“Lola, where and how was she hurt? How badly was she hurt? Was she hurt badly?”
Questions that hadn’t been filtered poured out of Gia’s mouth, who was feeling anxious.
The head nurse shuddered once again and mumbled.
“Her shoulder and back were torn, and she got eight stitches. Oh, don’t even mention it. If the intern nurse had been a little later to the ward, Dr. Lola would have probably died.”
Gia trembled as if she was having a seizure. Her face also turned pale in an instant.
“Dr. Gia, are you okay?”
Gia waved her hand at Nurse Sasha, who was worried, and asked anxiously.
“So where is Lola now?”
“She’s resting at home today because she was worried that you would worry if you found out,”
The head nurse answered instead of Nurse Sasha.
Gia was dumbfounded.
Even in this situation, she’s worried that I’ll find out.
‘That silly girl!’
Judging from the situation, her brother didn’t seem to know yet either.
Gia had originally intended to call Lola, but she changed her mind in an instant and pressed the speed dial button that had Dylan’s number saved.
However, Dylan didn’t answer the phone. No matter how many times she tried, she only heard the mechanical voice repeatedly saying that the customer was currently unavailable.
Then, Gia frowned and complained loudly.
“Why isn’t he answering the phone again?”
While interrogating a suspect in the investigation room, Dylan barely managed to grab a quick lunch, and it wasn’t until late afternoon that he could check his phone.
During his absence, Gia had called several times.
“What’s going on?”
The persistence of the calls made Dylan uneasy, suggesting something serious had happened.
Sitting at his desk, phone in hand, he was about to call Gia when a call came in.
The caller was someone completely unexpected.
“Frank?”
He wondered what brought this guy to call him.
Frank rarely initiated contact, and his occasional chats in the group chat room were so infrequent that he was practically considered a ghost.
Dylan answered the call and immediately asked,
“You’re calling me? What’s up?”
-Dylan, there’s something I haven’t told you.
Frank’s voice on the other end of the line sounded rather serious.
Dylan frowned slightly and asked,
“What is it?”
-…….
Instead of an answer, he heard a sigh, and a deep furrow slowly formed between Dylan’s eyebrows.
“Fra.. Frank.”
Dylan enunciated each syllable of his name, pressing him for an answer.
-Your girlfriend got hurt.
“What? What did you just say? Who got hurt?”
-Your girlfriend got hurt. Dr. Lola was assaulted by a patient.
“What?”
So shocked, Dylan jumped up from his seat and fired off a series of questions.
“Lola got hurt? When? How did you find out?”
-It happened the day before yesterday.
That was the day Lola was supposed to be on duty.
So she got hurt that day?
And she was assaulted by a patient.
Dylan was dumbfounded and suddenly felt like he couldn’t breathe.
“Why are you telling me this now?”
Dylan raised his voice in complaint. Frank sighed deeply and explained in a somber tone.
-I’m sorry. Your girlfriend begged me not to tell you because she knew you’d worry, so I honestly couldn’t tell you.
“Hey! You son of a bitch, there are things you can lie to me about, but this isn’t one of them.”
Dylan didn’t hesitate to use harsh language, as if it were all Frank’s fault.
Only after a while did Dylan regain his composure and calmly inquire.
“Tell me everything you know, step by step. Where and how badly was Lola hurt? Who is that patient? And why did that patient assault our Lola?”
-She’s hurt pretty badly.
Suddenly feeling suffocated and his chest tightening, Dylan loosened his tie.
-I heard she hurt her shoulder and back and had to get eight stitches. You should check the details yourself. The reason I called you is…….
Frank paused, took a breath, and continued.
-Someone got hurt, but the hospital seems to be trying to brush it under the rug. Just because they’re a patient doesn’t mean we should let those kinds of people get away with it. If they did something wrong, they need to pay the price.
There was no way they could just let it slide as if nothing happened.
Lola got hurt.
Whoever hurt her, Dylan intended to make them pay dearly.
“Hey! Hang up.”
With those words, Dylan abruptly ended the call and immediately contacted Gia.
The phone rang only twice before Gia answered, immediately complaining.
-Why don’t you ever answer your phone? I was about to have a heart attack waiting.
“I heard Lola got hurt. What happened?”
Since they worked at the same hospital, in the same department, Gia was bound to know.
That’s why he was asking for the details, but…
-I just found out today too.
Disappointed by the answer, Dylan immediately retorted in a scolding tone.
“How can you work at the same hospital and not know that Lola got hurt?”
-I’ve been away for two days. But isn’t it the same for you? You’re her husband, and you didn’t know Lola got hurt.
Dylan was already filled with regret.
Why didn’t he notice anything?
So that’s why Lola wore makeup, which she rarely did, and cried, and acted so strangely yesterday.
And she met him with her injured body.
The thought made his heart ache.
But now wasn’t the time to assign blame, so he was about to ask more about Lola when Gia’s tearful voice came through the phone.
-Dylan, Lola seems to be hurt pretty badly. Her back and shoulder were torn, and she had to get eight stitches. She went home today because she knew we’d worry if she stayed at the hospital.
As Gia repeated what Frank had said, Dylan felt a pain as if his heart was being torn to shreds.
He needed to see for himself exactly how badly Lola was hurt.
“Lola’s at home now? Are you sure?”
-Yeah. Brother. Lola wasn’t at the hospital today.
“Okay.”
After ending the call, Dylan was about to call Lola but stopped himself.
He decided it would be better to go home and check on her in person, so he immediately left the office.
