Destined to Rise – Chapter 150

Incident

Kay thought to himself that William knew his background; there was no need for men to put on airs. The more sincere, the better. But female elders generally preferred mature and steady men, so he certainly couldn’t continue to be reckless in front of Amanda.

The four of them drove straight to the commercial city.

Kay was such a clever person; he casually chatted along the way, steering the conversation off course. Amanda jumped into the pit herself, saying she wanted to find Scarlett to go to the hospital together, likely to get Scarlett and Elizabeth on the same side to stop William from earning that dangerous money again.

William watched his wife, following Kay’s line of thought, and cleanly sold out Scarlett’s new address.

What a foolish wife!

William silently pounded his chest in frustration, but it was of no use.

The truck stopped in front of Grandma Johnson’s house, and Amanda went up to knock on the door. Elizabeth opened it.

“Big Brother, you’re back?”

William grunted in response, naturally needing to introduce Kay and Leo. Once he mentioned his injury, Elizabeth would surely shed tears too. Grandma Johnson had many rules, and Elizabeth couldn’t just lead everyone into the house casually.

However, she wasn’t in the mood to entertain; they definitely needed to take William to the hospital first.

Scarlett hadn’t shown up at all, and when Amanda asked, Elizabeth said Scarlett had gone to Greenfield County today.

“There’s an exam at school today; she went to school for a bit and plans to go to Sablewick. She even bought her train ticket for tomorrow…”

Leo felt a bit sorry for Kay. Was today destined to be a day when he wouldn’t meet his future sister-in-law?

Kay learned Scarlett’s address in the city, and his impatience faded. He memorized the door number of Grandma Johnson’s house, didn’t mention seeing Scarlett, and really took William to the People’s Hospital in the commercial city for a check-up, running around to help a lot. Not to mention Amanda was extremely grateful, even Elizabeth had a great impression of him.

On the road, the car environment wasn’t great, and although Kay used it as an excuse, William’s wound situation really wasn’t good.

The doctor administered anti-inflammatory medication and advised William to rest.

After a series of commotions at the hospital, it was already late. Kay discussed with William that everyone should stay at the guesthouse tonight.

Elizabeth disagreed, “Scarlett must have returned home from Greenfield; I need to go back and check.”

Kay was particularly sincere, “Then I’ll take you back, Auntie.”

Elizabeth felt embarrassed, “It’s so late; I don’t want to trouble you. I’ll walk back myself; I know the way.”

“It’s just a matter of stepping on the gas, Auntie, don’t be polite with me. To be honest, when I see you, I feel particularly close. You and my mom really resemble each other. I’ve been away for a long time and haven’t spoken to my mom; I miss her.”

With Kay saying this, how could Elizabeth refuse?

Soft-hearted Elizabeth had already imagined Kay as a young man struggling to make a living, unable to return home often.

William cursed Kay for being shameless in his heart, while Leo felt dizzy; Kay was too good at talking nonsense. Elizabeth was dark and thin, clearly an honest rural woman. Kay’s mother was now a dignified lady of high status; Kay was good-looking, just like his mother.

As Kay drove back to Johnson’s house, the dim streetlights rang with a tinkling sound.

Scarlett rode her bicycle, emerging from the halo of the streetlight, her fair little face and the two casually tied braids were so playful and cute.

She saw a truck parked at the door, and the license plate number was very familiar.

“Kay?”

“Comrade Scarlett!”

Kay strode over, suppressing the impulse to hug Scarlett, having already exhausted his acting skills for the latter half of his life.

“What are you doing here?”

Scarlett thought to herself, why are you stealing my lines?

Not only did he steal her lines, but he also seriously called her Comrade Scarlett. Had Kay hit his head?

Elizabeth got out of the back seat, and William and Amanda appeared. Scarlett was confused about what was happening, but William knew the situation well. Elizabeth and Amanda were puzzled, “Scarlett, do you know Kay?”

Huh? So, should she act like she didn’t know Kay now?

Scarlett blinked at Kay, hoping for a hint.

Kay felt her fluttering eyelashes were about to melt his heart; for a moment, he even couldn’t help but want to confess to Elizabeth and Amanda, saying he had his eyes on Scarlett and couldn’t wait to marry her.

William pinched his nose to cover for Kay and Scarlett:

“Scarlett, you know Kay… the two enthusiastic comrades who helped you home when you sprained your ankle, it must be Kay and Leo, right?”

William was the most aware of the situation because Amanda and Elizabeth didn’t know about Scarlett almost being assaulted by a thug. Now that the matter had passed, revealing it would only worry them.

With William’s words, Scarlett knew how to respond.

It seemed her mom and aunt still didn’t know about the thug incident, but Uncle said he wouldn’t be back for two months. How did she end up with Kay again?
