But the English paper was excellent!
English had only been included in the college entrance examination for two years, and many students didn’t even know the 26 letters. Regardless of the accuracy, the words were beautifully written, the writer’s pen flowed effortlessly and continuously, almost as if one could see it in the strokes.
Teacher Sophie’s husband was an English teacher.
Teacher Sophie was a Grade 3 English teacher.
The English papers were extremes, which is why the student’s paper was interesting.
Teacher Sophie disliked the English paper; she didn’t know even the basic rote memorization knowledge, what kind of learning attitude was this?
But looking at other questions, Whitaker Scarlett answered quite seriously.
After Teacher Sophie and her husband graded the papers, they both found it strange. On the fourth day after Whitaker Scarlett’s exam, Teacher Sophie finally asked other teachers to grade her papers together.
Looking at the scores, Teacher Sophie was stunned and called Teacher Alex:
“Teacher Alex, did you really keep a close eye on that girl, no cheating?!”
Cheating?
How could she cheat?
Teacher Alex’s round face flushed red with anxiety:
“Teacher Sophie, I didn’t leave her side for a single moment. I even followed her to the restroom and had lunch in the office. Cheating is absolutely impossible!”
Teacher Sophie quickly calmed her agitated junior colleague:
“Don’t worry, I believe you’re a conscientious and responsible teacher. Her score was just…unexpected.”
Confident that Teacher Alex hadn’t been negligent, Teacher Sophie submitted the exam papers and scores to the grade level group. “No one leaked the answers? Then this student can be admitted.”
“Leaked answers? Wasn’t there a diagnostic exam for Grade 3 last Friday? I used that exact exam paper. The questions were set by teachers from each subject. Who could have gotten the answers beforehand?”
Teacher Sophie had taken the exam papers home.
And her husband was an English teacher, yet Whitaker Scarlett scored the highest in English.
But the exam wasn’t set by her husband, and her family had no connection to Whitaker Scarlett. Teacher Sophie, with a clear conscience, believed Whitaker Scarlett couldn’t have obtained the answers in advance.
Her expression was priceless:
“She finished junior high and self-studied at home?”
Whitaker Scarlett lost points primarily in subjects requiring rote memorization, like English and Politics. Her Biology score was also poor, but Biology only accounts for a small portion of the total score. However, with focused cramming, English and Politics scores could be significantly improved. Not to mention, if her abysmal Politics score were improved, and the points she should have gotten in English were added, Whitaker Scarlett’s total score could easily be 40 points higher!
40 points!
She grinned. Even if she self-studied, they’d take her.
In the end, as long as she passed, who cared if she self-studied? All anyone would know is that she passed County East High School entrance exam, boosting their admission rate!
She carefully put Whitaker Scarlett’s exam paper away:
“Quickly, notify this student!”
“She was recommended by Carson from Class 3…”
“Then let’s ask Carson to guide us!”
Teachers these days were quite responsible.
A few years after the restoration of the college entrance examination, the teaching standards of County East High School might not match those in big cities, but the majority of teachers’ professional ethics were impeccable. Getting into university could change a person’s life. Some candidates retook the exam year after year, never giving up. Now that a promising candidate had appeared, the school wouldn’t let her go.
Carson was summoned. Teacher Alex and Teacher Sophie couldn’t wait for Carson to go home for the holiday; they immediately set off to Wellwater village to find Whitaker Scarlett.
Along the way, the teacher kept asking about Whitaker Scarlett, such as why she didn’t go to school before and how she studied at home. Carson knew nothing. He was completely unaware of Whitaker Scarlett’s past in Larkspur Village. Perhaps Whitaker Scarlett had indeed diligently self-studied after dropping out of junior high?
Judging by the teachers’ demeanor, Scarlett must have passed the school’s entrance exam.
He remained tight-lipped about Whitaker Scarlett’s exact score.
“You’ll know when we get to her house.”
The two teachers, accompanied by Carson, rode their bicycles towards Wellwater village, Carson brimming with curiosity.
