Destined to Rise – Chapter 80

Multinational

Whitaker Scarlett had taken the college entrance examination before.

Her academic performance wasn’t bad then. Although she didn’t get into what would later be considered a top 10 university, she was accepted into a key university. She could have done better, but her parents had passed away early, and she had to worry about tuition and living expenses while studying, so her mind wasn’t fully focused on her studies, and she only got into an average key university.

Even worse, she lacked guidance when choosing her major and selected a cheap, unpopular one, making it difficult to find a job after graduation, forcing her to start as a salesperson who didn’t pick and choose jobs, and she went through many detours before becoming a senior executive of a multinational corporation—there was no other way; she took the college entrance examination in 1995, and in 1996, the state abolished the policy of assigning jobs to university graduates, so Whitaker Scarlett had to find her own way.

Whitaker Scarlett planned to take the 1984 college entrance examination, but she couldn’t even remember the 1995 exam questions, let alone those from 11 years earlier! If she had known about reincarnation, she would have memorized every exam paper she had ever practiced!

After her rebirth, Whitaker Scarlett tried to avoid recalling things from her past life.

This time and space was indeed the same as her past life. At least the national leaders and various backgrounds hadn’t changed. Did that mean that the original her also lived in this time and space?

“Whitaker Scarlett” was 18 years old this year, born in 1965.

She was born in 1977, only 6 years old this year, the same age as Michael. Following the trajectory of her past life, her parents had already passed away, and she lived with relatives. Whitaker Scarlett suddenly felt an urge; she should go and see as soon as possible. If she could find “herself,” she would definitely take care of her!

In the evening, Elizabeth put away her divorce certificate. Whitaker Scarlett had comforted her all day, and Elizabeth seemed quite composed.

“When you go to the city, let Mom go somewhere else to collect eels. Let’s save up money quickly and build our own house.”

Farmers depended on the land for their livelihood. Whitaker Scarlett hadn’t mentioned settling in HarborfieldCity yet, but Uncle Daniel agreed to move their household registrations back to Larkspur Village, allocate them land, and it wouldn’t be difficult to get a small plot of land to build a house. With a house and land, they would have their own foundation. Elizabeth didn’t even care about the shame of divorce; her heart was filled with the idea of earning money together with her daughter and having their own home soon.

That would be her home, where she wouldn’t have to watch the faces of her in-laws.

Where she wouldn’t have to lower her voice to speak for fear of being overheard.

Elizabeth was filled with anticipation just thinking about it.

Whitaker Scarlett didn’t argue with her; it was good to give her mother something to do. The autumn heat wasn’t that intense; collecting eels in this weather was just tiring walking.

“Then I’ll give you some money.”

Whitaker Scarlett took out all her belongings.

Initially, her capital was only a little over seventy Dollars.

After doing business for ten days, the biggest expense was buying a schoolbag for her cousin, followed by some eggs that were broken when she was harassed by the thugs. She earned an average of 10 Dollars a day selling eggs, and had only gone to the city to sell eels twice, each time making a profit of over 20 Dollars. The cost of adding oil, salt, soy sauce, and other seasonings to the house wasn’t much, and occasionally buying some meat was only a matter of two or three Dollars.

Whitaker Scarlett was definitely not stingy, but she turned small money into big money, and with her principal and interest, she now had 156 Dollars. This didn’t include the eels and eggs she had on hand. The eels she was taking to HarborfieldCity tomorrow alone weighed nearly 60 pounds, and she had 300 eggs.

Her total assets exceeded 200 Dollars.

Her risk tolerance was still too low. Whitaker Scarlett kept only 50 Dollars for herself and gave the rest to her mother.

“As long as the purchase price doesn’t exceed 90 cents per pounds, we can make money. I think by the end of the month, we can repay Uncle’s money.”

Paying back the money was fine now, but Whitaker Scarlett was thinking that with her abundant capital, she wanted to resell some other things from the city. Elizabeth was already astonished to hear her calculating profits; she had earned so much money in ten days. Money was so easy to earn… Scarlett worked so hard, she, as her mother, couldn’t hold her back.
