“Oh.”
Only then did Dylan nod his head.
Lola had mentioned her once, but since he had no interest at all, it hadn’t registered in his mind.
“It seems the professor doesn’t know about you and your sister-in-law yet. Maybe it’s time to let him know? Well, you’ll handle it well, but…”
“Yeah. I’ll take care of it. You don’t need to meddle, Frank Lewis.”
Dylan spoke bluntly and clicked his tongue once more at the end. Frank shrugged lightly.
“Hey! Stop with the unnecessary talk and let’s eat.”
Pretending to be indifferent as he picked up his chopsticks, Dylan was lost in thought, his head throbbing.
It was particularly concerning that the professor’s daughter was showing interest in him, as he worried it might affect Lola, the professor’s attending physician.
******
At the nurse station, Dr. Becky, who had run into Lola, seemed to have something to say and opened his mouth first.
“Lola Dax.”
“Dr. Becky.”
Lola, who wanted to know more about the patient Amaya, brightened up upon seeing Dr. Becky.
“I heard you’re in charge of the patient, Amaya?”
“Yeah. I was just about to ask you about that patient.”
In an instant, Dr. Becky’s expression became complicated. Feeling uneasy, Lola looked at him with a probing gaze and asked subtly.
“I saw in the patient chart that it’s been a year since Amaya consulted you. What was your impression?”
“I had a bad feeling. It still feels strange.”
“Really?”
“Do you know her?”
Dr. Becky asked the same question as Professor Kent. Lola shook her head in the same manner as before.
“Then that’s even stranger.”
“Can you tell me what you know about that patient? Has there been any suicide attempts or self-harm?”
Lola, feeling the strange energy she had sensed earlier intensifying, asked calmly. Dr. Becky’s brow furrowed as if recalling past memories.
“She said she often feels an impulse to die. I thought it was dangerous, so I recommended hospitalization several times, but she kept refusing. But then the patient suddenly volunteered for hospitalization.”
While speaking, Dr. Becky tilted his head several times.
“Was there any trouble between you and the patient Amaya?”
When Lola asked about the therapeutic relationship, Dr. Becky shook his head.
If the therapeutic relationship was solid and trust was established between the patient and the doctor, there would be no need to change the attending physician.
Lola tilted her head in confusion.
“Why do both of you look like that?”
Just as Gia, who had just returned from the emergency room, passed by the station and saw the two with serious expressions, she asked.
Worried that Gia might be concerned, Lola quickly smiled, trying to erase the shadow on her face.
“It’s nothing.”
“The patient Lola Dax is in charge of seems a bit suspicious.”
However, Dr. Becky spoke honestly.
As Lola had feared, Gia immediately asked with concern.
“What’s suspicious about her?”
But before she could hear the answer, she had to suppress her curiosity at the sound of footsteps approaching.
“Dr. Becky.”
Gia grabbed Dr. Becky’s arm and gestured for him to leave.
“Okay?”
At first, Dr. Becky was puzzled, but after turning his head, he nodded.
He had felt a cold energy, and now he thought he understood why as he walked alongside Gia.
“That guy is your brother, right?”
Behind Dr. Becky, Dylan’s sharp gaze followed.
‘It’s that guy again!’
Any man who approached Lola seemed to irritate him.
And that was a big problem.
After parting ways with Frank following lunch, Dylan suddenly changed direction and rushed to the hospital.
It seemed that seeing Lola’s face would ease his worries.
As soon as he arrived at the hospital, he practically ran to the 8th floor where the psychiatric department was located, and there was Lola right in front of the station.
That part was great.
He didn’t have to search for where Lola was, nor did he have to make a phone call.
However, seeing a man chatting amicably with Lola made Dylan feel inexplicably uncomfortable.
Although Gia was also there, to Dylan, the man seemed particularly close to Lola.
He found it absurd that he was feeling this way, yet he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of jealousy.
Lola was still blissfully unaware of his presence, smiling brightly.
‘Didn’t I tell her not to smile at other guys like that!’
Just then, Gia pulled the man away by the arm, giving Dylan a sigh of relief; otherwise, he might have gone over and gouged the man’s eyes out.
‘What’s wrong with me?’
While he felt a chill at his own thoughts, that was honestly how Dylan felt at that moment.
“What are you doing here at this hour, Dylan?”
Of course, Lola, who didn’t know the full story, found Dylan’s bubbling emotions puzzling.
