Whitaker Scarlett thinks she can use this box of cigarettes as a sweetener to pave the way. It’s hard to say how big of a leader she can charm, but getting the business license should be no problem. Saying it’s for her uncle, how could William possibly smoke sixty packs?
Even an old smoker who smokes a pack a day would take two years to finish that. Kay clearly left it for Whitaker Scarlett to make gift-giving easier.
“Colorful Butterfly” can’t be bought in Harborfield, yet the people there have a preference for it. Receiving such a hard-to-get gift will surely put the recipient in a good mood when it comes to doing business.
Whitaker Scarlett doesn’t want money, but she can’t really have no economic ties with Kay.
A box of cigarettes, she’ll just accept it.
Whitaker Scarlett took twelve packs of cigarettes back to the countryside, giving two to the village head, Uncle daniel, and placing ten on William’s table.
William sighed, “That kid isn’t reliable; your uncle is worried you’ll be deceived.”
How fresh! Whitaker Scarlett isn’t afraid of being deceived herself. She has been tricked many times; after being fooled again and again, she learned to stand up again, which led to her previous life as “President Whitaker.”
In romantic relationships, there’s no one deceiving the other. She isn’t relying on Kay for a comfortable life; if they enjoy each other’s company, they’ll be together; if not, they’ll part ways.
But she can’t tell William about her advanced views on relationships; her uncle would insist on teaching her to start over.
“Let’s just date for now; after all, we don’t see each other often. I really like Kay right now.”
Whitaker Scarlett looked eagerly at her uncle, but William didn’t budge.
Amanda tried to mediate, “Marriage is a big deal; isn’t it better to date first and see if it’s suitable?”
Whitaker Scarlett clung to her aunt’s arm and shook it. William temporarily set aside the matter of Kay, “Why did you run back here? Isn’t business busy? I was going to wait for Micheal’s break to take him to Harborfield, but I didn’t expect you to come back first.”
“I want Aunt to partner with me to open a store.”
Amanda was quite tempted by the idea of partnering to open a clothing store, but William didn’t want to take advantage of his niece and had previously rejected the idea.
“Is your capital insufficient? I can lend you some.”
William had taken back 5,000 dollars and hadn’t thought of what business to do with it. Plus, since he was still recovering from his injuries, he could lend the money to Whitaker Scarlett.
Whitaker Scarlett wasn’t there to ask for money; she already had over 3,000 dollars. After one more trip to Sablewick, it would be enough to get the store opened.
“If Aunt doesn’t help, I really can’t find suitable people.”
Amanda shook her head, “I have to take care of your cousin…”
William felt a bit soft-hearted. Everyone knows what kind of person his sister Elizabeth is. It’s fine to have Elizabeth do hard work, but she really can’t help with a business like a clothing store that relies on dealing with people and talking.
If Whitaker Scarlett said she wanted to make money for the family, William felt he shouldn’t have to rely on his niece for help.
But when Whitaker Scarlett pitifully said she had no one to help her, William’s heart softened.
But isn’t it true that no one is helping? Elizabeth can’t step up, and the Whitaker family is full of selfish people. Scarlett has to bear the burden of supporting the two of them; it’s a heavy load.
William actually doesn’t want to stay in Wellwater village. He used to be someone who made a lot of money; he has no patience for digging food from the ground with a hoe. If Whitaker Scarlett and Elizabeth move to Harborfield, William wants to go too. He still has a traditional view and wants to take care of his sister and niece.
“Your aunt can partner with you in business, but what about your cousin’s schooling?”
Whitaker Scarlett thought for a moment, “We still need to find a suitable store, and the decoration will take some time. During this time, I’ll try to find a primary school in Harborfield for borrowing. Actually, it’s just right for Micheal to go to school in Harborfield now; he’s only in first grade, and the primary schools there can provide him with a solid foundation!”
The partnership was thus agreed upon.
Whitaker Scarlett first returned the 300 dollars Amanda had lent her. Amanda didn’t want her share of the profits, saying that the two of them hadn’t really partnered before.
Whitaker Scarlett also took a step back; anyway, what was agreed upon today was a partnership, and they would share the profits in the future.
Whitaker Scarlett could put out 3,000 dollars, and William thought for a moment and decided to contribute 2,000 dollars:
“This store will still be primarily yours; you call the shots. If the money isn’t enough, just ask your uncle for more.”
Amanda also had a fiery personality.
Once it was decided to partner with Whitaker Scarlett, her heart flew to the commercial capital.
Since Grandma Johnson didn’t want new tenants, Whitaker Scarlett would definitely help her uncle’s family of three find a place to stay. For this matter, she would turn to Hughes Lawrence’s wife, who was quite familiar with the process.
“Don’t look too far away; it doesn’t matter if it’s a bungalow or an apartment.”
