“I’ll only go two more times, it won’t delay important matters.”
Kay gave Leo an explanation.
He wasn’t one to explain himself to anyone, but Leo was in the know, and Kay only told him because he saw his stress.
In Kay’s opinion, a man’s prospects didn’t necessarily depend on the military or a political career. However, his family had high hopes for him. Kay had been sent to the army at the age of fifteen, and he couldn’t just throw away his military uniform on a whim.
While he had the time, he might as well spend more time with his future wife.
Kay packed his things and told Leo to get ready; they would leave tomorrow.
Leo was both happy and apprehensive.
He was happy to be able to feast again with Kay, but apprehensive that the Watson family would have no way to deal with Kay and would take it out on him.
The Watson family had high standards; would they accept Whitaker Scarlett?
Leo considered this; the possibility was extremely low. Forget about a marriage alliance; the Watson family would certainly have requirements for Kay’s partner, and Whitaker Scarlett’s background, no matter how you looked at it, didn’t meet the Watson family’s standards for a daughter-in-law. His own family’s situation was more or less the same; his father was dead, his grandparents couldn’t control him, his mother might object, but Leo was confident he could handle it.
Stop, stop, what am I thinking? No matter how beautiful she is, she’s my future sister-in-law.
Leo was quite amusing; he thought the Watson family wouldn’t accept Whitaker Scarlett, yet he had been brainwashed by Kay – whatever Kay wanted to do, he always succeeded, and Leo had blind faith in him.
Kay stuffed the things for Whitaker Scarlett under the bed. “Any progress on the investigation I asked you to do?”
Kay had asked Leo to investigate Whitaker Rosalie.
” Whitaker Rosalie, the college student from Greenfield County… she’s studying in Washington, at Washington Normal University.”
Leo scoffed, he thought she’d gotten into Star University!
Whitaker Rosalie had been practically put on a pedestal, but Leo didn’t think much of it. He didn’t want to go to university, and even if he did, he wouldn’t be assigned to Washington Normal University. As the son of a martyr, even if the Howard family was struggling, Leo should still receive some preferential treatment.
” Whitaker Rosalie’s boyfriend is also at Washington Normal University… and we both know him, it’s Walter Janson.”
Names like Walter and Rogers were too common, andwas a very common surname. Initially, the name Walter Janson didn’t attract Leo’s attention, but since he was investigating Whitaker Rosalie, he naturally had to check out the supposed future brother-in-law Whitaker Scarlett had allegedly seduced in broad daylight.
The investigation was interesting; it turned out to be Walter Janson, whom he knew. The world was small.
The Watson family, Howard, and Janson families had once been similar. Now the Watson family was the most successful, the Howard family slightly less so, and the Janson family had been ostracized years ago. Walter Janson was a bit older than them, and they hadn’t played together as children. After the Janson family’s downfall, Leo heard that Walter Janson had been demoted. He hadn’t thought much of it, but now he had news of Walter Janson again under these circumstances.
” Walter Janson?”
Kay hadn’t seen him since the Janson family’s downfall and had almost forgotten what he looked like.
He certainly wasn’t as handsome as him.
Kay immediately felt less concerned.
He remembered Walter Janson as quite arrogant, looking down on people. After a few years in the countryside, had he changed at all?
Kay was confident; compared to him, Scarlett would definitely choose him.
“Knowing about these two is enough, no need to worry about them for now.”
Kay wouldn’t forget anyone who had bullied his wife, but how to deal with these two, he would leave it to Whitaker Scarlett’s decision. Whitaker Rosalie was different from Wesley; Wesley was a scoundrel, but Whitaker Rosalie was Scarlett’s cousin. Kay just felt something was off, he didn’t know exactly what Whitaker Rosalie had done.
He would investigate slowly; none of them would escape.
…
Whitaker Scarlett didn’t know she had a backer.
Even if she did, she wouldn’t rely on Kay. Mountains crumble, people leave, who can you rely on for a lifetime? Only yourself.
After paying the grain tax, the farmers couldn’t really rest. In a few days, they would sow wheat and rapeseed; the land needed to be leveled, Amanda still had a lot of work to do, and she wouldn’t let Whitaker Scarlett help, saying Whitaker Scarlett’s hands were for pens, not for hoes.
“With your business, it’s just you and your mother, can you manage?”
Amanda not only stopped Whitaker Scarlett from helping, but she also worried about Whitaker Scarlett’s business. Now Elizabeth was delivering goods to Harborfield, and Whitaker Scarlett collected goods during the day and studied at night. When Elizabeth wasn’t delivering goods, she collected them, so Whitaker Scarlett could stay home and read all day. Actually, Elizabeth was the hardest worker.
