“Do you treat Lola like a suspect, too? If you do, she’ll get scared and run away. I’m used to it by now, but Lola isn’t.”
“Gia Eve, I don’t have time to play word games with you. So just answer my questions quickly.”
“That Nia Aliza, she said that you and Lola don’t match. She said Lola would be unhappy living with you. I was so dumbfounded! Why is she like that? Is she sick?”
Gia couldn’t help but chuckle at how ridiculous it was. Dylan merely furrowed his brow slightly, showing no other change in expression.
“So, what did you say?”
After asking, Dylan answered himself, as if he didn’t expect a good response.
“Never mind. I don’t need to ask you. I can guess you didn’t say anything nice. You probably told her that if she touches either of you, you won’t let it slide.”
Sometimes, Gia couldn’t help but admire Dylan’s sharp insight and keen sense.
“You know well. I wanted to curse her out even more, but I held back because I didn’t want to lower myself.”
“Should I praise you for that?”
When Dylan spoke without a smile, it was hard to tell if he was joking or serious. Gia rolled her eyes and asked seriously.
“What are you going to do about that strange girl, Nia Aliza? She keeps coming around, so shouldn’t you have some kind of plan?”
“Just ignore her!”
As Dylan said that, he seemed ready to leave the consultation room, and Gia hurriedly grabbed his arm.
“Big Brother, what are you doing just leaving?”
“Didn’t we finish talking?”
No, that strange girl kept coming around and being annoying, yet he didn’t seem to care at all.
After all, Dylan Eve wouldn’t flinch even if a missile exploded right in front of him.
“Don’t you consider Lola’s feelings? A girl who pretends to be close to you keeps coming around. Wouldn’t that make Lola feel uncomfortable?”
“Do you think Lola is like you?”
“What do you mean?”
Dylan said to Gia, who looked very displeased.
“Lola isn’t that narrow-minded.”
“How can you not understand a woman’s feelings?”
Seeing Dylan not taking it seriously at all, Gia clicked her tongue in disbelief.
“Honestly, think about it from her perspective. If a guy who pretends to be close to her keeps hovering around you, how do you think she would feel?”
“Don’t make things up! That’s impossible and hasn’t happened.”
“That’s just what I’m saying.”
“I’m leaving.”
Dylan shrugged off Gia’s hand and opened the consultation room door, walking out.
“Big Brother, Big Brother! What are you going to do if you just leave like this?”
Frustrated, Gia stomped her feet and shouted, but Dylan walked away without even turning his head.
As he walked through the hospital corridor toward the exit, Dylan furrowed his brow, deep in thought.
The Lola he knew was a timid girl. So she must have been bothered by Nia Aliza’s visit yesterday. Yet today, when she saw him, she didn’t complain at all, not even mentioning Nia Aliza’s name.
What was her true intention?
Was she pretending not to care? Or was she just deep?
The more he thought about it, the more curious he became about her.
As he opened the exit door, he unexpectedly bumped into Lola, who was walking toward him. Lola looked a bit surprised to see Dylan, who she thought had already left the hospital.
“Dear, you haven’t left yet?”
“I was just about to go.”
“Ah, okay.”
Dylan, who was about to take a step, faced Lola again and asked.
“Lola, do you have something to say to me?”
“Something to say?”
Lola, who was softly murmuring and thinking, replied to Dylan.
“What is it that you want to hear, Dear?”
Dylan had asked, hoping she would mention something about Nia Aliza, but when he received an unexpected answer, he smirked as if he found it amusing.
“If I tell you what I want to hear, will you say it?”
This man is doing this again.
Only after hearing his words, which felt unusual, did Lola realize a bit late that she had once again fallen into an invisible trap.
“Oh no! Are you regretting what you just said?”
“Ah, no.”
“Really? Then I’ll think carefully about what I want, what I want to hear, and let you know.”
“Okay. Then, Dear, please drive safely.”
After saying goodbye to Dylan, Lola opened the entrance door and went inside. Dylan’s lips curved into a smile as he turned to walk towards the parking lot.
A week later, on a weekend afternoon.
It was the day Lola was going to visit Dylan’s house with him to greet his parents.
As Dylan parked in front of the gate and was about to turn off the engine, Lola urgently grabbed his arm. Despite repeatedly calming herself, she felt uneasy about meeting Dylan’s parents.
