“You’re probably overworked. I’ve noticed you haven’t taken a break all week,” Livinus replied.
“That’s true.”
“Take a few days to relax. If not, I’ll take you on a vacation.”
Sophia wanted to go, but her medical clinic was getting more popular, and she was already overwhelmed with work. If she went on vacation now, the backlog of patients would be unimaginable.
“Forget it. I still have my thesis defense coming up, and I need to focus on graduation. Let’s talk about it after that.”
“Alright.”
The next day, Sophia went to school for her thesis defense.
She had submitted her paper a while ago, and Professor Micheal had praised it highly, even discussing some of the key points with her. He was particularly interested in the traditional palace remedies and techniques she mentioned. Coming from a family of traditional medicine practitioners, she had a strong foundation. Even though she hadn’t excelled in academics before, she had since caught up and surpassed many others.
The defense wasn’t difficult, and she handled it smoothly without any issues.
After it ended, Professor Micheal praised her to the other professors. “This student is truly outstanding…”
He briefly shared some of her background, and the other professors, intrigued by her research, asked her a few questions. Finding her insights refreshing, they approved her thesis without hesitation.
Professor Micheal even suggested nominating her for an Outstanding Thesis Award, but Sophia wasn’t particularly concerned about such things.
She yawned, prompting Barbara to ask, “Why are you yawning so much?”
“I don’t know. I’ve just been really sleepy these days.”
“That’s strange. You’re usually in great health,” Barbara remarked. After observing her for a moment, she lowered her voice and asked, “Sophia, are you and Livinus always using protection?”
Sophia was momentarily stunned before understanding what she meant.
As a medical student, she knew that early pregnancy often caused fatigue and unusual symptoms. And she had been experiencing exactly that.
Now that she thought about it, her period was already twenty days late. She had been so busy that she hadn’t paid attention, but now it seemed entirely possible that she was pregnant.
“But that shouldn’t be possible. We always use condoms.”
Barbara coughed, “Condoms can fail too. They’re not 100% effective.”
Sophia knew this, and she always told her patients the same thing.
But still—those condoms were thick! How could they fail?
Did this mean this batch of condoms was defective? They had used protection every single time!
She was about to take her own pulse when Barbara got there first.
After a moment, Barbara’s face lit up. “Sophia, congratulations! You’re pregnant!”
Hearing this, the other classmates gathered around.
“Sophia is pregnant?”
“Really? Congratulations, Sophia! You’re going to be a mom! And just in time for graduation—you can focus on resting now.”
Jennifer was even more excited, exclaiming, “I’m going to be an aunt! Sophia, Livinus is going to be thrilled about this, right?”
Sophia took her own pulse again, feeling slightly dazed.
She had diagnosed pregnancy in many women before, but she never expected that one day, it would be her.
It was a textbook pregnancy pulse.
She was really having a baby.
This baby was unexpected.
She wasn’t sure whether it was a blessing for her and Livinus.
After all, their relationship was about romance, not long-term commitments.
—
On her way home, she still found it hard to believe. Being pregnant was such a surreal feeling.
She went to Scott Corporation to find Livinus.
When Joanna saw her, he was surprised. “Dr. Sophia, what brings you here?”
“Is he in?”
“President Livinus is in a meeting with the department heads. It’ll take at least another hour. Let me inform him.”
“Thank you, Joanna.”
“No need to be so polite!”
Joanna walked in and whispered something in Livinus’s ear.
In an instant, Livinus’s icy expression softened.
The department heads were taken aback. Just moments ago, he had been furious about the distribution issues with their new herbal tea line, yet now his expression had completely changed.
“Redo the proposal! Meeting dismissed!”
The executives left, murmuring to one another.
“It must be President Livinus’s girlfriend. Last time, she saved us from a scolding too.”
“Yeah, we were expecting a storm, but it turned into sunshine in an instant.”
“Let’s hope she visits more often. It makes our lives much easier.”
Sophia waited until they were gone before entering Livinus’s office.
“What brings you here?” Livinus asked with a smirk, pulling her into his arms.
Sophia smiled, resting her hand on his waist and tracing the firm muscles there.
No matter how long they had been together, she was still fascinated by every inch of his body.
“I have something to tell you.”
“What is it?”
After a brief pause, she hesitated before saying, “I haven’t had my period in a long time.”
Livinus froze for a second before saying in a low voice, “I just realized—we’ve used up five boxes of condoms recently. That means… yeah, it’s been a while. Are you pregnant?”
“What kind of condoms did you buy? The quality is terrible! How could they fail?! The odds of this happening are insane!”
“This just proves that your man is strong, and our child is strong. Even such a thick condom couldn’t stop it—this child is destined to be extraordinary!”
Great! She had just found out she was pregnant, and he was already showing off about their baby.
