Lunchtime, at a high-end traditional UK restaurant.
Dylan, who had arrived first and entered the reserved room, was sitting and waiting for Frank.
After talking to Gia yesterday, Dylan felt uneasy, as if something was bothering him.
And just as Gia had said, Lola rarely talked about anything unless it was absolutely necessary, so Dylan wanted to confirm it himself.
“You’re busy, and yet you’re asking me to have lunch together.”
Frank, who entered the room through the sliding door, looked at Dylan, who was already seated, and said with a hint of surprise.
Seeing Dylan, who was usually busy, reach out first to suggest lunch, it seemed something was amiss.
There was a vague suspicion, but Frank didn’t hastily bring it up.
“Order whatever you want.”
Dylan, still not bringing up any topic, handed the menu to Frank, who was sitting across from him.
“I’ll order something expensive.”
“Oh!”
At Dylan’s words, Frank shrugged lightly and began to quickly scan the menu.
After a while, when the waiter left the room after taking their order, Dylan sharply asked.
“Frank Lewis. Why did you go to see Lola?”
Dylan’s gaze was icy as he looked at Frank. Yet, Frank remained unfazed, merely chuckling.
“Looks like Gia spilled the beans.”
“There’s no secret in that hospital. You’ll find out everything eventually. So stop with the nonsense and answer my question.”
Despite the menacing aura from Dylan, Frank calmly responded with a relaxed expression.
“Why? Are you worried I might be interested in your woman?”
“I know you’re not that kind of scummy guy.”
“Ah! Should I thank you for believing me? Or should I warn you not to trust people so easily?”
“You don’t need to put on that bravado in front of me.”
Seeing Dylan immediately retort, Frank shook his head as if he couldn’t help it. After taking a sip of water, he suddenly asked.
“Dylan. Don’t you ever feel frustrated as a prosecutor?”
“I think I was the one who asked the question first.”
Not answering and instead throwing out random comments, Dylan remained displeased, his expression still stern.
Frank slightly raised one shoulder.
“There’s no need to flaunt being a prosecutor, even in a setting like this.”
Perhaps feeling thirsty or just frustrated, Frank took another sip of water.
“I get really angry when a suspect I’m investigating makes an extreme choice. Then the investigation gets interrupted, and it’s a waste of time. Some scumbags don’t even get proper legal punishment just because they died. That’s so unfair to the victims.”
Hearing the sense of despair in Frank’s words, Dylan finally softened his expression a bit.
“I feel the same way.”
The two men, who occasionally found common ground, bumped fists.
“Not long ago, a suspect was being investigated for violating the Electronic Financial Transactions Act. But he attempted suicide. He’s still in a coma. What’s more ridiculous is that all the prosecutors did their jobs, and there’s nothing wrong. So why isn’t he waking up? It’s not like he’s faking it!”
Frank’s voice became quite agitated. Dylan quietly asked to confirm.
“So, you went to see Lola?”
Dylan’s mind was quick, and he assessed the situation rapidly. Even though Frank hadn’t gone into detail, Dylan had already grasped the general situation.
Frank was impressed by Dylan’s keen intuition and readily admitted.
“Yeah. I was feeling frustrated, and since my sister-in-law is a psychiatrist, I thought she might have some solutions.”
“Hey! Do you think a psychiatrist is some kind of miracle worker?”
Dylan clicked his tongue in annoyance. Frank smiled bitterly.
“I just had a serious talk with my sister-in-law. She can be quite stubborn. She said that for a patient to recover, it depends on the patient’s will. I’m worried I might have annoyed her this time by being so persistent.”
Hearing Frank’s words, Dylan thought to himself that it was a relief, while also feeling proud of Lola.
On the surface, Lola seemed gentle and fragile, as if she could easily be swayed by others, but it didn’t seem to be the case.
At that moment, a waiter entered the room and set the food on the table. After the food was set and the waiter left, Frank casually threw out a comment.
“Dylan, you should be careful.”
“What are you talking about all of a sudden? Speak clearly.”
As Dylan frowned, displeased, Frank smirked slightly.
“It seems like there are quite a few women showing interest in you.”
Since Dylan had no interest in any woman other than Lola, his expression naturally soured.
“Nina seems to be interested in you.”
“Nina? Who’s that?”
Seeing Dylan ask back, Frank shook his head in disbelief.
“Seriously pathetic.”
“I just don’t care much about other people.”
“She’s Professor Xavier’s daughter.”
