Who are you to meddle in my affairs?
“I delivered the gift you gave me to that guy.”
Only then did Nina lift her head and stare at Lola. After blinking a couple of times, she stammered her question.
“D-did that guy… say anything?”
“He seemed grateful.”
Lola felt a pang of guilt as she told a lie she couldn’t even pull off well, but she tried not to show it.
For now, comforting Nina was the priority.
“What good does that do? He has a partner.”
Nina pouted her lips.
“You liked him without knowing anything, just purely.”
“Do you think that guy thinks I’m strange?”
Nina seemed quite simple-minded for her age.
Just a moment ago, she was crying over the fact that a man had a partner, and now she was worrying again.
Lola found Nina both cute and funny, yet pitiful, and her feelings were complicated and awkward.
She worried that when Nina eventually learned the truth, she might feel betrayed by her.
“Why do you think that?”
“……”
Nina didn’t speak, but Lola could read her thoughts.
“Actually, you prepared the gift with pure intentions too, right?”
“I’ve never liked anyone before.”
So why, out of all the people, did she have to like my husband?
Lola felt a bit stifled but tried hard not to show it.
“Why do you like that man?”
Nina murmured in a dreamy voice.
“He seemed the strongest. And he’s handsome.”
Of course!
She was definitely a simple girl.
Lola felt a sigh coming on.
Should I just tell her that the man she likes is my husband and be completely honest?
That thought crossed her mind for a moment, but in the end, Lola said something different.
“Nina, I don’t think that man is a good man at all. He doesn’t suit you. From what I hear, he has a really cold and rude personality.”
Dylan, I’m sorry.
I had no choice but to speak ill of you.
I felt endlessly sorry for Dylan Eve, but if I didn’t disparage him, it seemed unlikely that Nina would easily give up her feelings for him.
But.
“Still, I like him. I prefer a guy who’s a bit rude and cold over a nice guy.”
‘Ah, I’m really going crazy.’
This girl is completely smitten with Dylan Eve.
‘Nina, still, that man is not for you.’
Lola barely held back the urge to shout.
“I wonder who that woman is. She must be really lucky.”
There was bitterness in her murmured voice.
Lola felt a mix of emotions.
This was all because Dylan was too outstanding and exceptionally handsome.
So I have to suffer.
*****
After moving in with Lola, Dylan came home every night, no matter how late it was.
He was worried about her being alone in the big house, and after living together for a while, it felt empty when she wasn’t beside him at night.
As he opened the front door and entered the living room, Lola was sleeping on the sofa, looking tired. Her long, smooth legs were exposed, and her face, in a defenseless state, looked somewhat worn out. Worried that she might be unwell, Dylan reached out to touch her forehead. Fortunately, she didn’t have a fever.
Her phone, placed on the table, rang several times, but Lola remained asleep.
Dylan answered the call. He was originally going to reject it, but upon seeing the name of the caller on the screen, he changed his mind.
Then, in a quiet but cold voice, he revealed his presence without hesitation.
“Hello.”
The voice on the other end, not Lola’s but a man’s, seemed quite surprised and took a moment before speaking.
– Is this not the phone number of Dr. Lola Dax?
For some reason, just hearing Kent Hollis’s name irritated Dylan. Moreover, he thought it was crossing the line for Kent to call Lola at this hour, and he couldn’t hold back his annoyance.
Dylan’s lips twisted coldly in displeasure.
“What business do you have with my wife at this hour?”
Although they hadn’t held the wedding ceremony yet, they had registered their marriage, so Dylan proudly referred to her as his wife.
There was a long silence on the other end. After a while, a cautious voice came through.
– Is it possible to speak with Dr. Lola Dax right now?
“That’s difficult. She’s sleeping.”
– I’m sorry. I apologize for calling so late.
As soon as Kent finished speaking, Dylan hung up the phone first.
He felt inexplicably irritated.
In an uncharacteristic display of emotion, he roughly swept his hair back when a text notification chimed.
This time, the sender was “Pretty Girl.”
That was fine up to that point…
– Lola, what did you talk about with that guy Frank earlier? What did he say? Why was he looking for you? Was there something wrong?
