Destined to Rise – Chapter 141

Perspective

William’s disbelief was written all over his face.

He had concluded that Kay was his colleague, a smuggling boss who had killed people and seen blood!

“Uncle, I am an active-duty soldier.”

You’re kidding, right?!

“Scarlett, you’re back?”

Rarely having a day off at home, Whitaker Scarlett sent Micheal to school. Passing by Harris’s house, she was stopped by Carson, his face beaming with joy.

“Mm, school’s off for the weekend? How did you find the review materials I gave you?”

Whitaker Scarlett hadn’t seen Carson for several days. Before leaving Greenfield County, she had given him some of her own summarized materials.  Without a tutor, it was hard to say whether Carson had benefited from them.

“The materials are very useful. Your memory method for memorizing vocabulary is especially effective. Although I haven’t been studying for long, as long as I persevere, I’m sure I’ll make great progress… Scarlett, someone stopped me at the school gate yesterday and said some unpleasant things.”

Carson felt like a gossip, but since someone was maliciously slandering Whitaker Scarlett, he couldn’t keep quiet; otherwise, how would Scarlett be vigilant?

“Was it a young girl?”

Whitaker Scarlett suspected it was Helen.

Whitaker Chris wasn’t very bright, and Veronica and Helen weren’t necessarily smart either; they were merely pawns in others’ hands. Truly intelligent people always hide behind the scenes, reaping the benefits while maintaining a good reputation. For example, Rosalie and her family. Rosalie’s younger brother is only 10 years old, too young to tell, but whether it’s Rosalie, Whitaker Albert, or Maria, they are all clever members of the Whitaker Family!

Carson was surprised, “You actually know her?”

“Why wouldn’t I? It should be my cousin! The Whitaker Family wouldn’t want me to live a good life, but I’m determined to prove them wrong and make them swallow their resentment!”

Whitaker Scarlett spoke lightly, but to Carson, it seemed like a huge deal, while to her, it was insignificant.

“But if she talks nonsense to others…”

Carson didn’t want Whitaker Scarlett’s reputation to be damaged. Young people have clear-cut right and wrong. The Whitaker Family’s nonsense was simply bullying the Liu family for being small. If the Whitaker Family thought that way, they were wrong. The people of Wellwater Village were united, and the whole village was Whitaker Scarlett’s backing – Carson had the confidence to say so!

Whitaker Scarlett had her own plans and didn’t want to elaborate to Carson, so she vaguely said:

“I know you’re concerned about me, but the top priority now is to focus on studying for next year’s college entrance examination. Don’t waste your energy on irrelevant people. As for me? A clear conscience fears no accusations. As long as the County East High School teachers don’t revoke my exam eligibility, I don’t think the Whitaker Family has the power to stop my education!”

Carson was stunned.

The broad-mindedness Whitaker Scarlett displayed made Carson feel ashamed.

To be disturbed by a little gossip?

The Whitaker Family didn’t have that right!

“The school values you highly. As long as your grades remain stable, no one in County East High School can bring you down!”

Carson’s thinking had suddenly become clear.

The Whitaker Family’s deliberate smear campaign against Whitaker Scarlett was useless. Whitaker Scarlett could get into a university, maybe even a key university. The school would naturally protect the interests of its good students. With County East High School on Whitaker Scarlett’s side, what use was the Whitaker Family’s jumping around?

A peasant family from Larkspur Village could neither influence the decision of County East High School nor prevent Whitaker Scarlett from taking the college entrance examination next year.

If Whitaker Scarlett got into university, her future job would be assigned by the state… The Whitaker Family could only stomp their feet on the sidelines.  Dissatisfied? They’d have to swallow it!

Even if the Whitaker Family had a female college graduate, a figure as important as a golden phoenix in the countryside, once she left the Whitaker Family and Larkspur Village, Rosalie, without any official position, what could she do to harm Whitaker Scarlett?

Carson wasn’t stupid. He had a grandfather with rich life experience. In Greenfield County’s educational environment, Carson had the potential to get into university, and his IQ was above average. But however smart he was, he was still a rural youth who had never left Greenfield County. His limited perspective restricted his thinking. He wanted to help Whitaker Scarlett, and his solution was to use force to subdue the Whitaker Family.
