Leo pulled out a few banknotes from the stack, perhaps a dozen, and handed them to the waiter: “It’s really not easy to have a meal. Keep the tip, can I see the purchasing manager?”
Huh?
The fact that they didn’t have bear paws, monkey head mushrooms, and flying dragons, what did the purchasing manager, Parker Jace, have to do with it?
The waiter looked at Leo’s serious face, then at the generous tip, and suddenly understood: They weren’t here to cause trouble for the hotel but for the purchasing manager, Parker Jace!
The Yellow River Hotel allowed tips; it didn’t violate any policies as long as the guests were willing to give them.
So she could take this money, right?
Calling Parker Jace out wouldn’t put any pressure on her, she didn’t like Parker Jace anyway.
Parker Jace was completely bewildered. Guests who came to the Yellow River Hotel to eat sometimes wanted to see the chef, but they had never wanted to see him, the purchasing manager. But Parker Jace hadn’t done anything wrong, he rarely even took bribes because of his pride, so he had nothing to be nervous about, and he came to see them.
He didn’t know Kay and Leo, but these two young men were exceptionally outstanding.
“You’re Parker Jace, right? Sit down, I have a few things to talk to you about.”
Kay had an air of authority about him. Parker Jace was usually a little arrogant, but Kay’s arrogance wasn’t outwardly displayed, but it was ingrained in his bones. To put it bluntly, Parker Jace, who was used to showing off, encountered Kay, who didn’t need to show off to be impressive, and his aura immediately faltered, and he couldn’t help but follow Kay’s lead.
Parker Jace sat down, telling himself that the other party was a guest of the hotel, and he would just listen.
Kay’s next words almost made Parker Jace, who had just sat down, jump up again:
“I’m Whitaker Scarlett’s boyfriend.”
Whitaker Scarlett’s boyfriend?
Parker Jace couldn’t believe it.
He didn’t want to accept this fact, but Kay didn’t seem to be joking. Yes, Kay was handsome, and he could afford to eat at the Yellow River Hotel, so he wasn’t an ordinary person. Parker Jace’s heart was breaking, he gritted his teeth and denied:
“I don’t believe it, Scarlett never mentioned you…”
Kay looked at him as if he were an idiot, “Why would Scarlett mention me to you? Whether you believe it or not doesn’t matter. I came to the hotel for two reasons: first, to thank you for taking care of Scarlett, and second, to ask you to control your mother… She insulted Scarlett in the street, and I have a very bad impression of her. Dealing with women isn’t my habit, especially older women.”
Parker Jace’s heart felt like someone had shoved a sour lemon into it.
—Kay had come to declare his sovereignty!
Parker Jace had yet to digest the fact that Whitaker Scarlett had a partner, and his heart twisted again.
His mother cursed Scarlett on the street.
How could she do such a thing?
Parker Jace hadn’t heard it with his own ears, but he could guess it must have been quite harsh; otherwise, Kay wouldn’t have come knocking.
Parker Jace understood how domineering his mother could be, but Caroline had always seemed supportive of him and Scarlett at home. She had even agreed to arrange a job for Scarlett before, but when Scarlett said she wanted to go to university and stopped selling eels, the job arrangement naturally fell through.
Parker Jace’s face flushed red. Did his mother say something hurtful to Scarlett, which made her refuse to come to the Yellow River Hotel anymore? Back then, he knew Scarlett didn’t have a partner.
This partner must be new. Parker Jace’s mind was a mess, and he unconsciously defended himself:
“It’s impossible! My mom isn’t that kind of person… There must be a misunderstanding!”
Kay was quite impatient. “I heard it with my own ears; how could there be a misunderstanding? Comrade Parker Jace, I’m just letting you know, if you can’t rein in your mother, I’ll have to handle this my own way.”
He was just here to notify, to assert his claim, and to give the Parker family a chance.
This kid in front of him was eyeing his wife, and Kay was not one to be easily fooled in such matters. Yet, to maintain his image in Whitaker Scarlett’s eyes, he had to pretend to be magnanimous and composed.
A stack of big unity bills was 1,000 dollars, and there was still about 800 or 900 left on the table.
Leo clicked his tongue twice and pointed at the remaining money, saying, “Your mom said that my sister-in-law Scarlett seduced you to sell eels to the hotel. I wonder if this money is enough for the Yellow River Hotel to pay for the goods Scarlett provided. The way your mom put it makes it sound disgusting. You keep this; it’s a thank-you fee from my brother.”
This kid Leo was just short of saying it was a tip for Parker Jace.
His rival came to his workplace, flaunting, and even gave him a “tip”?
Parker Jace couldn’t stand this insult!
But Kay had already run out of patience; he and Leo stood up.
Both were tall, robust men, and Parker Jace didn’t even have the advantage of height.
