Just like that, she was gone. What else could Luke have expected? After Robyn stormed into her building, assaulting both the doorman and a security guard before likely forcing her way into the apartment, chaos was inevitable.
Luke was livid. His mate was already under immense stress—she didn’t need another enraged, alpha-blooded wolf barging in, breaking down her door, and causing a scene. To make matters worse, his pups were in that apartment. Robyn’s reckless behavior had probably terrified them too.
The phone call from his warriors, stationed to monitor her building, had left Luke stunned. They’d informed him that Robyn had shown up unannounced, unleashing his temper on the staff. Luke had expected better judgment from his brother, but clearly, Robyn had lost all sense of reason.
Without wasting time, Luke and his team piled into the rental car that Benzy and Macky had been using. Macky was at the wheel as they sped toward her apartment. Luke had called Robyn directly, knowing his brother wouldn’t dare ignore him. He wanted to make it clear that he was fully aware of where Robyn was and what he was doing.
Robyn had to know Luke was closing in. Had he completely lost his mind, going after the future Luna of their pack in such a reckless manner? If Robyn dared to physically harm her, Luke wouldn’t hesitate to banish him—no matter how much their parents protested. Frankly, banishment was a mercy compared to what Luke was capable of if it came to that.
Luke had roared an Alpha order down the phone, but without Maddis present to enforce it, he wasn’t sure how effective it would be on another Alpha. It all depended on how much fear or respect Robyn still held for him.
Meanwhile, Benzy was frantically trying to reach her on the phone, but she wasn’t answering—a reaction Luke had anticipated. Visiting her apartment was risky, given the court orders that barred him from approaching her. Yet, those legal constraints meant nothing compared to the safety of his mate and children. Besides, this could be the moment—the day she realized who he truly was to her. That thought alone thrilled him.
Luke longed to be with her, to step inside her apartment and breathe her in, to hold her and kiss her. He wanted to meet his children, embrace them, and finally start the family life he’d been dreaming of. But Robyn had better not ruined that chance with his thoughtless actions.
His men reported that Robyn had left the building in a hurry. Luke hoped it was in response to his Alpha order and not because Robyn had done something foolish like hurt her. At least she wasn’t with him, so Robyn hadn’t taken her.
Luke’s priority was ensuring she was unharmed. They were halfway to her apartment when word came that she’d left the building with the children in her car, driving off at speed. Unfortunately, none of his warriors had a vehicle to follow her, as the team switching shifts had taken the car back to the hotel. All they could provide was a general direction, leaving Luke guessing where she might have gone.
He ordered surveillance on Chris Johnson’s and Ben Billy’s places, suspecting she might seek refuge with one of them. His money was on Ben Billy—after last night’s events, she wouldn’t risk involving Chris again, especially after Maddis’s outburst, which she must have overheard during their heated phone call.
What she thought of the situation was anyone’s guess. Luke couldn’t shake the thought that she might inform Ben of his presence in the city, leading to his arrest for breaching the court order. It was a gamble he was willing to take—her safety came first.
Luke’s men had called paramedics for the two injured men in the lobby. Both were unconscious but breathing, which was at least some relief amidst the chaos.
The moment she left with the children—destination unknown—Luke changed course. Instead of heading to her apartment, he directed his team toward his parents’ current residence. He was certain Robyn had run there, seeking protection from him. Little did his brother know, no amount of sanctuary would shield him from Luke’s fury. Robyn was about to face the beating of a lifetime, wolf or no wolf.
The worst part? Luke had no idea where his mate or their children were. Benzy was still trying to reach her, leaving message after message, but she wasn’t responding. She had likely turned off her phone to avoid the endless calls.
After last night’s tense conversation with Benzy, Luke suspected Bella believed he only wanted the pups. She probably thought he hated her, and that his anger stemmed from discovering she had hidden the children from him. But that wasn’t true. He didn’t blame her for keeping them away—how could he? He’d been the one who pushed her out of his life, unaware of the children’s existence at the time.
He wondered if she thought it was him pounding on her door earlier that morning. Robyn’s reckless actions could have easily made her believe Luke was the one who had come barging in, causing her to flee. Now, because of Robyn’s idiocy, Dani would be lucky if her mate bond with him survived. Luke had no intention of prioritizing Robyn’s mate bond over his own mate and pups. The future Luna always came first.
Dani wasn’t in any immediate danger. Unlike Bella and the children, who lived every day under constant threat from rival packs eager to steal them away, Dani had time. She and Robyn had only known each other for two short weeks, and at just 18 years old, she had her whole life ahead of her to figure things out. Luke’s situation was far more urgent.
Robyn, of all people, should have understood this. He’d been present during the family crisis at the restaurant, when Tyler fought their father and devastated their mother. He had witnessed the pain and chaos firsthand. Yet, despite that, Robyn chose to attack Luke’s mate—a decision Luke would not tolerate.
