Even after entering the bedroom of the suite, Dylan didn’t put Lola down. He sat on the edge of the bed, still holding her, keeping his gaze fixed on her face.
Feeling the weight of his penetrating gaze, Lola tried to turn her head away. But Dylan wouldn’t allow it; he held her face with his hand, forcing her to look at him.
“Lola, I missed you.”
The words that flowed slowly from his lips were not lies.
It was true that he had missed her.
Lola felt her heart stop at his words.
“Did you not miss me?”
That couldn’t be true.
While listening to Dr. Anderson’s lecture, she had only thought about Dylan, but she didn’t want to admit it.
As Lola delayed her response, Dylan’s brows furrowed.
“Well… I guess the seminar was more important to you, so you couldn’t have missed me.”
“That’s not it.”
“Not it? That contradicts itself.”
“What? What do you mean by that?”
Instead of answering, Dylan stared at her intensely. His piercing gaze felt sharp, and even though she wanted to avoid it, he held her chin tightly, preventing her from turning away.
“Why did you suddenly change your mind?”
Caught off guard by the sudden question, Lola instinctively shrank back.
In moments like this, he felt less like a boyfriend and more like a sharp-witted prosecutor.
“I thought we had agreed to try on wedding dresses that day, but you went to the seminar without consulting me. You’re not the type to act recklessly. So why did you behave so irresponsibly?”
Did he have a different reason for bringing her to the hotel?
It seemed unlikely that he would let it slide, given his personality.
Indeed, her intuition was correct.
But perhaps this could be an opportunity.
Lola also wanted to have an open conversation with Dylan.
“Do you know how flustered I was that day? I was angry, too.”
That was understandable.
She could easily imagine how flustered he must have been at that time.
Lola apologized in a small voice.
“I’m sorry for not telling you in advance.”
“I want to know why you did that.”
“I was angry.”
“Angry? Why?”
Dylan was convinced that there was something he didn’t know, but he still couldn’t figure out what it was.
Though he felt impatient, Dylan calmly waited for Lola’s next words.
“I called you to ask what time you were going to the wedding shop, but when I called, Aliza answered.”
Lola watched Dylan’s expression as she spoke.
He only slightly furrowed his brows, showing no significant change in his expression.
Well, it wasn’t surprising since he was excellent at managing his expressions.
“Aliza said you were with her. She said you were drinking and couldn’t answer the phone…”
Recalling Aliza’s nonchalant voice from that evening still left Lola feeling uneasy.
“Heh.”
Dylan let out a short laugh.
After hearing Lola’s words, he finally grasped the situation.
On the day of the reunion, it seemed that while he had briefly escaped to the restroom, something had gone wrong.
It was obvious that the foolish Aliza had made a mess of things.
Lola must have misunderstood him completely.
Understanding how flustered and betrayed Lola must have felt at that moment, Dylan also felt a bit disappointed.
Was the trust between them really only this fragile?
“I can’t believe you didn’t trust me! I’ve told you countless times that I have no interest in that woman, not even a speck.”
“I’m sorry.”
Why couldn’t she think and judge more rationally at that moment?
It was true that she had been so angry that she couldn’t think straight.
Now that she had calmed down and organized her thoughts, she felt foolish for having believed Aliza’s words and falling for her tricks.
“Ha! Is my trust in you so weak that I could be swayed so easily by Aliza’s sweet tongue?”
His voice was mixed with a sigh, as if he was incredulous. This only made Lola feel even more apologetic.
“I guess I was anxious because you’re so successful, handsome, and perfect.”
‘What are you so anxious about?’
As he asked with his eyes, Lola mumbled in a small voice.
“I’m afraid of losing you to another woman… often.”
Had she been too honest?
Feeling embarrassed after saying it, Lola couldn’t look Dylan in the eye and lowered her head.
“Lola.”
“Yes.”
Dylan sighed again and pulled her in tighter.
“By that logic, you’re the one who’s doing well dating a handsome and successful man, aren’t you?”
“……”
Lola, who didn’t immediately understand his words, looked up at Dylan.
“As you said yourself, I’m handsome, successful, and perfect.”
This was undoubtedly self-praise, but it wasn’t entirely wrong, so she couldn’t laugh it off.
“But you know, the only woman I like is Lola Dax. We’ve shared more than just a few moments together, so why do you lack confidence?”
