Destined to Rise – Chapter 173

Own Dialect

She planned to report her success to her daughter after the matter was settled.

Looking at the foolish Helen, Maria curled her lips:

“You said last time that Scarlett was doing well. It seems her uncle really treats her well, and your  uncle can rest assured… Don’t tell your  uncle about Scarlett studying at County County East High School for now. Giving him hope and then disappointing him is worse than letting him be happy when she actually gets into college!”

Helen didn’t think much of it. Whitaker Scarlett getting into college?

Her uncle was destined not to hear that good news.

But Helen also had her own calculations. The Whitaker family currently disliked Whitaker Scarlett. If they heard that she was studying at County East High School and preparing for the college entrance exam, would their attitude towards her change?

Back then, Rosalie was also a good student, and Grandma especially liked her. Everyone in the family doted on her.

Whitaker Scarlett didn’t deserve the treatment Rosalie enjoyed!

Maria and Helen each had their own thoughts, but they both didn’t want Whitaker Scarlett to get into college.

Maria had done something wrong, while Helen was jealous and resentful.

Principal Ben, influenced by his wife, also had a bad impression of Whitaker Scarlett.

Hearing that she was Rosalie’s cousin, he thought she had just been admitted to County East High School.  But after checking “Whitaker Scarlett,” he discovered that she was actually a transfer student in the graduating class.

“She scored 446 points on the transfer exam, which was one of our mock exam papers.”

“She’s a pretty resilient girl. Her parents are divorced, and she lives with her uncle and has to support her family, so she can’t come to school every day.”

“Principal Ben, I suggest the school provide some financial aid to allow Whitaker Scarlett to focus on her studies.  Getting into a key university next year shouldn’t be a problem!”

Principal Ben thought he would hear complaints about a bad student, but George and Teacher Sophie from the Grade 3 group praised Whitaker Scarlett.

“Nonsense, she can’t be skipping school like that…”

Principal Ben was angry that Whitaker Scarlett didn’t cherish her learning talent.

She could score over 400 points without attending school regularly. How much could she score if she attended regularly?

Principal Ben forgot his original purpose. He went through Whitaker Scarlett’s exam papers and thought George and the others were messing around, actually agreeing to Whitaker Scarlett’s condition of not attending school regularly.

George was helpless, “Her scores on the regular tests are quite stable. Her score on the recent mock exam even improved by 30 points. If we don’t agree to her conditions, she’ll transfer to County West High School.”

Before Whitaker Scarlett’s second trip to Sablewick , she came to school to take the unified mock exam.

She still worked so fast, leaving blank the questions she didn’t know and answering the ones she did. She finished the seven subjects’ papers in a few hours. The results came out, 30 points higher than her first transfer exam. Whitaker Scarlett had taken two transfer exams, scoring 446 points the first time and 457 points the second time. This mock exam, she was amazing, scoring 478 points… beating many repeaters and current students, making it into the top ten of the grade.

Top ten in the grade was nothing. George valued her so much because Whitaker Scarlett’s progress was astonishing.

She was getting better each time. How high would Whitaker Scarlett score in the college entrance exam?

“No cheating?”

Principal Ben was dubious.

George chuckled, “He was the invigilator for the transfer exam, and that young comrade is very reliable.”

Principal Ben’s doubts vanished.

The new young female teacher at  County East High School, was Principal Ben’s niece.

Not many people knew this, and Principal Ben hadn’t revealed their relationship. George was one of the few who knew.

It was impossible to cheat with Alex as the invigilator. Principal Ben slammed his hand on the table:

“We have to keep her. Transfer to County West High School? County West High School can’t teach a good student!”

Principal Ben was so excited that he even cursed in their own dialect., and Principal Ben looked down on  County West High School.  Principal Ben considered himself a cultured person, but he didn’t care about his image when he got emotional. George curiously asked, “Why did you suddenly ask about Whitaker Scarlett?”

Principal Ben was rather embarrassed and couldn’t say that he was scared off by the Whitaker family’s rustic gifts.

But the Whitaker family’s gifts weren’t meant to get Principal Ben to expel Whitaker Scarlett. Did they really want to take care of Whitaker Scarlett?
