his long fingers.

“Few people know me so well. You’re right—I never make a deal without profit.”

“What’s your condition?”

Scott abruptly stood, placing both hands on the desk as he leaned in, bringing his face inches from hers. In a low voice, he said, “Join me for lunch.”
