What had she said wrong? It was all true, yet the people at County East High School were being rude to her. It was unbelievable; had Whitaker Scarlett given them some kind of mind-control drug?
Helen, feeling indignant, stamped her foot and ran back to Maria snack shop.
Originally, she had intended to complain to Maria, but her eyes darted around, and she had a different idea, temporarily not mentioning seeing Whitaker Scarlett.
Maria’s expression wasn’t good either.
Rogers Lucia had just provoked her again, saying that Helen was lazy. Although there weren’t many customers in the shop just now, it gave them a chance to clean the tables, floor, and wash dishes. Helen, however, threw down her rag and ran to the gate of County East High School.
“Inefficient at work, but plenty of ideas, just very clumsy, her thoughts are written all over her face.”
It’s fine for a young woman to want a good partner, but before trying to eat swan meat, she should see if she’s a toad, right?
Helen is ordinary-looking, has no special skills, is a rural resident, and has a low level of education. What can she use to charm those prospective university students? Even if she wants to target someone, she should first find out which ones have a real chance of getting into university. She stares at every County East High School boy who comes to the snack shop with shining eyes… Some of the more shy ones are almost scared away by Helen.
Maria really wanted to fire Helen.
She eats for free and gets in the way. If she stays in the shop for a long time and has something inappropriate with a boy, and the boy’s parents come to the door, will Maria still be able to do business?
“Helen, don’t go wandering around the school gate all the time. Be a good girl, don’t learn from Scarlett.”
Maria spoke earnestly.
Helen nodded absentmindedly, thinking that Whitaker Scarlett didn’t seem to be affected by her reputation; she also got into County East High School.
Helen waited and waited, keeping an eye on the gate of County East High School.
After almost three hours, she finally saw Whitaker Scarlett… A tall, thin, dark-skinned boy escorted Whitaker Scarlett to the gate. Whitaker Scarlett waved to him, and the boy reluctantly returned to school.
The fire in Helen’s heart burned even stronger. It was just as she had thought; Whitaker Scarlett had found a new boyfriend at County East High School. Who was this boy? Did his family have a lot of influence? Why did Director Elliot and the gatekeeper speak up for Whitaker Scarlett earlier?
Helen decided to find out.
She threw down her rag and ran out to follow Whitaker Scarlett.
Maria was so angry her chest felt tight, and Rogers Lucia suppressed a laugh. Brother-in-law Whitaker Albert was petty; he wanted to keep a Whitaker family member in the shop to guard against her and Jude, but this niece Helen was too incompetent, always embarrassing Whitaker Albert.
Helen disappeared like an eel, and Maria thought, I can’t take it anymore; I must send her back to Larkspur Village.
…
Whitaker Scarlett deliberately walked slowly.
She liked to use the social strategies of later generations; the more polite you are, the less likely you are to offend people. The gatekeeper of County East High School, Peter, had also received cigarettes from her.
Peter had just told her that someone claiming to be her cousin had been causing trouble at the school gate, warning her to be careful, and saying that this cousin worked at Maria snack shop near the school gate.
Maria’s snack shop?
Whitaker Scarlett had noticed it when she first came to County East High School.
The shop’s location was excellent, and business was naturally very good. Whitaker Scarlett had felt quite regretful at the time; she had considered opening a similar shop specializing in snacks, managed by Elizabeth. Making snacks was certainly hard work, but it didn’t involve exposure to the elements, and it was easier than reselling oil residue. If Elizabeth opened a snack shop, Whitaker Scarlett would have to stop reselling oil residue; she planned to use that business to repay the Harris Family’s kindness… Unfortunately, the good location at the gate of County East High School was already taken.
Whitaker Scarlett temporarily put the idea aside. If Greenfield County didn’t work out, she would open a shop for Elizabeth in HarborfieldCity or Windford City later.
It didn’t necessarily have to be a snack shop; the amount of money earned was secondary; the main thing was to give Elizabeth a place to focus her energy.
Someone grabbed her from behind.
“…Whitaker Scarlett, I’ve got you!”
It was indeed Helen.
Her tone and demeanor were just as annoying as Whitaker Scarlett remembered.
